Discussion Old Head Pit Etiquette Grumbles at Fort Worth
After about 18 years of being a fan I finally made it to my first Gorillaz show last night in Fort Worth. Been to plenty of other shows in my lifetime, but I felt like it was a good opportunity to bring my cousin to his first big arena show, as well as go to my first non-Nine Inch Nails show since 2024.
Amazing show! Well worth the wait and my cousin had a great time. I also got humbled because I realized there's still a few Gorillaz songs I don't know.
Like most shows I attend, I got general admission tickets. Not having a lot of space comes with getting a GA ticket, so does not feeling your legs well after the show. Hurts a bit more nowadays, but I wouldn't trade this experience or any of my other pit experiences for a seat that I'd probably have to stand at anyway.
That said, I got a bit frustrated last night.
Context: 2nd row behind barricade, two kids in front of me whom at the very least were at their first Gorillaz show (if not first concert entirely).
So I was aware that Damon comes down and interacts with the crowd. Being 2nd row and not in costume, I was just gonna be happy to tell people I was like a foot away. Obviously, for the two very young fans in front of me on the barricade, that's a life long memory right there if he interacted with them (and he did).
Where the problem comes in is that people who clearly had no chance of getting to the barricade kept trying to push me up front when I had no space whatsoever, effectively pinning the people in front of me to the barricade.
The first time it's whatever due to the initial excitement, but the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th times got really frustrating to the point I had to physically hold people back and tell the people behind me that they were shoving me into two young kids who were 1/3rd of my size (and whom were probably a bit stressed out with how the crowd was moving).
On top of this, it's not hard to give up your barricade spot for 3 seconds for a kid to just say hi to Damon. Youll have it for the other hour and 39 minutes of the show!
TL;DR: Old head Gorillaz fan who thinks it's not appropriate to push people into kids so you can get a slightly better picture of Damon.
