Glitch Story Our cat disappeared in front of us.

Last Friday, our neighbor across the street (Sam) called my boyfriend and me over to her house. She said our cat, Athena, was on their truck, hissed at her (which is so unlike her, because she’s the sweetest cat ever, and loves everyone), then went into their engine compartment. We didn’t want her to think that was a good hiding spot, so my boyfriend, Luke and the other neighbor, Wes, went under and tried to scare Athena out. They chased her up and my boyfriend said she came out the top, the problem was that Sam and I were at the top waiting for her to come out, and she never came out. She literally disappeared in front of us. Luke came out from under the truck and started running up and down the street thinking she snuck by us, but she didn’t. He immediately came back and looked in the engine compartment again. No Athena. It’s been 5 days and still no Athena.

While living in a rural area, I had a bunch of outside cats. One day, I found one of them dead in front of my house. Poor kitty! I buried her, mourned her, and then went on with life. About a week later, she showed up at my front door just as alive as can be! She had unusual markings, so I don't think the cat I buried was a different cat. It totally freaked me out! 😂 I went to her gravesite and it was undisturbed. I didn't go as far as exhuming the cat I buried though.

When I was a kid, we had a cat. One day, she was about 8 years old, we found her dead near our house. There was no doubt it was our cat. We buried her, mourned her. Then, she shows up a couple of days later, alive and healthy. She lived with us for 9 more years. It was the strangest thing that happened to me

I would have been shoveling the dirt and confirming.

I was too afraid of what I might or might not find. 😬

She always stays close to home, and we have been walking the neighborhood multiple times a day calling for her. She’s a loud meower, and we’ve heard nothing. We’ve also talked to all of the neighbors, so they’d be on their lookout.

Leave her litter out right at the front door or whatever door she normally would come to when she used to return home from being outside.

Go out late at night to call for her. When all the world's still, that's when she will try to come back home. Update us please!!

Yes please! Because I'm praying (in a non religious manner as I'm not affiliated with any religion) she is at least with her family in another universe one that didn't have her already I don't want the poor baby scared and hurt wherever she is 😭

She has been found! We got a call from our Humane Society, and a text from her microchip saying she’d been dropped off with them. 10 days later!!! It’s crazy that 10 days seems to be a common theme when it comes to cats being gone. Supposedly she showed up on a ladies doorstep, a couple of neighborhoods over, yesterday morning. She is healthy and happy to be home. Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes!

I hope you can find her! She may be afraid and hiding? Although if she's normally outside, that wouldn't make sense. Could she be in heat and out getting pregnant?

She’s an indoor/outdoor cat, and was spayed when since she was 7 months old. I’ve had her for 6 years. She literally vanished right in front of us.

😮 Wow, that's crazy. I hope she returns very soon!!

Sounds creepy for me because I had a cat named Athena who disappeared one night and never came back. I know it sounds woo woo but I’d say some prayers about it. I’m sorry about Athena ❤️

I have had the thought over the last few days, that maybe it was time to help her next family. She is the best kitty ever and helped me through the worst of times. Now my life is amazing. Maybe it was just time for her to move on. I sure miss her though!

I just want to let you know, in case you didn't already, that cats can teleport. I've never had one not come back though.

Yes cats can absolutely teleport. I totally forgot that. I’ve read some incredible stories. She probably teleported somewhere. She should go back at some point.

You can always try showing her picture to stray cats in the area and ask them to tell her to come home. Lots of people have reported success with doing this.

So, she crawled into your neighbors engine bay and was never seen again? And she hissed at your neighbor when she doesn't do that to anyone? This doesn't sound like a 'glitch'. This sounds like, either, Athena letting you know what happened to her, or she was processing her death, possibly both.

It's normal to see someone's spirit shortly after death. Unfortunately, many felines have met their end by seeking refuge in an engine bay. They don't have time to react if they're near a belt or fan. One of my cats had kittens, when I was a kid, and they sought refuge in my mom's boyfriend's Cutlass. He went to leave, started his car, and we had one less kitten.

My childhood cat was run over by a Neigbor because she was in his engine, jumped down when he started the car and he accidentally ran her over. My Dad watched the whole thing happen. He was devastated.

Is there anyway you’d know if she came back while you were inside? Sadly, we lost our cat many years back, she came home apparently because a neighbor saw her at our door, but there was no way we could hear her. I wish our neighbor would have told us. We never saw her again and don’t know what exactly happened to her. We pray that she was taken in by some loving people. She’d be gone by now, but I pray you don’t have the same experience with your kitty. Our other cat was missing for 4 days and we put up posters and someone called and we got him back so don’t give up and keep at it.

She always comes to the front or back door when she’s ready to come in, and when she’s inside she waits by the door to go out. She’s always acted like a dog in that way. I’m praying the same thing, that if she wasn’t raptured (my boyfriend thinks she was, because she’s the sweetest thing ever), or gone through a portal, than she’s with a loving person. If she’s with another person, I have no doubt that as soon as she has the opportunity to escape, then she’ll be home.

I pray she does indeed come home.

Tell the local feral cats to help you find her. They will.

I’m wondering if she’s still somewhere inside that car ☹️

Cat probably had a health issue and went out somewhere to die. Sorry to say, but I don't think kitty is still alive. Would explain the weird phenomenon of it disappearing right in front of you..

3

u/Woodtee360 Sep 17 '26

Wow, Negative Nancy, that wouldn’t explain that at all. She’s extremely healthy, and not sure how that would explain her disappearing in front of our eyes.

It reminds me of Stephen Edwin King’s novel <pet sematary>
