Perhaps there's still something we don't fully understand about the balloon.

Man... This subreddit fascinates me, I just got into the game a few months ago when I finally bought a Switch to play the game, and watching people discover new things or find something interesting, just to see someone else in the replies saying this is genuinely fascinating to me. Here's hoping someone finds out more interesting stuff about the balloon, or possibly the torch or anything else in the airship causing this.

That's great! Welcome to TOTK. This is a good place to be. Will you be joining us on your own engineering journey? Lots of helpful people around - just ask if you need anything. I'm sure one of us will be trying to get to the bottom of this particular mystery - it's what we do here.

No idea to be honest, but could be useful!

Could be, if demystified.

Interesting, if you got on the steering stick and got off again, did this repeat?

It happened to me several times during the course of testing. The only way it would come back down, as far as I recall, was to reactivate the build. Oh, and another thing I remember is that it may have occurred after recalling the build once it started getting out of range (autopilot). I'll be doing more testing & try to observe things more closely.

Hmmm since it never happened until you changed the torch, Zelda's torch is probably the key. It could definitely have some interesting interactions we don't know about. I also see that the direction you're being pushed is the same direction as the wind. Maybe it's some kind of force amplification that increases both the balloon's lift and the wind's push? Very interesting, can't wait to find out more!

I'd say so. Also noted is the torch angle & the fact that it's glued directly to the balloon for whatever that's worth. I was thinking the same thing about the amplification theory.

Strange and curious; is this the first you’ve encountered the phenomenon? Is it reproducible?

Definitely the first I've experienced of it. Not sure if it can be reproduced - been too busy deep into other stuff & haven't had time to check. It did happen to me at least twice during testing.

Here's the QR I was working with for anyone who wants to investigate this phenomenon.

You are applying constant hot air to a hot air balloon. It Is a good physics engine in game. Granted, I did expect it to drop when you got back on it, but it had stored energy. Ive seen the game calculate that out in small amounts like that. I'm not surprised. I do not think it's a glitch. Change the angle of the torch back. It'll behave as you prefer. Really cool experiment, though! Even if it's only carrying the zeros!

There's definitely something happening here. The airship drops 99,999/100,000 times (1 being this time) based on my experience, which is ample. I have changed the angle to fully upright and experienced very similar phenomenon.
