This vocal version cannot be topped, and of course, Trane's playing is great as well.

I've always been surprised that one of my top 3 favorite sax players, Ben Webster, does not seem to have ever made a recording of Lush Life. It's so right up his alley, and I know he would have played it so well.

“I'll live a lush life
In some small dive
And there I'll be
While I rot with the rest
Of those whose lives are lonely, too” -> saxophone. SO GOOD.

Lush Life en esta version es de lo mejor que he escuchado en mi vida! Ya de por si es una gran cancion, pero esto es espectacular....y el momento del solo.....alucinante!!!

If you listen to this after a break up be warned! It took me a while to get Hartman’s croon but Coltrane and his band are all in. ❤️

Always a closer after a long night.

Y’all might wanna check out this new album, just for fun. I guess you’d call it a cover album. Not as good of course but still very good. And kind of a ballsy thing to do.

That is a great album. Coltrane is brilliant, of course, and Hartman is as smooth as it gets.

This is the only Coltrane album from the 60s that I listen to.

Are you just not into Coltrane?

Giant Steps, My Favourite Things, Coltrane, Duke Ellington & John Coltrane, Live at Birdland, A Love Supreme, Ascension... that's pretty much all of his best work IMO

It’s kind of crazy that the same lineup (minus Hartman) recorded what became Both Directions at Once the day before! Huge contrast between the two albums (but I like both of them).

Legend is that they were hanging out and both owed Impulse a record. Two birds, one stone.

Some recordings seem to fit certain seasons best. This one is pure autumn to me.

Oh yeah what an album . Recorded in NJ, most all song were one take. McCoy Tyner on piano. Amazing stuff.

Hartman's voice sounds as much like a sax as could be encountered.

I always heard it as the sound of a honey and butter glaze slowly soaking into crushed velvet, but that’s just me.

I think somehow both observations are true.

A complete gem from start to finish.

beautiful album. I generally don't like vocals in jazz but this album is the exception.

My favorite album for the Holidays. Always has been.

People give me funny looks when I say this and I point out that it’s even got a Christmas tee on the cover.

Vinyl liquid gold together
Wonder about the context for Coltrane agreeing to this at point in his career trajectory was very different?

A thing of beauty...but too short imo
