OC [OC] Tired to make it obvious that I could squeeze through if they gave me space…
635
u/Mumei451 1d ago
Zero sense, just driving their huge truck right down the middle of the road.
Not sure how this is two lanes and parking spaces but there's still like 3 feet of space for the truck to move over.
114
u/WastingTimeIGuess 1d ago
They have no idea where the right hand side of their truck is.
23
u/idontremembermyoldus 12h ago
Or the front, as evidenced by their fucked up bumper and crooked plate.
73
u/innociv 1d ago
It's not 2 lanes. Notice how every car is pointing the same way as OP. I'd have called the police I don't know why OP backed up.
37
u/Weareallgoo 1d ago edited 1d ago
It is actually a 2-way street. Lot’s of comments here that are r/confidentlyincorrect
23
u/cereal7802 23h ago
OP confirmed it was 2 way.

They would not.
But they would have made a fantasy in their head about doing it. And maybe posted on Reddit about it too (those stories that end with everyone clapping)
-14
u/innociv 1d ago
... yes? They refused to back up while going down the wrong way. Who knows what is wrong with them for doing this, and what else they'll do. If there's people behind OP, they're blocked in and falsely imprisoned.
Like if someone is blocking your driveway with a vehicle, sure you call a tow truck. But if they're doing that while in their vehicle and actively refuse to move, you call the police. This is a similar situation.
9
u/strangeMeursault2 1d ago
As dumb as this comment is it's actually a fun reminder that there's case law on whether blocking a path in one direction is false imprisonment.
Bird v. Jones from 1845 is a UK case on this issue where a footpath on a bridge was blocked and the Bird sued for false imprisonment and unsurprisingly lost.
False imprisonment requires complete containment not just inconvenience. Even if this was a one way street the cam driver can always get out of their car and walk in any direction.

u/TacosAndBourbon 1d ago
Based on the direction of the parked vehicles, the width of the road, and the lack of a center lane - I wouldn't be surprised if this is a one-way side street.
If the truck driver wants to call attention, that's fine. They're also pointed in the wrong direction.
303
u/YetiNotForgeti 1d ago
Also the truck isn't using their lane efficiently. Why drive big if you cannot drive well?
260
u/TheDonutPug 1d ago
not being able to drive well is basically a pre-requisite for buying one.
33
u/lordvadr 22h ago
Hey, as an F250 owner, who is perfectly satisfied with the size of his penis, I do my best to be courteous and friendly on the road.
41
u/Cerus_Freedom 21h ago
F250 owners, if the vehicle is at least mostly stock, don't really stand out as the typical offender to me. Probably because it's one of the most common vehicles on the road here.
My rules for being little extra cautious around trucks: White trucks, red trucks, modified trucks. Dodge trucks of any flavor are basically a red alert, stay as far away as possible.
4
u/Kscarpetta 14h ago
Lol my stepdad has a maroon 2500. We live on a very narrow road, one person has to drop off the side sometimes.
He's actually a good driver and knows how to drive properly. He was a school bus driver for awhile.

u/YetiNotForgeti 21h ago
I have a 3500 and I know how to drive it. Sometimes I realize the curb is a suggestion when it clear that nothing is buried beneath it.

Happened to me at a Costco gas pump, busy with big lines and it was my turn. Parked at the pump and the lady in a big truck behind me was flipping me off and yelling because she didn’t want to drive her big truck around my car to the pump in front and would rather have me hold up the line for both cars to finish. I ignored her and started pumping. Costco employee even came over to calm her down and told her I’m following policy. As she was passing me, she screamed a racial profanity so I told the Costco employee who banned her membership on the spot.

I would have never thought about needing to look both ways crossing a one way street until I bought a house on a one way. The amount of people who disregard it are amazing and then there are the people who go faster and blow through the intersection cause there isn't a stop sign facing the direction that they aren't supposed to be going in the first place.
64
u/Dexion1619 1d ago
Not only that... they are in a Truck... If its that important they can go over the curb in the Pavement Princess.
20
u/WiretapStudios 23h ago
Yeah. I had a older SUV for a long time, just pop the curb. It's literally one of the easiest perks to cash in from having some ground clearance.

The yellow curb on the left means it is a one way street. At least in the United States, you should never see yellow lane markings on your right, unless you are in the center lane.
19
u/Altruistic-Sea797 1d ago
The yellow just means no parking on that side. It's not a lane marking.
6
u/inn0cent-bystander 15h ago
The us is basically 50 different countries, each with their own sets of laws and standards, that also share another set between them all. There's likely one or more places for each of those scenarios, also some that may use white, or red for the same thing, and some where that doesn't mean shit and it's supposed to have signage.
97
u/HobbesNJ 1d ago
Then you'd get a Seinfeld situation where George and the other guy spent all day half-parked in a space on the street.

OP you need to add an edit to let people know if this is a one way or two way road.
48
u/Few_Reception_1155 1d ago
It’s actually a two-way road. I’m not sure how to edit the post. Tried to find the edit post button but couldn’t find it. It’s my first post apologies for my rookieness

u/HobbesNJ 1d ago edited 1d ago
And if it isn't, then it actually made sense for OP to back off, since they could have pulled to the side before they hit the line of cars, since the truck was already coming into view. Neither would have the default right-of-way.

u/jazetod 1d ago

Sure it's the other person who's the idiot, but staring at an idiot who's not going to move for eternity isn't my idea of fun. When it becomes obvious that by far the quickest way to get where I'm going is to move out of the way, I'll move out of the way.

You could literally fit a truck in that gap. They clearly can't drive the vehicle to they are operating

14
u/Too-low-420 1d ago
Right when I had a truck, I couldn’t count how many times I would hop curb because some stupid motherfucker mostly the ones that take up two lanes instead of just one when you’re trying to make a right and they’re making the left but I live in St. Louis so there’s plenty of dumb people out here

I would assume that's probably her husband's truck and she's probably not used to driving it so she's unsure of how wide she is/isn't.
But like someone else pointed out, if only her vehicle was specifically designed for light off-road use like hopping a short curb

My neighborhood is all street parking and the amount of people in mid-size and small sedans who swing wide into the other lane or stop waiting to do so when they don’t need to is maddening. People really are completely unaware of the size of their vehicle.

u/AutotoxicFiend 1d ago
In that big ass truck, just go up on the curb. What the fuck do theae people buy these massive trucks for?
33
u/Manunancy 15h ago
A significant share is because they're scared of the huge SUV/trucks rolling around and buy one to feel safe - making it a bit of a self-reinforcing problem. Doubly so as there's a big overlap between scared and poor driver.
4
u/Wise_Blackberry_1154 14h ago
Whatever, I bought my truck, because it made my job a lot more easier. Then I fell in love with it. It's been 45 years, I will always have a pick up. We have property, it's very helpful. Comfortable, plenty of power. It is our road trip vehicle. 55 years of driving, never had a single ticket, accident or road rage incident. It's NOT to feel safe, I just like it. And I would have hopped the curb here.
7
1
u/AutotoxicFiend 10h ago
I know, not to mention they become a fucking huge liability to other drivers.
26
39
u/PersonalSloth 23h ago
Because they’re bad drivers and feel safer in these giant vehicles, seriously.
1
u/AutotoxicFiend 10h ago
And in turn become far more dangerous to everyone else on the road with them.

u/Fuzzy_Technology_861 1d ago
Probably to feel like the bigger 🍆’d person on the road and be a douche lmfao.
2
1
u/Unhappy-Giraffe2792 11h ago
It’s “safer” in an inevitable collision. But their drivers have no spatial awareness, apparently.
122
u/Andrey2790 1d ago
Next time put it in park and wait them out.
75
u/sun4moon 1d ago
I have a book in my car for a similar reason. If someone honks while I’m leaving a parking spot I suddenly have a ton of time to kill and a book I just can’t put down.
29
u/j_johnso 1d ago
There's an old joke about two stubborn guys who met at a one lane bridge, with both refusing to back up and let the other one go. One guy pulled out a book and started reading. The second guy got out of his car, walked up to the guy reading the book, and asked, "When you are finished reading that book, can I borrow it?"

14
u/Weareallgoo 1d ago edited 1d ago

2
u/Byte_Fantail 17h ago
so then the truck driver is the idiot, it was hard to tell there's no road markings
5
u/CraigJay 16h ago
No, usually it is the person with the obstruction on their side who waits for the other to pass
4
u/berntout 12h ago
The answer here is that this road is terribly designed. Whoever designed this road should be blamed.
Neither direction can see traffic in the other direction until they're already in the area with parking. It's like parking was allowed but not planned for properly.
169
u/KnittyBeard 1d ago
I'm always shocked at how many people have no idea where their wheels are, but it's especially bad with pickup drivers. Way too many seem to think their big-ass truck is twice as wide as it really is.
18
16
u/FVTVRX 1d ago
This problem is vehicle-style agnostic. Ive seen bad drivers in vehicles of all sizes that have zero spatial awareness. I agree it gets amplified with the size of the vehicle, but its also crazy to see someone have this issue in a car. Acting like they in a boat
6
u/holyfire001202 1d ago
Oddly enough, my perception of the width of a vehicle becomes more inaccurate the smaleller the vehicle gets. Put me in a 16 foot box truck? I'm pulling into a parking space in reverse and I'll be in between both lines. XL Amazon van? I've quickly parallel parked into spaces that took me 8 minutes to figure out how to get out of. 4 years with my little Kia Spectra and I'm still never quite certain.
Edit: Typo. Also, I do presume that it has something to do with the shape of the vehicle and sitting high enough to really see everything around me.
1
u/Shantotto11 23h ago
Right?! Like, I have to deal with that nonsense with sedans and compacts.
Is it not common knowledge that the mirrors are the furthest point from the center of most if not every vehicle?
10
u/ipokesnails 1d ago
And then people with low profile tires think their cars are narrower than reality, resulting in tons of newer cars with loads of curb rash.
24
u/willmaineskier 1d ago
The taller the vehicle the harder it is to tell where the sides are. My wife and I noticed it was harder to figure out where the sides are on her Crosstrek versus her previous Impreza. A truck is a lot taller than that.
1
u/Certain_Concept 1d ago
To be fair, trucks at this point seem to be intentionally designed to have as many blind spots as possible.
20
u/lesserDaemonprince 15h ago
Lots of people want to be in or end up in vehicles too big for their driving ability. If you can't be bothered to familiarize yourself with where your vehicle begins and ends while sitting inside of it, you shouldn't be driving it.
9
u/chystatrsoup 11h ago
Make way THIS THINGS A BOAT. I've driven an actual truck through my city countless times. Your shit isn't even that big and you can't get closer than 6 feet to the curb, get a sedan.
Also shout-out to all the people too scared to drive close to the line of parked cars so they encroach the opposing lane when there's oncoming traffic. So insecure in their ability to judge the space on their right that they're willing to risk a head on collision. Y'all are literally the dumbest people on the planet.
Actually one more thing: if there is enough space for two cars abreast, I'm not stopping. If you aren't comfortable with that, it's up to you to stop before the choke point. I am under no obligation to stop early because you have absolutely no grasp on the width of your own vehicle
1
u/Heterodynist 10h ago
It’s hard to imagine any way I could agree more with what you’re saying. I’m getting incredibly tired of people who treat roads as if they are one lane when they are two, and also people who think their vehicle is about 4 feet wider than it actually is. Many people who drive trucks are convinced that their vehicle is unable to exist without a buffer space around it that amounts to an entire second automobile. This explains how they can justify taking up two parking spaces when they park. They think their truck is literally a naval vessel of some sort. It’s like they are driving the platform that they launched space shuttles off of. They act like it’s somehow an impossible proposition for you to expect them to actually take up one lane, when -in their minds- their truck is about 16 feet wide and 30 feet long.
21
u/Heterodynist 10h ago
You have to question the brain on some people. This aggressive stop-and-stare technique some people have for life has always shocked me. A lot of drivers follow the policy of just jamming their car into your way and then staring at you as if it’s your fault they just drove down a one way street the wrong way, or blocked your driveway. I don’t know where these recalcitrantly blockheaded people come from, but it’s almost like the existence of cars created them. They spring out of the clay like spontaneous generation of fruit flies. If you build giant trucks that are two stories high, idiots just appear out of the ether to drive them. It’s almost like you can’t build an enormous truck that won’t immediately have an idiot behind the wheel as soon as it’s done.
1
u/Typ0r8r 7h ago
I stop and stare only when stopping at a 4 way stop and the person who's turn it is is waving for me to go even tho it's been their turn for the few seconds it took me to look at them. I just stare with no expression until they go. Just take your turn and stop wasting everyone's time.

Lived on a narrow street in college. Two cars could squeeze by each other with 1 foot clearance on either side.
Onetime this lady was driving at me full and I said oh fuck I don’t think she’s looking because she was in the middle of the road.
I pulled over as far as I could. My mirror touching the parked car on my right. Just as I come to a full stop her mirror slammed into my mirror. She slams on her brakes.
We both get out and she immediately starts yelling at me. I say “look at my car.” Point to my mirror touching the parked car. Now look at your car. 3 feet from the parked car on her right.
My mirror appears to be fine, so if you want to apologize I’ll be on my way. She immediately apologized and I got back in my car and drove away while she looked at her fucked up mirror.

This is literally my biggest pet peeve driving around our neighborhood. We have normal width roads and 50% of the time when someone's parked on one side and myself and another car are going to pass at the same time, the other car will inevitably come to a stop before the parked car and wait for me to go through first, despite there being ample space for both cars to fit.
Like, it doesn't hurt anyone, but it makes me so worried at how many people simply don't understand the physical space their 1+ ton death machine takes up.

u/ozzielot 18h ago
Instead of checking for traffic you just roll in there and then blame the pickup driver for being inconsiderate.

The average pickup truck and SUV driver thinks their car is significantly wider than it actually is. I’ve almost gotten into multiple front end collisions due to this exact situation in the video but at higher speed (and wider road)
