Holy Cross Freshman Dorm - Brooks Hall

Sharing some pics from my freshman dorm here because there was nothing detailed online when I was moving in last year. I lived on the first floor of Brooks (the biggest freshman dorm).

My room was a double.

Most Brooks rooms have these built in closet cabinets and an overhead light. Hanselman has white cabinets and some of the Clark rooms have them. Hanselman rooms don't have an overhead lights, I recommend getting a lamp. If your cabinet isn't built in they'll give you a standing dresser, unfortunately not pictured.

The built in cabinets have an overhead compartment that's really big. I've seen people climb in them before, it's decent storage space. The main closet interior is also pictured. There are 6 drawers, 5 pretty deep drawers and the top one is smaller.

The cabinets have built in mirrors and little built in lights with a few different settings. The mirror is kinda tall, I recommend getting a stool for your dorm for that and for accessing the upper cabinet space.

The desks have built-in lights and some of them have corkboard backs. They have 2 big drawers 2 shallow drawers.

In my room there was an unmovable shelf (picture 6) attached to the back wall. It's blocked by the desk in the first picture. This is in most of the freshman dorm rooms so you can't put your bed back there and rearrange where the desk is without blocking it.

Each room has a heat dial near the windowsill that works pretty well, although I never had to use it much because the dorms were always a good temp.

One extra detail- the walls and pretty soundproof but the doors are not at ALL. You can hear everyone walking by in the hall just through the doors. It's not so bad, just a heads up.

Hope this helps incoming freshmen!! :)

I was about to comment I was in Mulledy. Does it go by Brooks now?

Yes. They changed it from Mulledy to Brooks.

It was Brooks-Mulledy when I first got there and then eventually they dropped the Mulledy. I think he was a slave owner or something

Oh wow, I can see why they dropped it. I graduated 2009.

It is honestly ridiculous how poor quality these dorms are here and at many other colleges, expecting college students to live in sub standard poverty level conditions, all while charging astronomical tuition, room and board for most—-> then sending others for free on those inflated rates. The living conditions should be fully renovated, no excuses with full current technology embedded in every room - else paying customers should refuse to attend.

It’s not that bad, honestly. I lived there! After freshman year the dorms get better. It’s one of those things everyone bonds over after living there. Would I live there again? No. But glad I did for the experience ha.

I wonder when the rooms were last renovated. The dorm room in the pictures looks exactly like the one I was in 22 years ago (before the current freshmen were born). It's sad that there have been no updates in that entire time.

Great times on Mulledy 1C in 1981! It's the people, not the rooms!

I think a majority of schools have crappy freshman dorms for some reason

True - but brother transferred from Holy Cross. Said dorms felt like a prison.
