Had the rare opportunity yesterday to visit the Auwahi Wind Farm on the remote southern slopes of Haleakalā, Maui.
Eight enormous wind turbines stretching across the landscape, with the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop. Standing directly beneath one while the blades were spinning was an incredible experience. You could actually hear them slicing through the air overhead.
Photos really don't capture just how massive these machines are. An impressive combination of engineering, energy, and landscape.

Built around 50 AD to carry water to Nîmes. The scale is hard to grasp until you’re standing underneath it.
