Discussion What the hell, the Black Science Hardcover paper quality is so good.
Currently reading Black Science. Story is good so far (I'm one issue in). Art is fantastic and absolutely deserves the bigger-than-OHC format. But wow, the paper quality of this thing is insane! Definitely the most premium-feeling pages I've read so far, and I've read a lot of Image deluxes. They're so thick I had to check if I flipped multiple pages. Going from the Invincible Library Editions to this felt so jarring. Do all Remender deluxes use the same paper?

Haven't started this one yet, but one of the rare times I did judge a book on it's cover, and nabbed it

I thought book one was alright, and I couldn’t get hooked on the second omnibus. The art is amazing, but the story was lackluster. I sold all 3 omnibus’s.
Seven to Eternity and Tokyo Ghost were written better, and had much better stories in my opinion.
Please don’t downvote me into oblivion lol…

I get so many mixed reviews on Remenders work- I liked seven to eternity and loved Tokyo ghost. How does this compare?

I read the whole series as it came out monthly
It’s one of Reminders best works ever

Some clunky dialogue, but ultimately still a fantastic read. Gets weird (complimentary).

I've only read LOW and Sacrificers and I think his stuff rocks. Eager to check out his other stuff.

Wasn’t the deluxes image prints supposed to have good quality? Don’t understand your surprise OP.

Like I said, paper quality is superior to all other Image deluxes that I've read.

I think I’ve got around 15 deluxes and the paper feels the same imo 😅

No way, it's definitely thicker! Man, you made me go up and check on my books to see if I'm tripping or what.
I'm not crazy, right? Anyone? Please?

I've got Deadly Class and the pages there are very thick too. Remender takes care to make his hardcovers good (and then gloats on twitter about how they're as good as DC Absolute Editions for a fraction of the price lol. Can't blame him tbf).

Damn, I saw this going for just $25 at Second and Charles. Nearly picked one up myself!

The price-to-quality is too good. These big Remender books (at least those still in print) sometimes go for €20-€25 here in Europe which is pretty crazy for what they are and, well, Europe.

Remender doesn’t skimp on quality

Awesome. Almost makes me want to have all of his hardcovers.

Whatever you do.. do NOT look up his Fear Agent Opeña Variant hardcovers…(they’re the singular sexiest oversized HCs in existence in my opinion)

The reprint covers are so good. I have all first prints and when they came out with that cover my SO joked that I'd have to buy it again.

I’m so glad I bought these. I hadn’t read it before. The art and colors are so awesome and bold in the oversized format.

Black science seriously has a perfect deluxe edition. It blew my mind how large it was(these things tower over my faithless slipcase), and like you say that paper quality is top notch. They put out all the stops and it really shows!

Remender's Giant Generator hardcovers are GIGANTIC. A bit over an inch taller than most other Image hardcovers.

It's seemingly going to be three of these in the end?

Very nice.
Can I ask how the deadly class deluxe compares if anyone has them? Got the first 3 volumes for approx £50

I've got volume 1 (first printing) and the build quality is great.

u/Cool-Reputation-3841 Apr 22 '26
Thanks great to know, I'm not sure which printing tbh. Volume 1 arrives tomorrow, would it be indicated inside the book which printing it is?

Just to be clear I've got Deadly Class in case it's ambiguous haha. I think that's only had 2 or maybe 3 printings IIRC. You can see the edition/printing on one of the first pages that has all the small text about the book.
Rick Remender doesn't mess around with the hardcovers. I'm sure it'll still be good.
The first Black Science hardcover actually had issues due to them having to scrap and redo the book on short notice at a different printer IIRC and it ended up having really poor binding. They fixed it fairly quickly after that though.

Thanks for clarifying. Yeh I meant deadly class too, but I also have black science deluxe edition on my shelf but now I'm hoping it's not first edition! ( still in shrink wrap)

Sometimes I thought I was flipping two pages at once lol. I just grabbed all 3 hardcovers and loving it so far. The art and colors are amazing.

Image gives creators a lot of control over print materials used. Rick and Matteo probably sprung for the good stuff.
