DISCUSSION Metro

I'm looking for deals on horror games and there isn't too many since it's spooky season. But, I can get all 3 Metro games for $3. My only question is are they horror games? The search results are kind of wishy washy about it. Thanks for any help

Kinda. I'd consider them stealth shooter games more but the first two, 2033 and Last Light, have a lot of horror elements to them. A lot of areas are set in post apocalyptic underground subway stations that are poorly lit and have some mutant creatures population them. Well worth the price. They're fun games.

Haven't played them yet but did buy them all on sale. I've always gotten the vibe that they're spooky shooters but aren't straight horror.

Played the first two.

They aren't straight up horror but it's kind of like Russian Fallout. There's plenty of stuff to explore, but not open world, and there's bits of lore and background that make things horrific. The monsters are cool, the weapons never really feel OP and you use special ammo for money so you have to decide if you need tk spend that money or save it for when you need it or shoot it and lose it forever when you may need money later.

It's a lot of "Bad things are outside but the humans are inside and that can be worse".

They are horror games.

When the original Metro 2033 came out in 2010 it was specifically advertised as a horror game and also scared the shit out of me.

Its slogan was "Fear the Future".

People comparing them to Fallout miss the mark...Fallout has a completely different gamestyle and it isnt scary at all.

I think the 1st game tends to get the horror label whereas the other 2 get the FPS label. From memory, the 1st game has more non-human enemies, so I suspect that’s why.

I’m not sure I’d say any are true horror, but they’re horror-adjacent. Dark tunnels, creatures that can startle you, some psychological aspects etc.

Enjoyable games though and a bargain at that price. A new one is coming out next year.

It's horror with action and stealth segments, and elements of survival that increases with difficulty level. Other than mutants there are paranormal events/entities as well.

They're definitely spooky but I wouldn't call them horror. But they are without a doubt great and 133% worth picking up.

Thanks, I did end up picking them up. Also, I found out the first 2 are getting graphical updates at the end of the month for free as long as you own them

They aren't horror games but they have horror elements, and some parts are more horror than others, if that makes sense. In that way, they're a lot like the Stalker series.
