Samples and all other currencies picked up during a mission are given equally to all Helldivers, no need to fight over them

Yes, fucking lots. Most things are too intricate to convey in a single subreddit reply, like where enemy weakpoints are, what equipment is good in which situations, where valves are on pipe objectives, etc.

A few things you should know going in, at least:

  1. Early game you need samples - things you pick up out in the field - to unlock ship-related upgrades. These are shared: If any one person brings a single sample onto the extraction vehicle then everybody gets +1 of that type of sample. There's no need to fight over who is bringing what onto the extraction ship. At difficulty 6+ all sample types spawn. Super samples usually spawn next to a ... phallic-shaped rock.
  2. Also early game you need requisition and medals which are mostly gained from completing objectives. The higher difficulty you play on the more of these you get.
  3. Mid-game onward you'll need super credits, which have a chance to be found in the world at the glowing yellow beacon pods, or in crates that need to be blown open, or in bunkers that usually require 2 people pressing buttons to open (though with an Exosuit or Warp Pack it's possible to phase through the door solo).

You unlock things in two different places: One is at the Patriotic Administration Center which is a terminal in your ship. This unlocks most of the stuff that isn't inside a warbond like the FRV, two Exosuits, Tanks, or free stratagem guns. The second place is in the Acquisition Center, which at the top of your screen while on the ship has a hotkey assigned to it. You start with the Helldivers Mobilize warbond unlocked, and there's a lot of good stuff in there worth getting, including some of the best Boosters in the game. Eventually you'll get the ability to customize weapons which happens in the Armory, but you need to level up a bit before the game allows you to do so.

Finally: Resource accumulation only occurs through completing objectives or through picking these resources off of the ground. Kills don't usually award you with anything unless stated otherwise, be it if there is a server-wide kill count order (none active at the moment) or one of your objectives for the mission is a certain kill count.

Exactly. This is the best tip you can give for a begginer honestly

Sometimes you will find bombs in the wild that can only be manually activated

u/Tanislarnet 2d ago

Honestly i have one simple... well make it two.

  1. HAVE FUN. Even if it means sticking to lower level dives or playing solo. If you arent haveing fun you are doing it wrong.

  2. Done be a dick. It pays to look up a diver etiquette video on youtube. Alot of it is simple and self explanitory but you would be surprised how often even experienced plaers are bad at it.

If you need a newbie frindly group to dive with feel free to send a message.

There are a few things you might keep in mind.

First, play at a difficulty of about 1-4 for a while. Against every opponent. At this level, the people you will play with are either veterans farming crap who are laid back/boozed/baked/whatever who don't care that you are green and eat up the reinforcement allocation because they pretty much cannot die safe for a freak accident. Or you're playing with others like you, who will sure as hell not complain about you screwing up. So play low diff, enjoy the view, find out how the various objectives work, what to do with the secondary objectives and just have a good time.

As for "what strategems to buy, what boosts to buy, what warbonds to buy, what to buy with the medals...", doesn't matter. And from 10 people you'll get 12 different opinion on what's the best to do. Yes, there are some of questionable value, yes, there are some that only really shine in very specific missions, but in the end, you'll unlock and have all of them anyway. What you want to get as early as you can is the boost (that's the cylindrical looking thing in the menu where you buy stuff with medals), because having a boost helps the whole team, and people will like it if you can provide that.

Aside of that, part of the joy of playing this is finding out yourself what the different guns and strategems do, and figuring out cool ways to use (and abuse) them.

Same for armor, same for weapons, same for grenades, same for secondaries. Mix and match, try some, maybe step down a difficulty level or two to try out something new and see if it fits. You might have to change strategies or setup when you go for higher difficulties later, but frankly, the Anti-Matter rifle served me well up to Super Helldive, to be honest. I just need more rounds now. It does require learning the weakpoints of all enemies, though, so if a "scientific" approach to the game isn't your speed, something else might be more your thing. Maybe the one-shot throwaway launcher that you can call in quite quickly again? You do you, you play the game your way!

Don't let anyone tell you that THIS is how it's done. He's talking out of his exhaust.

Climb difficulties slowly. When you got a few improvements on your ship, when your strikes come in faster, when they start doing more damage, when your turrets have more ammo and can take a beating, climb a notch in diff. You will have to eventually anyway because you will want "samples". And the rarer samples are only available on higher difficulties. And of course, higher difficulty leads to more samples.

One key element to remember: IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO CARRIES THEM. It doesn't matter who opens a cache with Super Credits, it does not matter who picks up the Medals, everyone gets them. So please don't be that weenie that kills me because I picked up his samples. Please. I hate that.

Another thing about samples: Only the ones you have on yourself when entering the pickup count. Anything you lost when you died is lying right there, they can be picked up again, but if they ain't picked up, they're lost. So try not to die in deep water or a bottomless hole when carrying the Super Samples...

helldivers.wiki.gg/ has a ton of great info about everything.

Honestly try to pick primary weapons that have "medium" penetration, so that you can learn the rest of the game without having to worry as much about remembering & hitting the enemy weak spots during all the chaos.

The Resupply calldown is shared amongst the entire team (if you use it the cooldown starts for everyone). Try to use it when everyone needs it and only take 1 resupply box unless your teammates are unwiling to take their resupply box.

Some maps have a ton of ammo, grenade packs and healing stim packs that can additionally help you resupply.

For the sake of simplicity and reliability make sure you always bring an anti-tank weapon, such as the Expendable Anti Tank rocket calldown. Later on as you learn the game you can adjust how much anti-tank you bring and of what style/type. Recoilless rifle and Autocannon are great for most heavy targets yet are very simple to use.

If a teammate died very far from you and there are other players near his corpse, try to let those close by players call down reinforcements (respawn the dead teammate) so that their dropped equipment is nearby for them to re-take.

Do not get passed when killed by a team mate. Keep playing. First think then get a warbond. You can find supercredits you do not need to buy them. When playing bots you do not have the right to stand up right

Don't drink and drive.

Items collected in missions such as samples, super credits and medals are shared between the players. If you get 10 samples, everyone else gets 10 also, etc.

Be smart about your loadout, having something for every task is necessary.
(if you prefer bug front, bring some explosives to close the bug holes)

Many guns have alternate fire modes (you can also assign a quick swap), this is essential for some weapons like the Autocannon, The OneTwo or the Stoker (and others).

A good starter premium Warbond are either Ironclad Democracy or Democratic Detonation, because those give you a good mix of explosives (to close bug holes or bunk fabricators) and anti Tank / Chaff clear options.

Strong Stratagems you can bring to any mission (and which are available early i think) are:

Eagle Strafing run (a community favorite, and VERY versatile)
Orbital Gatling Barrage (against chaff)
Eagle 110 mm (against the big guys)

Machine Gun Turret
Rocket Turret (against the big guys)

Auto Cannon
Recoilless Rifle

Do what the elders do. Stay out of their way and watch their back.

Then kick even more ass when you get the hang of it.

2

u/Piemaster113 2d ago

Collect samples, get to 20, don't get too crazy about doing higher level stuff

2

u/UhhSamuel 2d ago

Samples, medals, requisition slips, and super credits are shared by the team.

You can stim your selfmid-air. That is the best thing you can do when in imminent danger dive and stim yourself Helldiver this will make you survive things you wouldn't otherwise.

Happy diving Helldiver and remember you fight for: For Liberty! For Freedom! For Managed Democracy! For Super Earth!

u/marcu9987 Free of Thought 2d ago

Also stay far away from subreddits because people here will make you feel stupid for using the weapons you like so go diving and forget this subreddit ever existed until you've found what you like and can use

2

u/Mezeye 2d ago

Don’t forget to bring something that can reliably close spawners (Bug holes/bot fabricators, etc.)
Eagle Airstrikes are available early, and the Auto-cannon is a good choice, too.
It’s always something to consider in your build.
The same with objective destroying stratagems. You can shave a minute off some side-objectives like Detector Towers if you have a 500Kg.

Orbital precision strike is a good choice for bot secondaries (it can destroy most of them unless they specifically need a hellbomb)

If you get stimmed by a friendly say thank you also if someone does not have stims look at the left it will look at the syringe icon and if it’s flashing red they have no stims either one call resuply or stim them when they are low

Get good noob

Lol, just kidding. Just enjoy and use what you like. There is no true meta except what you find useful.

It really is a fun game and having a team only compounds that. Good luck helldiver

If it moves shoot. Then shoot more. Sometime you need big calibers.

Have fun.
