*Salter was elected mayor of Argonia on April 4, 1887. Her election was a surprise because her name had been placed on a slate of candidates as a stunt by a group of men hoping to secure a loss that would humiliate women and discourage them from participation in politics.*

The fascination with the Roman Empire among Americans and Europeans stems largely from a shared cultural ancestry rooted in its laws, architecture, and political ideals. From the architecture of government buildings in Washington, D.C., to the foundational legal codes of Europe, Rome feels like an eternal blueprint for modern civilization. Many also find a deep sense of identity and prestige in tracing democratic values, military discipline, and grand engineering achievements back to a historical superpower. Furthermore, the dramatic tales of rise, moral decay, and ultimate collapse serve as a perpetual mirror for contemporary anxieties about the fate of modern Western societies. Ultimately, Rome represents a golden standard of monumental ambition that continues to capture the Western imagination.

Context: During a raid on the Island of Maui, King Kamehameha of Hawaii was chasing down some civilians when his leg was caught in coral. Two fishermen, one of them named Kaleleiki, came to the aid of the fleeing civilians.

Unlike most slasher films, Kaleleiki took advantage of the fact that the giant (Kamehameha was 7ft tall) attacker was stuck and struck him in the head with an oar, nearly killing him.

Years later, Kamehameha had the pair of fishermen tracked down and brought before him, where he admitted fault in attacking the innocents and forgave the two

Crucifixion was a common execution method in Japan too. The Tokugawa Shogunate banned Christianity and sought to systemically eradicate it to limit foreign influence and social disorder.

II Samuel 6:16

As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
