Comic East of West arrived early!!!
Like the title says, another fat boy has arrived!!!
Surprisingly to me, EoW is not as thick as D+W. Thought EoW was thicker actually. Bad Memory? Mixing up page counts? Probably a combo of both lol
EoW page count: 1320
W+D: 1448
W+D must have the 6 specials included, which I was unaware of till now… yay! haha
The last 2 pics are comparison shots of a DoT deluxe hardcover, D+W, and EoW. DoT is taller and wider (cover side) than the others. EoW and D+W are the same height, but EoW is slightly wider (cover) than D+W. All my other Image compendiums are the same height and depth (cover side) as D+W 🤷🏻♂️ friggin Hickman lol

I read EoW compendium and had no issues. My copy is still in great condition with one small crease. They seem to have used the appropriate glue/material to allow frequent flexing when reading. Just don’t bend it aggressively and it should last as long as most trades I suspect

They're so affordable, I really don't care. They are reading copies, not collectables.

Depending on how much I fall in love with it, if I read it once a year or every other (if that) I’m at least hoping it lasts the rest of my life lol

Nice! Yeah EoW was already past where I was comfortable with compendiums but I had to take the splash that way because of the price. WicDiv was just too big so I grabbed the trades.

I hear ya. The price point is just so good tho. Got W+D for around $30. I’ll do my best to take care of it 🫡

It’s definitely being layed down on a pillow while I’m chilling on the couch type deal. Hell, even the DoT hardcovers hurt my wrists if I try to read them before bed lol

How’s the gutter loss with these huge volumes? I’m keen to get hold of EofW, but can’t find the trades in any LCS near me, so maybe a compendium is gonna be the only way, but worried they’ll be too unwieldy to actually read, plus whether you can see the whole page due to gutter loss.

Just did a decent perusal of both, and to me, gutter loss is pretty much non existent. Particularly with EoW. Idk if it was Hickman’s decision or the artist or whoever, but there’s a white border around every page I saw. Which explains why in the comparison pics, EoW is all white and the others look like sedimentary cross sections lol So the panels in EoW aren’t effected at all!
As far as reading these hulking behemoths, I’m planning on laying these motherfuckers on a pillow while I read em lol I’ve thought about getting a pillow desk, but honestly, one of the accent pillows that came with my couch should do the job just fine. Bonus, it’ll save me money and I can buy another compendium 😂

Haven’t read it yet. years ago I read the first 3-4 issues and was into it. The series gets recommended a lot in all the comic subs I’m in.
Got it for $40 off amazon. Had to grab it, because it wasn’t available a few months ago. Look around. If you find I good deal, scoop it up. If you don’t like it, resell it 🫡

Not sure. Read a few issues when it was coming out, but don’t remember them anymore lol and haven’t cracked the compendium yet.
I think this is a really good question for the sub. You should post it. I’m now curious what the answer will be too 🫡
