Sconce placement question

Hi, I moved in and was wondering where I should place these two plug in sconces. Initially, I had wanted to place one on either side of the headboard. But since the vanity had to be placed on one side of the bed, I think one sconces on each side is out of the question. Here’s my dilemma, should I:

1) place both sconces above the headboard
2) use only one scone and place it above the night stand.

I’m open to other suggestions as well. Please help. The deadline to return one of the sconces is next week 😓.

different sconces!!!!!!! for the love of god! the velvet headboard is such a statement, i'd go more minimal with the sconce choice - not sure of your budget but these from anthro feel like a better fit to me: https://www.anthropologie.com/anthrohome/shop/onda-iron-single-plug-in-sconce-wall-light

100% one over the night stand. Personally I'd find another place for the vanity and get another night stand so you can do one on each side.

The vanity is a placeholder until I come upon something that fits dimension wise and budget wise 🥲🥲 Don’t worry. As I prefaced, I just moved in. Go easy on me guys!!

First one but space them further apart

Return both and buy a lamp for the nightstand.

The asymmetry option seems nicer

Since the vanity can't move, I'd put one sconce over the nightstand and let the vanity's own light cover the other side. Hang it about at shoulder height when you're sitting up in bed. Most people mount them too high and the light lands on the top of your head instead of the book. Paintable cord covers make the plug-in kind look hardwired.

Can you not move the vanity to the left wall and mount both lamps on either side?

Those are meant to go above the nightstands, not the headboard. If you want one on either side, something smaller that still mounts to the side. Depending on the lighting you want, you can add a light strip behind the headboard to give even lighting all the way around. The white wall will bounce a fair amount of light.

Why are those meant to be above the nightstand and not the headboard?

Because the shade only shields from glare above and from the side so they should be positioned so you never look at them from below.
Above the headboard you will look straight at the bulb whenever you lie in bed and get blinded.

Thank you for the explanation. I never thought about it that way.

The headboard lighting is a great idea!! Thank you x
I will opt for the one sconce above the nightstand and perhaps see if a light strip will attach to my headboard. My only qualm would be how well the strip will attach to the fabric (it covers the headboard front and back)

I would recommend you put the strip on the wall behind the headboard, just tucked behind the border so you can't see it. That way it will be backlit and will glow from behind the headboard.
