Recommendations Jdramas where he loved someone else and then falls for the heroine
I'm new to Jdramas and mostly I watch mystery dramas but I've watched them so much so I now want to cleanse my palate.
I'd really like recommendations where hero loves someone else(can be gf/friend) and he genuinely does, and then he meets the heroine. And he takes time before he falls for heroine.
I kind of want to feel very hurt for the heroine because her love is unrequited for him for a long time. Or because she knows he loves someone else.
I've watched all versions of Itazura no Kiss and Incurable Case of Love.
But I'm waiting for some other recommendations with my delighted heart!
Thank you for helping me.
PS: Definitely want Happy Ending.

Have you watched Orange Days? It's one of my favourites and has this setup.

I read the synopsis and it says hero fell for the heroine pretty quickly. So do the main couple follow this setup or there is some secondary couple who follows this? Can you clarity please because I really want to watch this trope.

If you are looking for the main characters to only get together and confess in the last episode then this is not the series for you. It takes a number of episodes before anything official happens.

First Love. It will wreck you in a really good way.

Does it follow the same plot of hero being in love with someone else and then he falls for the heroine?

Yes, though the heroine is his first love. Canβt give too much away but they lose touch. You will love both characters. They are so good and awesome chemistry.

What about Heroine Disqualified? It meets the male lead dates 2nd female lead. But imo it's not the cookie cutter romance trope where the female lead is nice and innocent. She pulls some stunts to get her man back. But I mean, the title does suggest she's not exactly qualified to be a "heroine". And I can't say the male lead is a "hero" either.

All the angst you need, good luck!
Kono yo no Hate (this is hailed as one of the darkest love stories from the 90s.. you have been warned)
Mukashi no Otoko (watch only if you can take heartbreak)
Tokyo Love Story (watch only if you can take heartbreak)
Antarctica (the leads relationship is a small part of it though)
More than Words (complex.. FL loves both men and they MLs love each other)
You're My Pet (ML pines for FL.. reversed)
25 Years of You (ML pines for FL,, reversed)
Yamato Nadeshiko (both pine for each other)
Over TimeΒ (this isn't for a conventional audience though.. )
Apollo's Song (this isn't for a conventional audience though.. )

Why do mostly all of these recommendations literally mention traumatic experience? π Aren't these all happy endings? Did I forget to mention I want happy ending as well? Now I am scared to watch these lol.

there's only 3 of them where I mentioned heartbreak though..
also the specific category you're looking for is angsty.. and a lot of very angsty dramas from Japan are real, so they're not gonna be hunky-dory like SK or Chinese dramas. The screenwriters don't sugercoat things that way. It's a very different writing style.

I guess from my list, you should just watch these. They have happy endings -
Perfect Love, Love Shuffle, Long Vacation, Love Generation, Yamato Nadeshiko, You're my Pet
