It's so funny how in season 2 Frank talked about how disgusting incest is, yet the second they learned they weren't related by blood he just doesn't give a shit and starts doing/suggesting sexual shit around his kids.
-Pimps Dennis out
-Attends an orgy with Dennis
-Fakes being in a relationship with and marries Dee
-Has a foursome with Charlie (who he might be biologically related to)
-Runs around the sewers naked with Charlie
-Spies on Charlie while masturbating
-Wedgies Dee so badly it rips her asshole
-Has sex with a doll of Dennis along with Charlie while Dee watches
-Wants to play a game involving jerking off and eating semen with his son
-Proceeds to jerk off into his daugther's food expecting her to eat it
And in this episode he even talks about how Dennis was as a kid when he raised him so there's not even that wall of not thinking of them as his kids.

Im a lot like Dennis in this episode. I was never very wild as a kid and now, as an adult, I wish I had been.
But then again, its not like Dennis doesnt get up to crazy stuff, he gets re-addicted to crack like every other week and breaks into peoples houses and starts door to door gasolene businesses and stuff. Weird that its only in the context of a sleepover that he gets cold feet.
→ More replies (2)12
u/DevilFixer 2d ago
Dennis is a control freak, and a sleepover strips him of his control and makes him feel vulnerable and exposed. He can scheme and run gambits so long as he can help control them, that's why he will rarely assist the gang in their more personal endeavors which is the typical setup for the dual plot episodes where the gang splits up.

Charlie really is the closest to every member of the gang if you think about it. This episode highlights it with Dennis. The flashback scene in the train tracks in the Christmas special with Mac as well as their other ventures. Charlie and Frank have bonded since day 1. And Charlie and Dee banged.
Charlie really is the glue that holds them together.
42
u/feedback37376363636 4d ago
It's kinda tragic that he holds them together since I think he would be wayyy better off without them

I actually really liked how Artemis, as soon as Dee told her she was blind/couldn't see, dropped her plans and came over to help Dee. Artemis is a real one.
Also, very wholesome Charlie and Dennis bonding

When I was like 14, me and 2 other friends threw snowballs at a Honda Civic coming down my street, and dude got so mad that he floored it in reverse and slammed into a tree (the backside/trunk of his car) and it was destroyed. We spent hours evading him as well as cop cars, since we would've been caught since it was after curfew.
This, along with Bloody Mary brought me back to my younger years, and these guys are 20+ years older than me.
(The snowballs were soft and only hit the roof of his car, so we didn't impare his vision)
Edit to add- this took place in South Philly, very close to where Paddys is supposed to be located. I LOVED this episode so so much!

It's morbid but I kinda hope they have taped an episode about Frank's death that they're keeping in the back pocket for when Danny does inevitably pass, and it's super feels-y and emotional but then Frank comes bursting out of the coffin, declares 'Got ya Suckas! I'm off to live in the Bahamas! and the gang is left standing there in mute shock.
Then instead of the credits we get a video of Danny/Frank partying it up on an island, doing rails off of hoores asscheeks, scarfing burgers bigger than his mouth, and some combination of debauchery has him choking, keeling over, and then he burps it up and is fine and keeps going.

the thing is, everyone wants the show to end of a low note because it’s what the characters deserve, but i just don’t see it happening. i genuinely think it will end on a heartwarming way - they will still end up fucking everyone they’ve ever known over - but they will be happy. and i think that’s what the show has always been about to be honest. despite how awful they are to people, they always end up on top

The characters were portrayed well. Dennis didn’t have to be full sociopath, Charlie didn’t have to be the dumbest guy on earth. Mac was back to talking about using his non-existent fighting abilities. Dee could have been slotted into any season. Frank was the only completely unhinged one 😂

Since his mental health day, Dennis has been refreshingly calm. I think the only time we got a loud outburst from him in the last 2 seasons was The Gang Gets Ready for Primetime when he does his monologue. Like he really took the doctor's warning to heart.

To be honest, I only see two ways the show ends: something like this where “and then it just sort of ends.” Or they literally do the Seinfeld where they bring back all of the guest stars they’ve fucked over for a trial while they wink and nod like “this is just Seinfeld, isn’t it?” Pay off to all of the “Seinfeld on crack” stuff.
32
u/pullingteeths 4d ago
They can't do that because Curb Your Enthusiasm already did it (repeated the Seinfeld ending in its finale a couple years ago). I would imagine they're capable of coming up with an ending that isn't as unoriginal as humanly possible

The show is far from its heyday, but still produces a few episodes a season that are batshit crazy, fucked up, seriously evil or some combination of the three. I loved that, but it was Dennis's line that hit me hardest.
"When you're a kid, dares are like the scariest thing. But when you're an adult, the truth is so much scarier."
I feel like if someone had only seen a couple random mid-season episodes of this show, it'd be their last guess where this relatable-ass line came from. Likewise, if you told them the line without telling them what show it's from, they probably wouldn't guess that a guy falls several stories into a dumpster screaming the word "spaghetti" like ten seconds later.

The scene on the rooftop between Dennis and Charlie was so trippy. It felt like a different show (including the way it was shot). I feel like that was the first time we saw Dennis be genuinely vulnerable (without a comedic beat attached to it, like his Dracula monologue). And Charlie coherently and maturely reassuring Dennis? It was so jarring to see these fundamentally broken and amoral characters, characters who are especially at their worst when it comes to having healthy relationships, not just show love and friendship to each other, but show it in a healthy way---and for the show to do it without any irony. I thought when they fell off the roof that Charlie pushed Dennis and it would smash cut to Dennis in a full body cast in the hospital, which would've been classic Sunny too, but continuing the suddenly earnest tone and having them howl was a striking choice for this show. 10/10 episode, even if the Dee subplot wasn't anything special (I'm kinda sick of seeing the Waitress lol)
