Pretty sure Francine is canonically turned on by the idea of her husband killing people, so she'd be a lot more comfortable with Nolan being a Viltrumite.

u/Humanoidusius Apr 12 '26
In my opinion, the worst mother in cartoons is Lois Griffin.Sure, she cares about Stewie, but damn, she's so awful at Meg.Well, come on, what's your problem? Your husband is farting in your daughter's face right in front of you...And that episode where she admitted that she was the cause of her troubles and that it was all her fault, it was just awful, I donât understand the point of that episode and especially what the message was.
43
u/Thatonesickpirate Apr 12 '26
Without a doubt
Beth and Francine genuinely love their kids and rarely mistreat them on purpose
→ More replies (1)13
u/Humanoidusius Apr 12 '26
That's exactly it, yes. Francine is a perfect example, I haven't watched much Rick and Morty so I can't say for sure, but even from what I've seen, Beth loves her children. But Francine, with the exception of the surreal episodes, really cares for and loves her children, like the episode where she ran away... what's her name... well, in short, Velma. And Stan, well, I think he's one of the best fathers in animated series.I think Steve is even luckier than Bart.
18
u/Thatonesickpirate Apr 12 '26
Theyâre both flawed and the flaws are often taken to comedic extremes
But Lois is often shown to dislike her children

Family Guy is a weird one because it's gotten so meta now that all the characters know they're just cartoon characters and act accordingly.
We judge characters as if they were real but if they know they're not real and none of what they do has consequences, can we still judge them as if they were real?

From bad to good
Lois (genuinely is shown to hate her children at times due to the shows flanderization of her character)
Beth (about as bad as a mom can reasonably get IRL. Selfish, bitter, alcoholic, resentful and unable to properly display love)
Power gap
Francine (Not a bad mom persay but typically unreliable. )
Power gap
Debbie (She has done almost everything right and Mark's character is credited to her over everyone.)

Itâs Lois by a mile. Debbie is a saint. Francine is actually ride or die for her kids even if she is a bit on the wild side and just a tiny bit neglectful.
Beth Smith is all kinds of fucked from being Rickâs daughter; her marriage has been a dumpster fire in its entirety that she would rather fuck an alternate version of herself than her loser of a husband. If it wasnât for Rick coming back into her life and providing some âvarietyâ in her and her kids lives she would have ended up as neglectful single mother a long time ago even if said âvarietyâ involves life threatening situations.
Lois has shown open contempt and neglect for her kids. Sheâs been in an unhappy marriage for as long as sheâs had them, tried to fuck her daughterâs boyfriend while going through a midlife crisis, slept with Bill Clinton, tried abandoning meg at a fire station, and nearly drowned stewie in a toilet bowl. She is by far the worst mother here.

Debbie is an amazing mom, knows when to be apart of her children lives but can back off and give them room to grow and make mistakes.
The only thing that she did wrong was telling Paul Marks identity without his consent BUT SHE IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZED AFTERWARDS.
You know how rare that is for a parent to admit they were wrong?

Debbie is perfect except for her slight drinking problem but that was perfectly reasonable after finding out the love of your life and father of your children considers you a pet.
2
u/qabib Apr 12 '26
Debbie is one of the reasons earth still exists.
But I think itâs important to note that she used to be much more strict in early seasons.
So if you see it from an average viewer perspective she might have landed in the âparent who doesnât let their superhero child be a superheroâ trope.
I actually like they made her fairly reasonable through out but still open to it as the story progressed. Itâs much more believable and also opens up more interesting character dynamics.

u/Radical_Provides Apr 13 '26

The worst has to be Lois because she treats Meg like trash. Meg has died and she has been like "Oh so sad, moving on ...". Beth treats Jerry (her husband) like trash, but she is a decent mom to Morty and Summer. Francine is kind of an ass to Haley sometimes, but nothing near as bad as Lois is to Meg. Francine treats Steve really well with a few exceptions.
Conclusion: Debbie is the best mom. Beth and Francine are okay moms. Lois is a terrible mom.
