Misery is a Masterpiece
Love the book and the movie. Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I like Misery, the book and the movie, better than The Shining. Do you agree or disagree?

A great psychological horror film that concerns a shut down mental asylum and the asbestos removal company who strange events start happining to them while they work. Iv seen this 20 times or so and still, on occasion, find a new clue to what's going on. Watch this one alone and in the dark and it will live in your mind long aftwards. Just like Simon does.

Alright, following my bleak and horrific movies train. I followed Terrified and When Evil Lurks with The Dark and The Wicked. It delivered!!! The atmosphere of the rural South, the dread, the bumps and creaks in the night, the gore! The hopelessness and isolation. I eat up southern gothic! It was truly atmospheric for me. I have a few gasps while watching as well and was clutching my blanket a couple of times!! The turnabout in belief was top notch. Can evil find you if you don't believe in it. Does a wolf care if you believe it's a wolf? If you liked either of those movies or Sinister I'd most definitely tell you to give this a watch. I'm using that 7day Shudder free trial til my eyeballs dry out!!!
Unlike the other two movies in my theme this weekend, we don't get a clear explanation of the horror. The lore is more vague and undefined, which could be a complaint. A minor complaint of mine in fact. I would have liked a couple of more threads I could red string together. However, the ambiguity lingers and builds for me. What and how the entity works and emerges is incomplete, and I love to speculate wildly. It builds the horror for me, and reflects the characters experience. There's a quote, "The devil doesn't come to you with a red face and horns, he comes to you disguised as everything you've ever wanted." This quote doesn't fit perfectly, but can be edited to "disguised to flow in any gaps and crevices he can". How or why he gets there or targets this family or community? Who's to say. We don't get to know, and maybe that's the point.
I'm from the Bible Belt and was raised Southern Baptist before deconstructing. What a Friend We Have in Jesus is a hymn ingrained in me, and I still routinely catch myself humming it. Nope. Not anymore.

Much like many, my October nights have been spent watching horror movies. Tonight, I look forward to one of the best ever.

If you’re into historic horror, Deathwatch is a must- see! Set on the WW1 Western Front in 1917, a British army unit gets lost, overtakes a German trench outposts, and becomes prey to an enemy worse than the “Huns” they’re there to fight.
It’s a fantastic cast with Jamie Bell playing a craven wank stain, Andy Serkis is a sadistic lunatic, and Hugo Speer is the stalwart sergeant trying to keep them all together through their supernatural demise.
There’s a beginner level amount of gore, and a satisfyingly fucked up ending the drives home the misery of war.
Have you seen it? What did you think?

Released October 17, 1997, this is basically a time capsule of '90s horror. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe, and a hook-wielding killer stalking them all. What's not to love?
I've always had a soft spot for this one, so I gave it a rewatch for today's October movie. It doesn't have the cleverness of Scream, but the creepy coastal setting, the cast, and that whole late-'90s atmosphere make it endlessly rewatchable for me. Plus, Sarah Michelle Gellar's chase scene is still one of my favorites.
Between Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, and the rest of the late-'90s slasher boom, which one do you like the most?

My precious post on anything comparing to a first watch of Sinister had a couple of frequent mentions! I'd watched Terrified as recommend and jumped, skipped, and hopped to get a 7 day free trial for Shudder to see what When Evil Lurks had jn store for me. PHENOMENAL!!! If you haven't seen it please do so!! The dread! The gobsmacking turns!! I clutched my pearls, covered my mouth, and had a hand to my chest in every southern lady mannerism of shock and awe The lore and story building!! It was gross and horrifying in the best way. How do you outrun evil? How do you outrun your own fear?I'll be turning this over for days and theorizing for months more. That and just sheer dread make a great film for me. I couldn't recommend it enough! I'll be eagerly on the lookout for works by Demián Rugna (and Argentinian horror)!
My only complaint is a couple times it felt a bit survival/apocalyptic horror as they ran around. That is a very very mild complaint because I love survival horror. The atmosphere remained amazing and the dread constant! I'd seen complaints that Pedro is an annoying protagonist, but if every protagonist was smart we wouldn't have great horror films. Next up is The Dark and The Wicked!!

Nosferatu (2024) I'm a huge fan of this gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really enjoyed this one. Thought it was a unique premise, and well paced. I am not clostrophobic, but this made me super nervous.

"You're a vampire, Michael! My own brother, a damn, blood-sucking vampire. You wait 'til Mom finds out, buddy!"
This is one of my all-time favorite not just horror but movies overall. It's such a classic.

I'm curious what everyone thinks about the upcoming Clayface movie. Are you expecting a genuinely disturbing body horror film, or something more in line with a typical DC movie?
Personally, I'm hoping they really lean into the body-horror elements and "gore". Kind of like The Substance (2024).
What are your expectations?

LAID TO REST
A young girl wakes up in a casket with a head injury and no memory of her identity. She quickly realizes she was abducted by a serial killer and she must fight to survive.
CHROMESKULL
Brings back ChromeSkull, who barely escaped death in the first movie and is hell-bent on continuing where he left off... and forging a new path of terror and destruction.

I have had a horror movie stuck in my head foe years I saw in childhood passing. It came out maybe early 2000s. All I remember was it had a group of young people (probably teens) in some town with woods. I remember that people started dispaearing and there was some threat ( maybe culty or witchy). In the end I know there is a giant chain found leading through the woods and the main character follows it and it leads to a basment/ cellar where a dead person or corpse is chain in a chair staring at the wall and she has to take her place as someone locks her in.
This haunts me that I cant find it and ive looked everywhere! Please help!!!

Personally, I’d have to go with My Bloody Valentine
The 1981 movie and 2009 release were both great in their own ways but imagine how great it’d be if it had its plot get used to its full potential with modern cgi/make-up

Is it just me or do others feel like movies 6 thru 8 you would of smelled Jason before he got you. I know parts 7 & 8 aren't the greatest but for 31 days every year I watch nothing but horror and decided this year to try and get through all 13 (I think 🤔) of them. But I cant stop thinking how awful he would smell in real life 🤣🤣
Am i weird or has anyone else ever thought this same thing?

You may have seen my previous post requesting a movie that left a similar first watch experience to Sinister. Terrified was a recommendation that delivered. A very different story and entity, but the dread and the atmosphere was glorious! It gave me traces of primordial fear, that I cannot explain!! I've got pattern recognition for plot lines down pat and some movies and shows can just feel monotonous to me, but I wasn't able to predict many of the next scenes or how the story would unravel. Plex has it for free subbed in English if you also want to watch. (Not sure if that's region specific, but it's also on Shudder) I went into it blind and really enjoyed it. Watching it alone and the dark is preferred! Unlocked a couple new fears, and I will be checking under the bed when I sleep!

There's a scene in The Killing of a Sacred Deer where Steven asks the school principal which of his two children is better. It sounds like a strange but fairly innocent question. Except we already know he's trying to decide which one of them he might sacrifice.
What makes it so disturbing is how calmly he approaches the situation, almost as if he's comparing their grades rather than deciding who should live or die. No violence, no screaming. Just a completely ordinary conversation made horrifying by what we know is going through his mind.

I knew about the project of course but I just saw the trailer and it gave me goosebumps! Silence of the Lambs meets Seven with a tad of Longlegs: shut up and take my money already! Great casting as well, Flanagan looks back on track after toning it down a bit for Carrie. Thoughts?

Are there horror any movies or scenes where a character keeps running in the same location in a continuous loop, as if they're trapped in a place they can never escape from? For example, the character runs away from a house, but no matter how far they run, they somehow end up back at the exact same house. I'm looking for scenes that use this concept of an impossible spatial loop, where the character desperately tries to escape but keeps returning to the same location, creating a sense of suspense, confusion, and psychological horror.
