“0400, an unimaginable stellar event occurred” an United Earth intelligence officer hurriedly informed the room, “a fracture in reality has placed an Earth-sized planet closer to us than the moon. Designation is Corpus I”
The myriad of expressions and expletives from every language that hadn’t stopped in the two hours since the appearance of another world slowed as the officer continued. “That warp has also seemingly corrected any gravitational changes that should have occurred. Reports have confirmed…” he took a prolonged breath “have confirmed alien life on the planet, and they have similar industrial development to our own. The gravitational corrections appear to be messing with long range communications. No contact has been established.”
Chairman of the United Military Forces (UMF) spoke first, “initial satellite assessment of their offensive capabilities show eerie similarities to our own. High levels of radiation are clear through certain lenses. At this point in time, I can say with confidence they have the same interplanetary capabilities as we do.”
Earth’s Premier spoke in quick response, “with that said we don’t have any initial reason to suspect hostility as their first option. For all reasons they must be even more surprised than we are.”
EEEEEERRRRRRRR EEEEEERRRRRRRR EEEEEERRRRRRRR
“WE HAVE INCOMING!” an intelligence officer shouted. “5 unidentified objects just exited the atmosphere of Corpus I! Impact in 120 seconds!” Shouts rang out from multiple stations in the bunker: “14!” “20!” “32!”
The Chairman held multiple phones at once as the top analysts of Earth raced to decode what was flying their way. As he picked up another call the premier spoke “this could be an initial contact between species! A peace mission of sorts. We have nothing to show this is hostility!”
“They’re gathering at specific sites across the planet. We believe they’re preparing an invasion force, post-impact!” The Chairman’s face was flush red as he returned to shouting orders to whatever unfortunate soul was on the other side.

“Those could just be viewing sites for the first contact with another intelligent life form? Sites of prayer? Hell, people are gathering at every holy site, stadium, and screen on the Earth!” The President’s Chief of Staff shouted.
The Chief of the Global Intelligence Agency (GIA) sat with her trademark cold expression, “what are possible response packages?”
The Chairman, having regained composure, responded, “Interplanetary Ballistic Missiles (IPBM) launched from the Armstrong II complex moonside. We have 64 nuclear warheads ready. Additionally, Gravity Propelled Missiles from silos planetside can add an additional 145 to the missile swarm. Their initial strike will cut those numbers by over 80%”
“Defensive capabilities?”
“Interceptors will halt 5 in 10. Maybe more? It will be decimating.”

“We’re talking about destroying a civilization we’ve never even contacted over the possibility of an attack. They’ve gone through this same thought process. There is no reason to strike. The sensors may still be broken!” The head of Global Development argued.
“How many millions of pages of literature would we destroy, thousands of kilometres of paintings, tons of sculptures? How many lives would we be erasing? It is far too risky we must stand down” the Premier pleaded
The Chief of the GIA responded simply, “can we let the lives and culture of Earth go unavenged? Hundreds of millions may die today. Shall their deaths be in vain?"
“A civilization may sacrifice itself to not doom two– someone survives to tell the tale”
