Glitch Story Someone that I didn’t knew called me by my name
I’ve been thinking about this thing that happened to me a couple months ago, and was wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this, because I honestly don’t know what to think about it.
For some context, I was staying in my sister’s house pet siting her two cats while she and her husband were on their honeymoon. One night I was craving something sweet and recall that there was pastry shop that I had seen the other day while walking my dog, it was about ten minutes away, so I went, it was getting dark so I wanted to hurry (we live on a big city so it’s not ideal for a lonely girl to be out late), anyways I get there and it was pretty empty, it’s a big place, and kinda fancy, but there was only a couple sitting outside.
All of the workers (about 6) were sitting on a table and some were on their computers, others on their phones, i’m guessing because there was not a lot of people, so I get in and say hi, only a couple respond, and one stands up and gets behind the counter to take my order, while he does he says “Good night Ana” (which is my name) I was looking at the pastries to pick one, but when he said that I got really distracted, and confused, because mind you I have NEVER seen this guy before, ever in my life, I’m 100% sure about that, I smiled at him, and got a hard time to concentrate back into picking a pastry, I couldn’t stop thinking ‘Did he just called me by my name?’ Do I know this guy?’ ‘Where from?’ ‘I have never seen him before, right?’ there were a lot of thoughts running through my mind very quickly. I also very quickly decided that I probably miss heard him, I thought about asking him if we knew each other, but I had already decided in my mind I heard him wrong, so if I asked and he didn’t even say my name, it would have been weird. So I pick a pastry, and I pay, but as i’m about to leave, and turn my back to him and head to the door he says ‘Goodbye Ana’.
TWICE he said it TWICE, if he had just only said it once, I wouldn’t be writing this, I would be convinced I miss heard, but he didn’t, he said it TWICE. By this point I got out of there very quickly, I was scared, a part of me was convinced I had my name written somewhere in my clothes or i don’t fucking know in my forehead I guess, and the other part of me felt like I was on the Truman show, for real, because what the fuck? I’ve never been this place before, I don’t even live around the area, the place just open some months ago and I know that I don’t know this guy.
I get to my sisters house and look in the mirror for some clues, I did not had my name written anywhere, of course I wouldn’t have forgotten if I did, but I thought it was a possibility. I call my mom freaked out, and she calms me down, I also tell a couple of friends, and the next day I call my sister to tell her, we come up with a couple of theories, I could look alike someone that’s a regular there, or he could have confused me with someone else he knows, despite it would have been crazy we have the same name, or I don’t know maybe he stalks me or something.
When my sister and her husband came back from Cancun, we go together to the pastry shop again, to see if the guy is there, maybe he calls me by my name again, and this time I ask him, but he is not there, so we leave, with questions still to this day. I haven’t got back since then.
Does anyone have any theories? Do I have a brain tumor that causes me to hallucinate? Is there any kind of condition that makes you feel like you been called your name but you just hadn’t? Or is this just a glitch in the matrix?

I have been on other side of this. On two occasions I knew the name of people before they spoke of it. Both were very uncommon name. I just knew it!

Same, I saw a lady getting on a plane when I was already seated. I heard half in my ear and half in my mind “her name is X”. I was confused and later called her by her name as she asked for help with her luggage, she said wow how did you know my name? I said I don’t know. I thought there may be some significant reason for it all but nothing happened and I never saw her again.
It’s happened a few times but never really bore any true significance that I could tell.

But like how? You just got a 6th sense

Honestly that's how it felt like in those moments. Two times in my life I also has premonitions. I saw something like the thought crosse my mind, then that thing happened. So when it happened I was mind blown but I didn't tell anyone when I had that vision so I didn't tell anyone after that too.
I feel very much in tune with my own intuitions. So I have learned to not ignore them anymore as they are always helping. Even if thing as small as take the different route to daily commute.
I think for the theory that time doesn't exist. Everything is here right now we just sometimes get glimpse of where and there and that's how we already know stuff. With some training and meditation may be most people can do that.

This is wild because i've had so many weird experiences of knowing things i technically shouldn't know, and the "all time is now" idea is exactly the way i rationalize that (and a lot of other things) to myself.

Was your airdrop on? Or hotspot? If he was on his phone, he could have been looking at one of those connections and you popped in.
Is your phone named “Ana’s phone” or something like that?

Hey this is a good theory, I had thought about this but a less logical version. I thought it really seemed as if they had a system that recognized people’s identities through their phones, so they can properly greet them. And I do have my phone named Ana’s iPhone, interesting, but still creepy anyway.

So you probably walked in, his phone might have prompted him. “connect to Anna’s phone hotspot?” Or something like that.
My phone does tell me when a new network is available.

Old classmate? Old coffee worker or friend of a friend who recognized you but you didnt them? A customer from wherever you work that you wouldnt remember but they remember you. All sorts of possibilities. Source-happens to me a lot and a lot more than youd think

I don’t think so really. I’m 23, he was definitely in his 40’s, I don’t know many 40 year old guys, and if I do I remember.

This is definitely creepy but probably not of the metaphysical sort. Maybe post this on r/strange to get more feedback? But regardless, dude is a creep.

Maybe he calls everyone "Ana".

Puede ser también.En una rotisería donde yo compraba antes, había un empleado que a todas les decía María.

This actually happens to me all the time. Just last week I was at the hospital for an infusion and a dude in the waiting room knew me. It was my first time there, and to my recollection, he was a complete stranger.
However, in my case, I don’t think it’s a glitch. I had to have brain surgery a few years ago and my memory isn’t the most reliable thing. So I chalk it up to that. But I love to speculate and play with the idea that there’s an alternate “me” he’s buddies with.

I had a similar experience happen to me about 10 years ago that still baffles me to this day! A complete stranger in a parking lot saw me getting out of my car, he yells to me “Hey [my name]! That’s a badass fucking car!” I laughed and said thank you and then he said “alright see ya later!” I have never once seen this man, and he had a very distinct look, he wasn’t someone who looked average or like anybody else I knew in the slightest. He was also super tall. I would remember if I had met him, but I have absolutely no idea who he was, and we parted ways immediately after the interaction so I have no clue who he was. So strange.

Odd, but not impossible. My two theories are that he has either been loosely and carefully stalking you, maybe learned your name in passing conversation and is trying to.. condition you to his presence now by using your name as some sort of comforting mechanism. Or.. like with what happened to me, it could be someone you met when you were like six years old, and only in a fleeting situation at that, like at church around your parents, and he just happens to be insanely good with faces and can recognize you even after all this time, name and all. Had someone address me by my name before at the drive-thru in Chick-fil-A, one of the employees. Had no idea who they were. They asked if I remembered them from Sunday School. I have no recollection of them whatsoever, but they apparently could spot me from a random stranger with confidence enough to use my name, which they somehow remembered, all 25 years removed from ever seeing them last.

Yes, these are good theories, thank you. This whole situation makes me feel creeped out, but at least I know I’m not crazy.

The first guy said “good night Ana” before he took your order..?

Yes, as a form of greeting, english is not my first language ‘Good evening Ana’ would be a better translation.

Most likely thing is he does know you, and you simply forgot. Maybe he had a beard and shaved it recently. Or you don’t recognize him in the clothes he’s wearing. I feel like this is a more plausible explanation.

I know it’s hard to wrap your head around it, but i don’t know the guy, have never seen him before in my life, neither he is a friend of anyone I know. That’s why this is so weird and creepy.

Perhaps he’s like a brother of a friend of yours and he just knows you because he’s seen you once with her and asked who she was talking to. Thus, you haven’t officially met him but he knows your name.

For what it's worth, it reminds me of a story vaguely similar, but even more staggering!

Not sure if this is related but Ive been a barista, and if you’ve told other employees or even other customers (like a friend or family member who may be more of a regular than you) your name ever (even once), they could’ve told that employee that your name is Ana. Idk tho

Classic technique, the theory I can come up because I study these things, people say some contradictory stuff to get you to correct it and they get true information in exchange. So in your case, he might have wanted to know your name... So he picked a random name "ana" and hit with it. The odds are really low, but it hit bullseye. From your reaction he knew that it is ACTUALLY your name, so when you asked him, he denied to play with you. Then obviously he said it again as a prank or a tease.
Maybe he wanted to hit on you or something i don't really know but yea... This is a technique to start off a conversation.
