The "watching other people be great is for losers" argument is especially funny considering "watching people do incredible shit" is one of humanity's longest-running traditions and applies to literally every endeavor that requires skill beyond what "normal" folks possess. Oh you like that musician? Wow you're such a loser for appreciating their greatness and talent

Oh, so you waste time and effort flexing your diaphragm so oxygen in the air enters your nasal passages and goes into your lungs where it's absorbed through the alveoli and sent into your bloodstream from whence it circulates to all parts of your flesh and organs thus keeping the cells alive for one more minute of pointless existence? The vast majority of sports teams win nothing and yet people watch. Maybe they just enjoy it

I was over thirty before i ever saw a single one of my teams (in any sport) progress in the playoffs and yet i still love it. Its fun and at the end of the day that's all it really needs to be

what kind of community was it tho? i only ask because i once saw it in the wild in the teachers sub, the poster couldn't understand why she got like ejected from a faculty meeting just for explaining why sportsball was the least important thing akshully, and i made the mistake of replying that maybe saying the term "sportsball" around those involved in athletics could be perceived as derogatory and she deleted the post immediately. it blows my mind at how unaware they are that this is actually a minority opinion the echo chambers are so strong. they adopt a tone like a racist to virtue-signal their wisdom

Without naming the actual sub, it was one of those that reposts videos found across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. So, not one dedicated to a specific niche or hobby.
