Actually I am clueless on what even I am doing and just want some feedback on what I doing wrong. I feel like I am doing terrible in solos cause I cannot come up with original melodies and occasional mistakes as well. Plus I keep using the Same pentatonic box and same pattern of melodies which I wanna change but I don't know where to even start

Song is Rojiura Gypsy by Jakura (RIP jasmine)

Tab: https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/jakura-tab-s6745632 (rythim guitar, I can’t play the lead), I think is worth noting that this the only non ai tab of this band/ song in all the internet.

Feedback Request Thumb Placement Technique

On large stretches I often place my thumb behind the fretboard to the left of my fingers. Depending on how much I have to bring my wrist out the thumb even can come up to near the side of the fretboard adjacent the high E. Should I work on breaking this habit or am I doing okay? Thanks!

Photos are 2 sets of 2 showing front and back.

Other connecting chords and pentatonic riffs (g minor → c major example)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

in this example i’m looping g minor and c major and playing short phrases with one shape of the g minor pentatonic scale. the main thing to listen for is where each phrase ends, especially when the chord changes.

when the c chord comes around, i’m landing on a c note and letting it ring for a bit. it’s already in the pentatonic shape, so there’s no need to switch scales to follow that change. picking a landing note gives the phrase somewhere to go and helps it connect with the chord underneath.

try it with a simple two-chord loop and just a few notes from a shape you already know. leave some space between phrases so you can hear the chords, then practice ending on the root of whichever chord is playing. keep the phrases short at first and pay attention to how the same note sounds over each chord.

Question Any right handed players out there learn from a lefty?

I am a lifelong lefty player. I currently know a right handed beginner who could use some lessons, but I am wondering if it will be tricky for a right handed player to learn from a left handed player.

Basically I am like a mirror image and I’m not sure if that makes things more or less difficult. I know in some fields like Yoga teachers will present things in mirrored mode.

Anyone out there ever have a left handed teacher or experience with learning in mirror mode?

Question Feeling stuck in my learning

Been getting back into guitar for a little over a year now (played a bit many years ago and just got back into it) and I just feel lost on what to focus on next to get into the intermediate level.

I’ve just been learning riffs and full songs that interest me. While I still enjoy doing that, I sometimes feel like I’m just memorizing songs instead of learning to be a musician if that makes sense.

I like the idea of being able to just take the key of a song and just go off and improvise, making up my own stuff even just as extensions of a song I already know.

I’ve learned some pentatonic shapes and basic theory but I still have trouble making up anything remotely musical when I try to jam to backing tracks.

Any advice would be really appreciated

Question Guitarists in music programmes

So there are these music programmes on TV right. How do the members of the band know immediately what to play and figure stuff out as they go along immediately? Moreover when im asked to just play guitar and give backing to someone singing, i cant do it currently without looking up chords. I'd like to be able to figure out the chords of the song by just recalling the song or from listening to the singer singing

Question What did it took for you to feel like you're actually playing the instrument?

I'm kinda getting there but not yet.
Understanding the concept of interval sounds.
Recognizing half steps from whole.
Locating the notes(roots in caged)

How chords are built.
But when i still look at it wholly, i just drown from too much information.

i honestly still dont feel like learning songs.
It feels like im doing party tricks and acrobatics, which i know is important as well.

I'm just super glad i picked up a single coil strat for my year 2.
Allowed me to hear the chord tones much better and enjoy clean playing.

Hopefully im going at the right direction instinctively.
Ive been trying to recreate vocal melodies and watching out for the chord progression.

Feedback Request I can’t seem to do the full bend for the outro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m learning the lead guitar for just by Radiohead, but when I get to the outro, I can’t seem to bend it high enough to hit the c note. I found an alternative without the bend, but I really want to get it. I’ve been playing for about a year, and I’m fine with bends in the lighter strings, but I can’t seem to get it right

Lesson Need help on harmonizing scale in 3th and 6th

Hello everyone,

I recently came across this video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FZopU0dIH5M

I understand that he is playing a D major scale using sixths and thirds, but what I don't quite understand is why he places the "leading notes" behind. Until now, whenever I harmonized a scale like this, I always assumed that the first note/string I play acts as the leading note, followed by its third or sixth.

English isn't my first language, so it’s a bit tricky to explain, but to give a concrete example:

In a G scale if I play third's like XX54XX and then XX75XX, does that mean I am playing the root (and the third) and then the second (and the fourth)?Or should i see ( or more heard) it as a third and then a fourth (because actually for me it was root going to a second)

Thank's a lot by advance and sorry for my crappy explainantion.

Question "Lifelong" beginner friendly exercise?

Im looking into picking up guitar but I struggle with staying consistent and i think having an exercise I can do everyday would be helpful, and ideally I would be able to practice it as a beginner through my guitar journey and still get some benefit from it. Are there any exercises you guys have been doing from the beginning that always seem to have room for improvement? Thanks!

Question How do I learn how to play chords, even though I am seemingly physically incapable of doing so?

I’m new to guitar, and im taking a class in my school. I recently had a bit of an emotional outburst from frustration from trying to play a C chord, and I’ve decided to seek extra help as a result. Every time I try and play a chord with more than 3 fingers, I end up muting half the strings because I either fat finger it, don’t press down hard enough, or both. How can I fix this? Because my instructor just said “you’ll grow calluses eventually and it won’t hurt as bad” and that’s it

Question Why my acoustic guitar doesn't sound Loud enough ?

Hey everyone, I recently performed in a music competition with my acoustic guitar I played fingerstyle composition but the sound of my acoustic guitar was kinda low when I was playing percussions on my guitar it was more louder but the strings weren't ringing loud enough. Few months ago I played music with a someone having same acoustic guitar and same model but his guitar was sounding more louder and was resonating more with or without the pick. he said he hasn't changed the strings of his guitar since he bought it 7-8 months ago. What do you think ?

Lesson The ONE Arpeggio EVERY Jazz Guitarist Needs To Know

Thumbnail

Jazz musicians don’t always think in scales. Wes Montgomery called what he played 'a sound'. This arpeggio is all over famous jazz solos, and it doesn’t come from a scale, but it does give your playing that real jazz tension and energy, and it is surprisingly easy to play and move around.

Hope you like it!

Question What are some good blues songs by Freddie King, Gary Moore, or Albert King for a beginner/intermediate guitarist?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for some blues songs by Freddie King, Gary Moore, or Albert King that would be suitable for a beginner to intermediate guitarist.

I'm hoping to find songs that aren't too difficult to learn but are still fun to play and help me improve my blues phrasing, bends, vibrato, and soloing.

Which songs would you recommend, and why? I'd love to hear your suggestions, especially songs that are good for building blues guitar skills without being overwhelmingly difficult.

Thanks!

Question First day playing and got a blister, should I stop?

Post image

Had to use my front cam cause my back is broken. But I just started playing my dad’s old acoustic guitar yesterday for maybe 4 hours and when I looked, I got this blister on my finger. Is it safe to keep playing or should I wait to let it heal?

Complete novice! Was playing the cure by mareux from a youtube tutorial.

Question How do I stop muting?

I am just beginning to play acoustic guitar, I’ve been interested for a while. I’m playing “Remember Me” from the “Coco” movie. Constantly on the first few notes, I’ve been muting the second string. Any help?
