Absolute Captain America β Big change: Steve was born in the modern day.Β
Steve Rogers was just a liberal arts student whose politics were shaped by his diverse peers, his disabilities, and the worryingly fascistic trends of the modern US government. One day, as his medical conditions worsened, Alchemax Genetics selected him to take part in a charitable, all-expense-paid gene therapy program.Β
The therapy would be a greater success than he even dreamed of, not only curing his disorders, but enhancing his mind and body to superhuman levels. However, an anarchistic hacker called the Fl@g_Smasher, would contact Steve and tell him the truth about the program β Alchemax didnβt just give him retroviral therapy, they implanted into him a fully tailored artificial chromosome loaded with enhancing genes and alleles, as part of a huge military contract to deregulate the biotech industry and make genetically engineered super-soldiers, with Steve (chosen purely for his ethnicity, blond hair, and blue eyes) planned to be their flagship product β βCaptain America.β Steve breaks out of Alchemaxβs hospital, but not before stealing a prototype metamaterial shield, intending to make the identity his own.Β
Meanwhile, for Alchemax, their Captain America going rogue was a colossal failure, and their liaison within the Pentagon orders the project terminated; the other super-soldiers β Priscilla Lyons, Cathy Webster, John Walker, Sharon Carter, and Frank Simpson β are either liquidated or tasked with taking down Steve. Additionally, everyone involved concluded that giving permanent enhancements to soldiers was a terrible idea, and scaled the project back to either minimal enhancements or temporary gene doping using colored nanoparticle drugs.Β
With the help of the Fl@g_Smasher, Steve tries to unearth a massive conspiracy within the biotech industry and the military-industrial complex, which leads back to a corrupt president, Walter Declun, a corrupt senator, William Burnside, a fascist political advisor, Adam Hauser, and an enigmatic Argentinian financier, Juan Schmidt.
