CUSTOMIZING Decay and Rust
It’s been about a year from the last full build, paint and detailing. Wanted to push myself a bit past what I’m comfortable doing. This kit was a gift to a graffiti artist hommie.
Painted with the cheapest of Amazon airbrushed, I wanted to create something that looked ruined and abandoned. I hand painted his tag and then whited off a spot on the other shield - so he can add another micro tag if he wants.
I typically struggle with over weathering and I fear I might have fallen victim to it once again. The rust and decay was made with super glue, paint and a good olde weathering kit.
Feedback is welcomed!

Talk a bit about the claw. The way the rust looks textured and peeled up looks great

You got it!
Base coat of glossy black and then a natural steel overtop of that. On the steel, I did some light drybrushing of a darker steel over top of that.
Dabbed some matt black with a dry brush, gloss coat, panel lining and clean up, followed by about three coats of a matt top coat.
Once this was dry I added a few globs of cement and played around with them while they were drying to create texture, while also adding a little Vallejo Rust Texture for added color and texture.
After this had cured I went back in with tamiya weathering master kids B, C, & D add a little more color. Topped all of that with another matt coat, did my washes of brown, matt black and a bit of yellow, sprayed a final matt top coat and then called it a day.

What do you want to do it it?

I’m not sure about the base paint but I love the idea of oil spatter-thick stains on the melee arm and specks of the side that is wielding the uzi!

Hope to see when it’s finished! Sounds like you got a plan and that’s half the battle!

Usually I'm not a fan of overweathering, but this actually fits so well for the visual storytelling that I love it. Gotta make a full diorama for this Lil guy

That’s the thing! I feel like this is over weathered! The feet claws and the rust effects turned out really well but the rest of it, feels over done.
I need to start about what I want to do before I start doing it!

I think its all depends on how you want to tell this story. Currently, I see a mech that was abandoned a long time ago but due to the varying elements some parts are more eroded than others. Its like an "ombre" effect of rust

I was imaging it as a discarded suit: maybe the suit lost power? Or it was stolen and abandoned in an attempt to escape some bigwigs. It’s in a forest and hidden from the eyes of many.
Years ago, in this fictional micro world, a version of my friend found this, tagged it and then split before he could finish the other throw up.
I kinda came up with this story as I was going but, if I had thought it through from the start I might have made a lil diorama along with this kit.
I usually create the stories as I’m painting and building - overactive imagination over here! - I just need to be better about finding a story to tell BEFORE I’m halfway finished with painting

That's sick! Insanely realistic to my taste, especially rust effect. Now it needs environment, if it's possible, maybe something urban
