serious hot take you finding something sexy ≠ that thing being sexual.

this tends to be a big thing when people talk about others "sexualizing themselves" due to specific clothing or actions.

Not everything is seen as sexual by the same societies/individual people. in some cultures boobs are a 100% normal thing to have visible and aren't treated as "sexy".

Just because you can see a part of a persons body that YOU find sexy, that doesn't mean theyre dressing sexually.

Collarbones, stomachs, thighs, etc are not inheritly sexual in the slightest.

If I drive a loud sports car, that doesn't inherently mean I'm doing it for attention. I could legitimately do it because I like hearing the noise. However, I also recognize that it's going to draw attention to me. They're looking for the same reason I like to do it. It's loud. This doesn't mean I deserve to have my car vandalized or to have insults thrown at me. It's not an excuse to break the law.

But I do have to recognize that making noise attracts attention. Two seemingly contradictory things can be true at the same time (attracting attention doesnt mean "deserves abuse")

Well written, this is the kind of nuanced thinking a sub like this needs.

I think this can be applied in alot of different scenarios too -

if you’re the type of person that sexualize a kid dancing, or a child’s belly showing or a person providing hygienic care to their elders or pet or baby- like that’s just a YOU problem.

There’s nothing sexy about a lot of things that some people sexualize.

I'd take this a little further, what someone wears or looks like shouldn't change with how much respect you treat them. You can absolutely think that someone looks/dressed weird, bad, or sexual, but you don't need to tell the person that. Clothes are not consent/permission to treat someone badly.

Nor is an erect penis that can be seen through gray sweatpants.

Yeah but people have to be judged by the culture they're operating in. There are places where nudity is normal but if a man strips down naked in front of a woman thats a sex crime in most countries.

And can anything be inherently sexual? What does that mean? Is a guy showing off his dick sexual, because they're used primarily for taking a piss which isnt a sexual action.

Eh, depends. Sure I wouldn't say showing collarbones is sexualizing yourself, but showing boobs clearly is sexual in our culture. It's pretty irrelevant that it's not so in other cultures, because everything always is context-dependent.

If I started behaving in ways that are considered very inappropriate and then say "but in culture X it's fine" you also wouldn't like that.

"Acskhually other cultures do things differently" isn't as clever an observation as you think it is. Sure, but we live in this culture. Yes, things in fact do depend on context, but that doesn't mean that just discarding context is smart.

no. take accountability for your actions. all female dressing is a power move. to control men through lust and attention and other women through admiration. if you gave every scantily dressed woman a truth serum, that's what she would say.

I can’t believe a woman gave birth to you for you to say that.

  1. I feel bad for you parents.
  2. “A power move” ok and?? In no universe is that true but even if it was… everything is a power move.
  3. “To control men” HAHAHHAHA youre funny. You had to just include yourself in anything a women does didnt u.

I directionally agree with some of what you're saying, but you're being so hyperbolic that you're making your post very easy to attack.

Yes if a woman walks around nearly naked she's doing that to attract Chad's attention. True.

But "all female dressing is a power move" -- sometimes women just want to get groceries and what are they supposed to do, go naked to the store?

obviously not. i hope we are not arguing at that level . thats why i highlighted the scantily part. especially when there was a long preparation process.

also surprise surprise. humans can be motivated by multiple motives at the same time. a woman can simultaenously dress hot because:
1)she has anxiety over the social expectations society imposes on her.
2)might see an ex there she wants to impress.
3)signal success and virility to her peers
4)wanna feel pretty and refreshed.
5)engage in complex power dynamics of lust and status.
6)make a cultural or political statement with a specific attire.
7)escape routine.
8) have a shared dress code and fashion lovelanguage with her immediate friends cicrle.

yes, humans can have multiple layers of interwoven motives.

Following your logic, in modern society, if someone walks outside naked are they dressing sexually?

1

u/Expensive-Place-8589 9h ago

Btw(this might come as a shock) but theres nothing sexual about a body. Same reason you look at animals and dont sexualize them, you could too, look at another animal, a human, and not sexualize them. If you went to a nude beach and started sexualizing people instead of just seeing them as PEOPLE. Humans. Animals. Then youre weird. Theres no way around it.

2

u/jay10033 8h ago

There is nothing inherently sexual about a dildo, rose toy, shaking ones ass. In fact, by your logic, there's nothing inherently sexual about a strip club. If you went to a strip club and started sexualizing the dancers, you are the weird one.

2

u/Interesting_Concept8 8h ago

There is nothing inherently sexual. Period. We, as animals, feel attraction to things and society tells us how we should act towards we feel attracted to. We can choose to enter a strip club and enjoy it and we can choose to enter it and be unfazed by it.

2

u/jay10033 8h ago

I hear you. A dildo is just silicone formed in a specific was. It has no purpose. The strip club is the same. It has no purpose.

You obviously by now know this take is hot garbage. You go around looking at a knife saying - "it's just a piece of metal. We only use it as a knife because society tells is to...". If that's the case, what makes it a knife? And not something else?

1

u/Euphoric_Can_2748 8h ago

Simple as ABC but some people will not still get it.

1

u/LogicOverEmotion0 9h ago

So your take is that walking outside naked in modern society isn't sexual? In which case why don't you do it around children if you truly believe that?

1

u/Interesting_Concept8 8h ago

Well natives all around the world used to be naked around children without it being sexual. Culture created clothes and dictated that being without them is sexual.

Children in beaches can play and be children around almost-naked adults without it being an issue. It is normal, no?

The left's "deconstruct everything" approach isn't as clever as you think it is.

By your logic: if I call a gay person a "f**" then there's nothing bigoted about that. I'm just producing sound waves. You could just listen to the sound waves and not immediately draw the "bigot" conclusion; if you do that's your doing. Who knows, maybe I'm just producing random sounds and it just so happens that I say something that sounds like the f-word but really I'm just doing improvisational yodeling.

Obviously that's insane logic and calling gay people a "f**" is homophobic and bad. Well, similarly, some body parts are sexual.

There is not a single culture where breast are not sexualized in some capacity. Breast may be allowed to be shown openly and may not be AS sexualized as other cultures but they are sexualized nonetheless.

0

u/Expensive-Place-8589 9h ago

Would recc to maybe research before just randomly saying anything
“Yes, there are many cultures and historical periods where female breasts are not sexualized and are instead viewed as functional, natural parts of the body.” - bc thats what they f are. Body parts.

0

u/Kariya_shigatoki 8h ago

"Would recc to maybe research before just randomly saying anything" Yet I saw no proof to justify the claim that there are cultures that do not "sexualize" breasts simply because they are openly shown. OP said something with no proof or justification and I stated the counter.

"bc thats what they f are. Body parts." I never said they weren't body parts or weren't functional but for humans in general there are some oddity to them. They really shouldn't be as large as they are and they are an indicator of puberty which indirectly means they are entering their period where they may be able to have children. Humans are one of the only species that maintain permanent breasts for most of their lives starting at puberty. Which most likely ties them to sex.
