Had to change track once on Route Tampa in Iraq. That was an interesting experience as a teenager. Wrench in one hand and my rifle in the other.

I’m from Chicago. Go back every couple years. Also lived a good portion of my life in Colorado and I go back there every couple years. Colorado is much scarier. Chicago is fine as long as you have basic street smarts. Colorado you always gotta be worried about wildfires, domestic terrorism, and the homeless zombie hordes

Chicago is a lovely city and only scary if you’re genuinely a complete and total idiot.

Dudes here have never been to or lived in a city because they're too scared to go to one, but will talk shit about how "liberals are too scared to do anything." Ultimate alpha male complex

I've had the misfortune of living/working in shithole cities for much of my life. I hate them. What's your opinion now?
In my opinion, they're ok if you're single and young, or trying to save money, but not good if you have a wife/girlfriend or children. I'm not sure what kind of "man" would let their wife walk through some of the neighborhoods I've been in. And in my experience, most people who speak so highly of urbanite life are white yuppies who pay $3k a month to live in some apartment where the immediate area/block looks "nice," but is literally a five minute walk or less from the straight up ghetto. There's this place in Akron called the Northside Lofts that charges $2,700 per month and the street over is literally MLK boulevard with abandoned crack den buildings and people shambling around with shopping carts full of copper wire. I used to work as a delivery driver there. The apartments have these giant, pretentious welcome mats that read: "the cure for suburbia."
No thanks. And that's before we discuss other issues such as privacy, freedom and property rights on your own land, noise, pollution, and the inherently unnatural and inhuman nature of modern cities in general.

My opinion is, I think you’re a pussy
Every city has bad parts to it. It’s up to you to enjoy your life around them and find the good parts. I’ve lived in shit hole middle of bum fuck nowhere cousin fuckin Kentucky. And I can assure you that even the worst parts of Lexington and Louisville are beyond comparison. to the best parts of Pike, Harlan and Letcher.
And if you’re so scared of other people safety, get them a gun n training course failing that don’t spend your entire fucking time in the shitty parts of the city

Yeah dude like the entire Midwest runs on methamphetamines.
Do you go to the trailer parks that run dope? No, you actively avoid them right? You do the same exact thing in the city, it is not that hard.
The cities are usually pretty clean, and then people such as yourself coming from out of town for sporting events and trash the city, and then have the nerve to call it dirty. Being a delivery driver doesn't exactly bring you down the cleanest routes either, speaking as someone who hauled galvanized steel regularly.
I'm happy that you're in a financial position where you can have a nice house in a nice neighborhood to shield yourself from the world. However, other people do not have that luxury. The only people who talk crap about cities are the ones who have never lived in one. I have plenty of privacy and there is literally nothing I can't do in terms of freedom.
If it's not for you, cool. Stop talking shit about something you don't know anything about.

I live in Chicago. It’s fine. Be very defensive when driving (people are just idiots), and when someone tells you to “come over” you don’t. If you follow those two rules you most likely will have a great experience. Great food, some nice attractions, and amazing history.

It'd be funnier if the NG and ICE wasn't patrolling every corner already
Y'all joke but "papers please" is very much already here, as noted by all the real ID bullshit you are all falling for

Omg, big city, super scary.

u/MisterShipWreck Mar 31 '26
I think you need to do some research on how many people get shot in Chicago on a weekly basis before you say that.

Who is getting killed in Chicago? Is it tourists waiting for triple a because they can't fix a flat? Or is it mostly criminal killing each other?

Lol, yeah I’d agree 90% of Chicago is like an awesome cheaper version of New York, but you have to admit some parts of the city are unfortunately quite dangerous and there’s an above average murder rate, most of which comes from gang violence
3
u/Chumlee1917 Beretta Bois Mar 31 '26
Pretty sure they have statistically broken it down that the most dangerous area of Chicago is relatively tiny compared to the city as a whole per metrics-but ya know, gotta keep that media narrative alive to terrify granny living in suburbia that her grandbabies are gonna get murdered going to a Cubs game in Chicago.
Now driving through parts of Appalachia.....floor it and don't stop

u/Purplegreenandred Mar 31 '26
Are you in a gang?
2
u/Q_dawgg Mar 31 '26
No, but just because you aren’t affiliated, doesn’t mean you can’t be a victim of gun violence
