Stan focuses more on making a profit than he does actually managing the Seven. If he was in charge of Omni-Man, Omni-Man would have just conquered Earth right then and there since Stan couldn’t control him like he does Homelander.
Cecil, on the other hand, wouldn’t tolerate all the BS that the Seven do. A-Train wouldn’t be hooked on drugs, Maeve wouldn’t be depressed because the airplane incident would never have happened on Cecil’s watch, and Homelander would have been reined in a long time ago. Maybe he wouldn’t be a paragon of virtue, but at least he would keep his more narcissistic side in check. Cecil would be harsh on all of them.

u/MassiveBuzzkill Ursaal Stan 👾 Apr 27 '26
Definitely, Cecil has more humanity in his little finger than in the entirety of Vought Corp and would have seen him as John first instead of a product. If they swapped and he inherited the mess he’d probably focus on keeping that in place for Ryan.

Not the way Cecil does business. First he'll use him as much as possible, and only when the danger becomes imminent will he actually push the button to have Homelander killed
22
u/HelixFollower Simba Apr 27 '26
I think the tricky thing with Homelander is that he has the potential to go from submissive to bloodbath in the blink of an eye due to his mental instability. It makes him very unpredictable even with countermeasures. Someone like Sinclair is much easier to handle in that regard. Keep in mind the GDA already doesn't use every villain they catch. The mauler twins for example were just kept locked up.
37
u/andre5913 Apr 27 '26
Cecil wouldnt have allowed Homelander's psyche to deteriorate like that in the first place. He most likely would have had homelander raised in a loving, but supervised enviroment. He would never become the monster he is in The Boys
12
u/Few_Category7829 swearing doesn't make you cool Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26
He doesn't even have to have intervened/been swapped with Stan Edgar when Homelander was being raised, though if that happens he's just straight up not the same character at all and is probably an ACTUAL superman/all-might-like character, but Homelander wasn't the complete unstable monster in the main show just right out of the gate, as the Boys: Diabolical shows, even though he was always very flawed, he was trying- tenuously- to be an actual hero on his first mission. If Cecil was there around THAT point, I think Homelander turns into a fairly decent person, and can be rehabilitated from his completely traumatizing upbringing.
21
u/HelixFollower Simba Apr 27 '26
That's a good point. As pragmatic as he is, he is still ultimately a good person. Just one that sometimes makes the less than heroic decisions.
95
u/Pasty_Tibbles Apr 27 '26
Cecil could have probably taken care of the airplane situation without supes and just used the GDA tbh.
36
u/Chemical_Cut_7089 Apr 27 '26
without a doubt. they can already solo lower tier villains, rebuild city blocks or put them into lockdown. they would absolutely run through the seven if they had to put them down too
69
u/GUM-GUM-NUKE Apr 27 '26
If Cecil had Homelander from the start, he would’ve turned him into someone like Black Noir.
Homelander also would’ve been treated better, because despite his bullshit Cecil has morals and wouldn’t want to torture a child like that.
30
u/c0horst Nolan Grayson Apr 27 '26
Stan might not have even cared if Omni-Man decided to take over the world. Hell he might help, as long as it caused Vought's share price to go up.
A decade long online campaign to make the Viltrum empire seem amazing by using Vought's online trolls, get the US to elect Nolan as the President, and then he just declares wars of expansion on other countries while stoking nationalism. Vought is right behind them, scooping up money from defense contracts, while Nolan unites the planet under the American flag. Thragg and the other Viltrumites show up to a population that welcomes them, and they interbreed with willing humans.

Cecil ESPECIALLY saves the day if he's swapped in at the point of or before the Homelander Boys: Diabolical episode, because we know he was trying to be an actual hero.
578
u/DisMFer Apr 27 '26
Cecil was once sent to prison and, within 2 years had that place running so well he was given the top position with the organization that sent him to jail. He'd not only control the Seven well he'd likely actually make them something close to functioning people.
Stan meanwhile would sell out planet Earth to Viltrum so fast that Nolan would honestly not even finish telling him about the offer.
187
u/JayPet94 Apr 27 '26
Cecil also respects Debbie for raising Mark to be a good man, I can't see a Vought that he runs experimenting so badly on the future strongest man on the planet that he goes insane, he'd probably take the Ryan approach and try to set up Homelander with a caring mother
It's very possible Homelander is a well-adjusted man in Cecil's Vought
If he comes in late when Homelander is already crazy, it'll be harder but I still think he handles him better than Stan
49
u/666Emil666 Apr 27 '26
It's very possible Homelander is a well-adjusted man in Cecil's Vought
Or at the very least has a better contingency plan than just hoping they could control him psychologically
318
u/Margareine Apr 27 '26
Cecil would have known homelander is an idiot and a menace the second he would have met him.
He aslo probably would have found a way to control/kill him pretty rapidly, the same way he did for Invincible
150
u/ConsciousPatroller Apr 27 '26
Within 2 days of Cecil realizing how unstable Homelander is, he gets a sonic earpiece installed and the walls of his room are secretly lined with zinc-coated uranium canisters. If Homelander tries to pull the same shit he pulled with Edgar, Cecil clicks a switch and Homelander just collapses.
97
u/Margareine Apr 27 '26
Just imagine Cecil knowing about flight 37
On way or another he would have known that Homelander did something wrong, the same way he kwen about Omniman and the guardians.
Giving that poker face to homelander "yeah sure you did your best, take some rest, I'm here if you need to talk" but preparing a solution to destroy Homelander, no matter the cost
Nolan was smart enough to realise Cecil was a menace, Homelander is just a very powerful idiot
20
u/Chemical_Cut_7089 Apr 27 '26
they dont really need to prepare for anything because homelander would be dispatched by a few superheroes. he's just kinda bummy
35
u/Steridire Apr 27 '26
The zinc isn't the gotcha you think it is, you don't think Homelander is gonna realize "Huh suddenly I can't see through my own walls, must be zinc" immediately?
34
u/ConsciousPatroller Apr 27 '26
No, he's going to see "blank" spaces where the uranium canisters will be. And being Homelander (=stupid), he'll probably assume it's a zinc-coated pipe. Nothing to worry about, after all, he's invincible, right?
31
u/Str8t_chels Apr 27 '26
HL isn't a idiot, he's just naive.
Hell realise something is up because why is their zinc in a place where he normally is?
Hell likely out two and two together and confront Cecil head on foolishly, but by then, Cecil would know he knows and would apply the contingency he has for him

Yeah she's obviously the worst amongst her, Cecil and fury. But all 3 of them are way better than anything else at vought.
13

Amanda Waller can barely control D-tier metahuman rejects or her team of computer nerds. If a pencil-pushing office clerk had the balls to KO her, imagine what a psycho like Homelander would feel emboldened to do.
37
u/115_zombie_slayer Apr 27 '26
I wonder if Cecil would have Billy and the Boys under his payroll to keep things in check in secret or if he views billy as a liability
24
u/Bay64 Apr 27 '26
Cecil would’ve stopped Comic Billy from going rogue, or at the least stop him before he kills most of The Boys
12
u/Mandingo_Obama Apr 27 '26
He'd have Comicbook Boys on speed-dial, they were an actually competent, experienced and cohesive team. He'd def keep an eye out for Billy.
Show Boys are a gigantic liability. They're disorganized, unfocused, unreliable, sloppy and half the time can barely work together. He'd probably use them then dispose of them.

u/mrmonster459 Apr 27 '26
Stan Edgar was terrible at his job.
- Was so careless with Compound V that he allowed A-Train and Pop Claw to use it as a steroid.
- Allowed Homelander's mental state to deteriorate for years unchecked.
- Was so shitty to Victoria (his one personal asset) that she betrayed him for Homelander at her first opportunity.
By all accounts, the only thing this man was good at was winning arguments.

And winning arguments against people that were either really dumb, overconfident or emotionally underdeveloped. Usually all 3.

10
u/DarthEinstein Apr 27 '26
Don't forget, Stan Edgar was involved with Vought for a LONG time. HE was the guy they sent to order the assassination of Soldier Boy because of Homelander's birth, he's the fundamental architect of the vast majority of Vought's entire deal. If Cecil was taking over vought instead in those early days, he would have been whipping everything into shape. Homelander would have gotten actual parenting and support, not just a lab environment designed to make him needy. He also would have gotten real training on how to safely use his powers, and other heroes that killed people would be taken out, not ignored.

I only watched the first episode of Season 5, but MM, a normal ass person, manages to kill a Supe with his bare hands somehow. Supes are nothing compared to what they are in the Invincible universe, with the exception of some of the Seven.
8
u/DreadDiana Apr 27 '26
There is a range when it comes to how powerful Supes are, with some being about as durable as baseline humans, but your overall point is right: The Boys does not have anyone who should be able to give the Invincible universe trouble.
Of course, there are the occasional writing issues which could somehow make Homelander a brief threat even though he shouldn't be.

u/Syphari Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26
Cecil would literally have a FOXDIE style custom made via CRISPR virus that is genetically targeted for each of the Seven and probably inject it into all GDA/Vought employees so if they kill anyone they’d be exposed and dead before they knew blood exposure was the vector. It wouldn’t do anything to folks it’s not genetically targeting.
Hell he may even have it laced in their outfits 24/7 with an activating agent that makes it go from inert to deadly and airborne or something.
My point being they’d be under his thumb like how Amanda Waller had base charges in the back of the head of the Suicide Squad dudes lol

11
u/Mandingo_Obama Apr 27 '26
Cecil thrived on a super-jail as a regular dude. Running Vaught would be child's play. He'd have supes turned into actual heroes or worm-food inside 2 months.

Edgar would 100% figure out that omni man is a viltrumite planning on conquering the earth, and would help him do it if it meant making his company more profitable

Cecil handles supes far better. He doesn’t make them movie stars or propaganda like Vought does. Cecil manages heroes who understand their primary objective is to protect the world because it is necessary, not because it brings fame and control like Vought does.
5
u/Gekidami Apr 27 '26
Stan Edgar isn't the Cecil of The Boys universe. That was Madelyn Stillwell's job. That's why her death was a big deal; it was the beginning of Homelander becoming free to go off the rails.
6
u/SpiralDesignn Apr 27 '26

I'm trying to imagine Stan in Cecil's role. He'd probably agree with Nolan and keep things as they are so long as he stays as the figurehead, but actually die when the viltrumites arrive and don't accept his "I can smooth things over".
3
u/Vellarain Apr 27 '26
Stan does not manage Omni man at all, Cecil did not either and I have a vast amount more respect for his ability to manage super powered heroes and villains.
Cecil more than likely would have seen the dysfunction of the entire Vought franchise and more than likely would have rebuilt it from the foundations to actually serve the country and not corporate interests.
Cecil also would have bolstered the ground level support and actually had a skilled team of unpowered people with some high grade tech. You bet your ass Cecil would have had a special hit squad with V injectors on the ready if one of their heavy hitters got out of control. Imagine actually trained super killers that all got amped like Billy because Cecil would screen for their temporary traits for maxium lethality. Homelander would get humbled and terrified by Cecil right fucking quick.
So you got a guy that would funnel the money in the right places with efficiency that would make the government nervous. Have plenty of fall back measures in case shit went south, not just a premier leauge of the seven. He would also keep the supers on a tight leash, so no fucking A train drug abuse or homelander freakouts trashing his PR. He more than likely would also be making damned sure that the supes are mentally stable and have people to offer them therapy and actually help them because you dont have reliable heroes if they are having PTSD panic attacks.
The Boys simply would not happen, it would be kinda boring with the absence of drama as Vought suddenly becomes extremely competent at what it does. Who knows maybe Cecil starts to think the entire world should be under his thumb since he does not gave to deal with all the monster of the week bullshit.
3
u/Obsessively_Average Apr 27 '26
If by "better" you mean making the world an overall better place and channeling the resources at their disposal towards a poaitive outcome dor as many people as possible - Cecil, but not because he is more competent (even tho he is imo)
The bottom line is that no matter what challenges Cecil would have to face, he would do his best to make the world around him better and safer, even if he fails.
Edgar as GDA director would be fucking catastrophic because he is an immoral monster. What I haven't seen anyone mention in this thread is that the moment he realized what Omniman really is about, Edgar would 100% start a plan to sell the planet to the Viltrumites in exchange for being made king of Earth or some other bullshit of that nature.
There's many ways Cecil can succeed or fail, but Edgar will invariably fail because he is a monster

2
u/lightlysssalted Apr 27 '26
If Cecil was in the boys universe and he wasn't able to teleport, I think that Homelander would end up killing him
2
u/BGMDF8248 Apr 27 '26
Cecil would've developed a Homelander countermeasure, and he would've activated it already.
2
u/No_Communication2959 Apr 27 '26
Cecil knows how to hedge his bets. That's the difference.
If Cecil made a Homelander, it's because he already has an anti-Homelander in his back pocket and a contingency plan in his other pocket.
2
u/ohyeababycrits Apr 27 '26
Thing is, the boys is just a normal world with no real supernatural threats, and Stan Edgar's only job is to make profits as high as possible. Invincible's world is full of constant attacks, conflict, and super powered beings tearing the world apart, and Cecil's job is to save the planet from destruction. The biggest threat to earth in the Boys are the supes themselves, and Stan Edgar's experience would not help him run the GDA at all. Cecil would probably have the virus made and released globally in a week, and Stan Edgar would probably not be able to handle the pressure.

Homelander is maybe Bulletproof level, so I dont see it being an issue.

Its a pointless question. Vought is a for profit corporation. The GDA is at the end of the day a public organ that protects the population. The Interests of the organisations and therefore their leaders interests are so vastly different, it doesnt make any sense to compare them.

Cecil might be permanently stressed but 50 rogue space nazis is harder to manage than one powerful manchild

I just don't think this is a good comparison at all, Edgar is in charge of a Pharmaceutical company that uses superheroes as marketing/secondary product, he doesn't even manage the heroes directly for the most part. Cecil is on charge of a governmental agency and is tasked protecting the planet and aiding superheroes.

Cecil could've very well curbed the entire culture of superheroes just being drug-addicted violent criminal losers. And since actual supervillains don't really seem to be a thing in the Boys universe (other than the actual "heroes"), he'd be focused on handling the heroes entirely. Edgar would've tried to just market the Invincible heroes as products but I get the sense there are enough genuinely-good and sincere heroes in the Invincible world that they wouldn't have gone along with it.
Also Cecil has countermeasures developed that don't entirely work against Omni-Man but did work against Invincible at least, and other than having laser eyes Homelander doesn't feel like he nearly measures up to Omni-Man, power-wise.

Cecil would only have to deal with humans and there would be no extraterrestrial threat like the Flaxans, the Viltrumites, the coalition of planets...
It would be a walk in the park, he'd send Homelander to therapy in an instant

Stan wouldn't last 2 seconds.
Stan is just a smart sociopath that is surrounded by cartoonishly stupid people so he looks like a genius. He'd immediatelly crumble the moment anyone called his bluff. He wouldn't make it past the mid-tier villains in Invincible.
Meamwhile, Cecil has elite-level management, logistics and strategic skills, an unbreakable will, world-class manipulation abilities and complete fearlesness. He deals with world-ending threats on the regular. He'd run circles on everyone in The Boys' universe, absolute child's play.

Cecil and it’s not even close. Managing super heroes and villains is all that Cecil does, whereas Stan is managing a money making product.
That being said, the GDA has a lot more tech to do this than Vought does so Cecil would have his work cut out for him
