While not all of these books interest me personally, just the variety of them shows that present day Image is on fire.

Yeah! I had a lull in my Image buying in the early 2020s (Krakoa X-Men was taking a lot of my cash). Now I'm back full throttle with Image and other non-Big Two publishers.

It absolutely is, image is consistently in my pull box

I don't collect monthly issues but many of their hardcover editions are a must buy for me. Not only are they great reads but the quality of the books are amazing for what they cost.

Agreed, Image books typically are high quality materials.

Last driver was so good! And Sunday I'm gonna get to meet Sean and get it signed!

Last Driver had me smiling ear to ear reading it. Love the idea, and the unique reading format made it fun too.

Sean Murphy drawing cars in a dystopian future setting?? Yes. All the yes.

Great pull list! Hammerfist and If Destruction Be Our Lot can be book of the year candidates.

Chachu is so good and only 1 issue in, I’m very excited to read the rest of the run

Last driver issue 1 was dope as hell

Last Driver was another one I was on the fence about based on the short description and preview cover image, but then I was shocked by the horizontal format and the story and incredibly detailed art won me over!

I still need Death Vigil too. LOVE that Cover. As a fellow Croat I need to support Stjepan Sejic

I’m excited to dive into it. Finished a reread of the original series earlier this week.

Do you need to read the original series to understand this?

2

u/Outrageous_Potato435 Aug 29 '26

I don’t think so. I haven’t either but the premise sounded pretty straight foward. Plus, I mean, when it comes to comics you never need to know of any previous series. They’re written so you can jump in as a new reader

I’m enjoying M1 much more than I thought I would. Hope it sticks around. And Corpse Knight has had its stumbles, but the latest issue was a banger.

My biggest complaint with Corpse Knight is that at 10pts, it’s really just a preview, barely 1/2 a book. Loving the art and the concept is great, as you mentioned the execution of the story has been a little hit and miss, but I’m definitely here for the full run (looking forward to reading the newest issue tonight.)

I slept on Chachu but found a shop that had a few copies this week. The Last Driver was pretty clever. I would add Regicide to badass Image books of the month !

Hell yea! How is white Sky? I dropped it after 4, but I’m still curious.

I'm still with the world building. Slow burn books don't bother me much. It gives just enough each issue to keep me coming back. I don't know how long it's going to be, but I'll give it two arcs.

Chachu and Hammerfist are both awesome

I recently tried three of those series and could only get into one of them. Meanwhile, Image has dropped a series that I really like (Nights). Anytime Nights is in my pulls it’s one of the first things I read when I get back home with my comics! In terms of what I’m looking for I think other indies are actually overtaking Image.

Nothing wrong with looking for what interests you. I’ve recently started digging into Massive Indies solicitations looking for diamonds in the rough.

How is M1? Thought of picking it up but the dude at my LCS had no input on it so I wasn’t sure if it was worth it

Art and paneling are pretty great, but it is an extremely plot and story light. Probably one of the most minimal comics I've read in a while (and the plot itself is not particularly unique either). In all honesty, it's essentially a glorified art book. I'm pulling it because I quite like the art, but just keep that in mind if you are interested.

2

u/JuvenJapal Aug 28 '26

I'm enjoying it, though I wish Jae Lee spent some time on filling in the backgrounds on many of his panels or at least hired someone else to do it. Story is fine. Young people in Japan street racing, one of which is an American girl dragged there by her father. She deploys her fantastic skills on the street racing circuit until monsters get involved.

2

u/Sleep_When_Dead Aug 30 '26

I’ve thought this same thing SO many times. The minimal storytelling is accentuated by there rarely ever being any backgrounds in the panels. There’s a lack of atmosphere that would add so much depth. Especially since there’s so much opportunity for it

2

u/DrTechPop Aug 28 '26

I went back and forth on whether to add to my pull list, but when I held it and flipped through it at my LCS I was hooked by the art alone. The story is basic and overly simple but feasting on Jim Lee’s art has made it a monthly pull for me.

2

u/outaboredomm Aug 28 '26

And with that it has been added to my pull list, how many issues in is it?

1

u/DrTechPop Aug 28 '26

🙌 nice, hope you enjoy it. # 3 just came out a week ago Wed. Apparently it is planned for 40 issues, so there is plenty of room for the story to mature and grow but this is a visual medium and like I said Jim Lee’s art is enough to hold me here! Lots of serious anime vibes. I’ll be interested to hear your take once you dive in. You should be able to still get #2 & #3 (maybe even #1 depending on your LCS stock) still on the shelves.

1

u/MrSuitMan Aug 28 '26

I'd like to know where you got that information, but there's no fucking way M1 is gonna last over 8 issues, let along 40.

Just what the creative team says, maybe you know something they don’t:

Idk if Jae Lee is exaggerating or just being cheeky and hopeful, but 40 issues is freaking insane for what this title is. Like, I like what I've read so far, but in all honesty I'll probably drop it soon. There's just not a lot of meat here. So many other titles have done so much more and still had a short shelf life. There's just no way what is essentially a glorified art book will make it to 40 issues. I'd like to eat my words, but this is such an unbelievable call out

1

u/MercTas Aug 28 '26

Is the new Death Vigil newcomer friendly? I was gonna pick it up unaware there was some before it so I held off.

2

u/JuvenJapal Aug 28 '26

I haven't read it yet but reread the original recently to get reacquainted with the characters. I'm glad I did as there were a couple of open plot threads, and that series ended well over a decade ago. You can always pick up the first issue of the new series and if you're lost, track down the original series.

1

u/z_dogwatch Aug 28 '26

Death Vigil surprised me. I enjoyed it a lot. I know nothing about it but was quick to add the rest to my pull list.

1

u/edboyinthecut Aug 28 '26

I wanted to like M1, the art is amazing buy the story is just meh

1

u/Fvtvrewave87 Aug 29 '26

The Last Driver is a fucking banger

1

u/would_do_again Aug 29 '26

Not seeing a lot of Cover As for this month’s Ghost Pepper. Was there an issue with the print or something?

1

u/JuvenJapal Aug 29 '26

Not that I’m aware of. I figured most would go for the Ito cover since his ratio for issue two was a banger.

1

u/Sleep_When_Dead Aug 30 '26

I’ve enjoyed Ghost Pepper (even though while art is incredible, the whole thing has been tough to follow) and Corpse Knight, been surprised by M1, and Last Driver is everything I want from Sean Murphy. It’s great.

I grabbed Death Vigil and it seems fun but I think I’m just going to wait till the trade. I didn’t know it was a continuation from a previous series.

I’m obsessed with Remender’s stuff but I’m waiting on reviews for Hammerfist before I tackle that one. Seems… meh?

Trade-waiting on more of these titles
