Hey everyone!
Steam Next Fest starts today, and I've just uploaded an updated demo of Sellsword, a fantasy sandbox RPG I've been working on.
The idea is pretty simple. You're not some chosen hero destined to save the world. You're just a mercenary trying to survive and make a name for yourself in a world where different kingdoms and factions are constantly fighting for power.
You start by developing your own build, whether you prefer melee combat, ranged weapons, or a mix of both. From there, you're free to explore a large interconnected world, travel between settlements, take contracts from local lords and factions, fight bandits and creatures, and explore caves, ruins, and dungeons looking for loot.
One of the main things I'm trying to achieve is making every playthrough feel like a different story.
There's a main storyline to follow, but also procedural quests and different factions you can work for. You can build your reputation, choose who to support, or simply wander around taking jobs and trying to stay alive.
Death is also a big part of the game. It's pretty easy to get yourself killed if you're not careful, and everything you do during your adventure is recorded in a journal. The idea is that when your character eventually dies, you'll have a chronicle of their life, including the places they visited, the people they met, and everything they managed to accomplish.
About the demo:
The current demo starts in Lake Town, a small settlement where you'll meet the local elder and take on a series of quests that lead you through the surrounding wilderness and eventually into a dungeon.
I've just uploaded a new update for Steam Next Fest with improvements and fixes. There's still plenty of work ahead, and the demo is only a small part of what I have planned for the full game.
I'm trying to keep the visuals relatively simple and old-school so I can focus more on the RPG mechanics, exploration, and sandbox elements.
Anyway, if you enjoy old-school RPGs where you can make your own decisions and see how long your character survives, I'd really appreciate it if you gave the demo a try.
I'd also love to hear your feedback, especially about the combat and the overall direction of the game.
Thanks for reading!
