Reminds me of a Sci-Fi idea I had. Humanity needed to leave Earth and couldn't fit everyone inside a spaceship or on a sphere so they solved the surface area problem by making a moon that looked like this on the inside. Like a fractal or ball of steel wool in a bubble. Towards the outside the air was thin, cold and dangerous. At the center the engines were hot and radioactive. The middle was peaceful but exploring the edges had adventure
