serious hot take The dehumanization of babies and the humanization of pets is horrible

2.9k Upvotes

I’ve heard people say that they would save their dog over a Random baby and that is insane. This even extends to the Clancy case where people are supporting a woman who MURDERED her 3 kids. People also calling their pets their “kids” is weird as shit. People are crazy and the world is going to shit

serious hot take I think "the ick" is a way for women to "wokely" express that they get turned off when a man doesn't perform traditional masculinity and it's kind of misogynistic.

2.8k Upvotes

Whenever I've seen women talking about "he gave me the ick" it's always the same stuff my uncles and cousins would call me gay for doing because it wasn't manly. He used an umbrella when it was raining, he used his hip to close the fridge, he couldn't change a tire, he put his hands up on a roller coaster, he ordered a fruity drink, he knew all the words to a song by a female artist.

It just always seems to be things that are traditionally feminine. I think most "progressive" women still do desire men that are traditionally masculine, but they are acutely aware that it is antithetical to their beliefs to shame a man for not expressing masculinity in the ways they desire.

In a patriarchal society, women often serve as enforcers of the idea of what men should be, i'd argue more so than men because most men still pursue women and have to mold themselves into what women find attractive. So this way, those women can still serve that role of enforcement without it coming across as patriarchal.

It's misogynistic because it reinforces the idea that anything a man does that isn't "manly" is bad, and the opposite of "manly" is feminine and we assign femininity to a lot of benign things.

serious hot take Just because you have kids does not mean that I have to work all the holidays because you want to spend time with your family

2.2k Upvotes

I am a young adult who works full time. I work in a place where most people are older than me. I asked for holidays off for this upcoming season and was told my requests off don’t matter as much because I don’t have children.

Mind you- I have friends and family of my own who I’d like to spend time with. Just because someone chose to have kids and then chose to still be a working parent does not mean much of anything to me. I don’t think it’s fair that I should have to work instead of my coworkers because I don’t have kids yet.

This is also not a critically important job. We don’t have to be working every single day of the year. I worked labour day weekend and was not able to spend time with friends or see family because I let the other people take it off so they could spend time with their kids before school started up again. This same courtesy is not even offered to me.

I will probably have to work Halloween, thanksgiving Christmas and new years this year because I don’t have kids. I work 5-6 days a week, 40-50+ hours and bend over backwards for my coworkers but if I ask for a weekend off (without dipping below 40 hours) I’m a nuisance.

Because I don’t have kids my free time and family are not held to the same standard and that doesn’t make sense to me.

Edit: I recognize that this issue is more about the management than my coworkers. Thank you all for pointing that out. Secondly, I also think if no one wants to work on a specific day (I.e. a holiday) then maybe this business shouldn’t be open on said day. This would be at no detriment to the business. I also have worked and picked up extra shifts on holidays for years in my career without an issue at previous jobs. I don’t mind working a holiday I do mind being the ONLY one working every holiday. And I also DO mind working holidays when I’m not providing an essential service.

I wrote this post when I was upset and angry. I will be having a discussion with my management team about this moving forward. I didn’t expect this to get so popular, so thank you for everyone that gave advice that was rational and professional.

serious hot take Generalizing men based on statistics about violent crime is using the exact same logic racists use to defend generalizing marginalized men

1.2k Upvotes

I want to preface this by saying I don’t believe either one of these generalizations are necessarily valid but they are utilizing the same “a few bad apples ruin the bunch“ framework. I know that black men face overpolicing, disproportionate exonerations, disproportionate sentencing etc but those apply to all men since men are the majority of criminals.

serious hot take People with major genetic disorders shouldn't have children

1.4k Upvotes

I am talking about disorders that are like actually serious and will make kid's life much harder, or can even lead to kid's death.

I don't care about the " but we love each other " thing, the fact that you want to have kids even trough you are very well informed, that kid will inherit your defect is disgusting to me.

Making a child that you know will likely suffer from the same thing you did suffer with, maybe suffer even more than you did, is just morally wrong

Edit: welp, i learnt about IVF. It is an insanely cool technology. I practically take my argument back bc of it. Now i only have problems with people that have severe disorders that they know will pass down to their kids, yet refuse to use IVF. Honestly learned alot from this post. About eugenics, about nazism. Even though this post is a form of eugenics, i think that the idea of this post was, way less radical than alot of people thought. I practically only meant that i am mad at people i was talking about, not that i want something to be legally enforced

serious hot take A lot of dudes want to be GIVEN an attractive girlfriend and aren't being honest about that.

1.1k Upvotes

A lot of guys hear every solution to their problems and still want to resign themselves to hopelessness.
And before a bunch of you say "I don't do any of those things." Or "I do all of this and I'm married". Then I'm clearly not talking about you.

A lot of you guys will say things like not wanting to "settle" when nobody asked you to. You say you're short, ugly, neurodivergent etc. and it's hopeless. Or you haven't god awful personalities and lack the awareness to improve those things, but blame anything and everything on somebody else. "It's women who are the problem."

Clinging to stupid ideals like "hypergamy" and "gold diggers" hold you back, and you cry foul and rage when women call you "incels" for thinking like antisocial weirdos. At the end of the day you're only holding yourself back. A lot of you hate hearing "Improve yourself" or "have confidence" but it's really what you need to do and it's the harsh truth.

Yet it's easier to complain, join echo chambers, play "But women", and embitter yourself than to self reflect and do the work on your negative qualities. You want a woman to fall into your lap against her will. Socialize, work on yourself, learn about the women you like, take on new interests and experiences, get offline a while.

It's hopeless because you say it is.

serious hot take Just because it’s “your culture” doesn’t mean it’s not annoying/distracting

4.5k Upvotes

In regard to the Sabrina Carpenter Coachella thing, I’ve noticed a lot of people accusing her of being culturally insensitive and racist for her reaction to being interrupted by “yodeling” during her performance. Upon reading comments from other redditors defending Sabrina Carpenter, I’ve seen a lot of people saying “Sabrina thought the person doing it was white.” To me this implies that it’s okay to call white people out for annoying behavior but not POC. Idgaf what your culture does but annoying behavior is annoying behavior. Stop ruining things for other people by being loud and obnoxious.

serious hot take Anti-Vaxxers are selfish

1.1k Upvotes

Unless you have a legitimate medical reason to NOT receive a vaccine (i.e: allergies, conflicting medications, etc) you are extremely selfish, ESPECIALLY if you don’t get your own kids vaccinated because of what you were brainwashed to believe. There’s always a chance for side effects to literally anything (even your precious essential oils or other home “remedies”). IMO not getting your child vaccinated unless there is a legitimate medical reason is and should be considered child abuse. There shouldn’t be children dying from diseases and illnesses that are easily prevented by getting vaccinated. You’re not just putting yourself and your kids at risk, you’re putting EVERYONE at risk. That includes elderly people, pregnant women, children, people with compromised immune systems, etc. At-risk groups shouldn’t have to suffer or go into hiding because you don’t want to do what is medically appropriate and necessary.

serious hot take People who complain about moms breastfeeding in public are clowns

Babies need to be fed. So a mom breastfeeding her baby in the train, at a restaurant, a park is non of anyone's business. If it bothers you close your eyes.

But asking women to feed their kids in the bathroom if they don't want to do that is ridiculous. Do you eat in the bathroom?

What is more horrible about this is when backlash also comes from other women "I fed my kid in the bathroom, why don't you" gee, I don't know lady, we are mammals and I can use a cover up and feed the kid in the train if I want to.

serious hot take Two consenting adults have zero reason to convince you their relationship is valid

Saw a comment asking for a “valid reason an older man would refuse to date a woman his age and instead go do a younger woman” in order to convince them. I think it’s been said numerous times over and over in multiple ways and it’s clear these people don’t want to listen.

But I thought about it and I think the real question is “Why do two consenting adults need to convince you their relationship is valid”? The answer is they don’t. It’s just as valid a relationship as any other whether you think it’s ok or not.

“Well I’m free to judge to them”. Sure just as a racist is able to judge interracial relationships or a homophobe is able to judge gay relationships. And just like those people, you’re a bit of a loser

serious hot take video games arent "making women ugly", you've just never seen a real woman.

Believe it or not, women are not posed with stoic, blank, fuck-me expressions at all times. faces contort, chins wrinkle, hair frizzes. Women look like adults with imperfections and facial scars and real facial bones.

You've just never been around a woman long enough to notice.

serious hot take Being cheap when it comes to dating as a man is probably best filter you can use.

Like honestly this is just the truth now honestly I should probably reword this by saying if you arent going to be cheap at least do it within your means.

Like if you don't get a second date you arent angry about the money you spent pretty much like going out to the casino don't spend more then your willing to lose.

But honestly doing this will filter people out honestly from the ones who are actually interested and the ones who are just trying to get something out of you.

serious hot take Socrates was correct, democracies are inherently flawed because the average person is too misinformed and/or stupid to vote.

1.0k Upvotes

Even in the age of information, where the sum of human knowledge is at our fingertips, humans vote for people who are openly vile and corrupt. I understand that democracy has brung about a lot of personal freedom for people, but pretending it's the pinnacle of human government and we can't possibly come up with anything better is just people being lazy. I don't have any ideas right now, but it is a problem.

serious hot take If women say cold approaching is creepy it’s because you are most likely ugly

I’ve seen a lot of women on here say that cold approaching would never work because they’re scared of strangers and such, but I feel like most of them are lying. If you’re getting rejected when cold approaching, like me, it’s because of your appearance. I don’t approach anymore, but I used to, and I was never able to get a single number or date. Everyone said they had a boyfriend or weren’t interested, but I know for a fact it was because of my appearance. My cousin, who is an attractive dude, was cold approaching women and getting a bunch of numbers. So, if women say cold approaching is creepy to you, it’s most likely because you’re just unattractive. Let’s be real: most women would give Henry Cavill their number even if he were a complete stranger.

serious hot take The worst part of being poor isn’t just lack of money , it’s who you are surrounded by

1.5k Upvotes

Being poor in America means you are probably forced to live in an area with ghetto people. Believe me these people are the most belligerent and insufferable to be around. Loud yelling outside your apartment at 1 am , car break-in’s and burglaries. If I have to work long hours to not be around these people, so be it.

serious hot take Basically all the gender war bait slop is avoided or countered with two easy to accept axioms

  1. No one is entitled to have a romantic partner

This one should be obvious, and anyone who disagrees is a moron

  1. The ability to get a romantic partner doesnt say much about a person's worth

Just because someone is able to get a partner, it doesnt mean that they are a good person or an accomplished individual. This is easy enough to see. The reciprocal, is easy to see, but a lot of people seem in denial: just because someone cant get a romantic partner, it doesnt mean hes a horrible person or a failure in life.

These 2 axioms can counter all gender war bait slop. Just accept them, and move on

serious hot take women arent dressing for you and assuming so is crazy

the constant assumption men seem to have that women are dressing for THEIR attention or interest is so bonkers insane to me.

I attend pilates, which are classes of all women. almost every woman wears the exact same thing there as she would in any other gym, some even dress slightly lighter/in tighter clothes than typical because they feel MORE comfortable in a closed area with only women. if women were dressing for mens attention, why would they be wearing the exact same outfits to workout with other women?

On top of that, why would women go to womens only gyms if they were apparently dressing for an excuse to be stared at? please think with your head and not your duck for 2 seconds, thank you

serious hot take being a woman and playing video games still sucks. *

* mostly multi-player games

I've heard people say that gaming being more of a gender neutral hobby is part of its downfall and women wanting to be included in everything is a problem wnd yada yada, but man, gaming isnt really a gender neutral hobby at all when you actually experience it.

Trying to play any multi-player game with comms? good luck if its a male dominated game, i still hear people genuinely say the stupid "make me a sandwich" bs.

Trying to play a fighting game? Good luck being harassed for playing a feminine character in an online game, or having a feminine name.

trying to talk about the games you play online? people WILL shut down everything you have to say.

Trying to create gaming spaces intended for women? People will raid them, harass members, doxx people involved, etc.

ETA: this isnt even mentioning the rape threats lmao

serious hot take Low effort / bad fathers are the default.

Being a low effort / bad dad is the default low bar and for some reason everyone seems to enable it. A lot of dads I see are literally just their wifes third kid.

Maybe back in the day you could get by with the excuse “I provide for my family so…” x y and z. But nowadays both parents in most households work and for some reason dads still think they deserve special treatment and need extra child free time for gaming / hobbies / etc.

Here’s random shit I’ve heard throughout the years lol, I’m sure yall can add more.

“My kids would rather be with their mom”

“When they are older I’ll spend more time with them”

“Women are more nurturing and better suited for care giving”

“I work hard, I just need a break every now and then”

“I don’t know how to cook so my wife does the cooking”

I’m glad women are raising the bar when it comes to dating, can yall raise it some more for parenting? I’m sick of hearing all these crazy stories about moms working themselves to death because dad needs to drink beer and watch the game.

serious hot take Too many MOC and WOC base their desirability off whether or not white people find them attractive.

I tend to notice this slightly more with MOC tbh, but WOC definitely aren't exempt. I can tell based off such questions being asked. Example: "Why do black women mainly show interest in me?"

Another example: "White women always seem to ignore me in bars. Why is this?"

Example 3: "Do I, as a ____ man/woman stand a chance with a blonde haired blue-eyed from Scandinavia?

It's not like you're not getting attention at all, but it's ridiculous, at least imho, that the attention doesn't count unless it's from a white person.

serious hot take Men don't date younger women because "women his age don't like him".

We often treat men in their 30s and 40s as losers who can't get women in their 30s and 40s. I think this is somewhat accurate at times but I think it's also unfair. Different people want different types of relationships and the ones you can have with a woman who's 22 and one who 42 are very different. The expectations, treatment and appearances that younger women being are just different. One isn't better than the other one either but you just get a different experience.

serious hot take If you arent ready for any kind of kid dont have them.

Kid could be gay, trans, disabled, like a band you hate, whatever. If you cant be ready for the chance dont have one. Dont want a girl? Dont try. Dont think you could raise them if they ever came out lgbt or would kick them out? Dont have any. If the idea you may need to care or spend more than you assumed dont have them cause even a "normal healthy" child could be a struggle especially the financial argument what if they end up super into every hobby or a set college they want if you dont want the chance dont have a kid. If you just hope they grow up to take care of you when old? Dont have them. If you want a baby to show off but not raise dont have one. If you know you cant give them attention or love for any reason, dont have them!!!!

Edit if I had a kid id love them for them but I am mentally and physically disabled abandoned by most of my family (all blood for sure has) and not able to afford living alone therefore i realize i can not give them what id want to so I will not have a child!!! If I get pregnant the abortion is a blanket thing for any kind of kid. My argument is if yhe abortion is only for a set kind of kid dont get pregnant. If them coming out later is a problem or them needing you after 18 is. Dont have them.

TLDR LAST EDIT TO DUMB IT DOWN AS MUCH AS I CAN. IF YOUR CHILD BEING A HUMAN AND NOT A DOLL YOU CONTRIL DONT HAVE THEM!!!! Damn. I never said if you dont know how to raise a child but know you can care and love them then dont. But if you dont know if you can love them for who they will be then dont have them???

serious hot take I think owning dogs you physically can't restrain should be illegal/restricted

I think it's extremely irresponsible and should even be illegal to own a dog you physically can't restrain especially if you have children or live in an area near children. The danger these dogs can cause is extreme serious injuries and the possibility of death to another person isn't worth this freedom. I think larger dogs should require a permit and professional training. If you want a "guard dog" it should be a process more similar to getting a gun, I think both the owner and the dog need proper training before the dog should be able to be owned by the average person along with a background check just to be sure they have a history of being a responsible human being.

I am very aware that little dogs tend to bite more, but a little dog that attacks you or someone else you can throw them off or restrain them significantly easier than you can a pit bull. I think there is a significant difference between drawing some blood and being capable of taking limbs off and causing permanent disfigurement or death

If you can't physically stop that dog's attack if it lashes out, you have no business owning one in the first place. I don't care that your dog is a "gentle giant" it only takes one instance for something bad to happen. The average person doesn't need a Cane Corso or a Mastiff I think the risk is not worth "your freedom" to do whatever and take whatever risk you want especially when it puts non-consenting people at risk. I don't hate dogs or anything but I do see a massive creature with large teeth and a strong bite force as inherently dangerous in the event that it becomes reactive, angry, or irritated. At the end of the day they are animals and will act like animals to some extent.

serious hot take men v.s. women divide is being driven by artificial algorithms to prevent class consciousness

have you noticed that popular trends disappear almost as soon as they appear? but for that brief moment when they are trending literally nothing else but that story appears on your feed. it is way too structured to be coincidental; one day it feels like every single post is on the Clancy case, then all of a sudden it just disappears, now all of the focus is on the Cornell 7, which, if my hypothesis is true, will die down just as quickly and be replaced with something else. this strategy has been hyper-effective at fragmenting attention and amplifying division. it's so interesting that they are both framed to elicit "all women are evil / all men are evil" feelings.

serious hot take The BEST way to interact with Mormon missionaries is to be kind

I know random people coming to your door to proselytize to you is annoying. It just happened to me yesterday. I think it's very important to remember that these are 18-year-old boys who are essentially being thrust out into the world to learn the lesson that non-believers are mean. At the end of the day, they are not actually there to gain a substantial amount of followers. Their leaders know that that is not effective. What? They're really out doing is teaching themselves-- without knowing it-- that strangers are not kind to them, and that the people who will be kind to them are the people who are already in their religious group, exclusively.

I do my best to sabotage this evil lesson by being kind. It's almost adorable how obvious it is that they aren't expecting you to step outside of your front door, politely fold your hands, and listen to them.

It's lovely to watch them nervously fumble over their words and be pleasantly surprised when you know about Joseph Smith and the angel Moroni and the Golden Plates.

It's refreshing to tell them, they're your guests since they're at your door, and to see them smile when you offer them something to drink, and to eat.

It's deeply satisfying to let them know you simply wanted to, because that is how people should treat each other.

Plus, you get a free copy of the Book of Mormon. I'm gonna use mine to make my first foldbook art!
