Antisemitism “Halloween decor” at a local restaurant
On their opening day, this is the decor they chose to put up for Halloween… I don’t even know what to say at this point. Part of me wants to believe it’s innocent but I know it’s not.

I’ve noticed in a lot of Japanese anime and manga they frequently use the Star of David as a symbol of the occult, as opposed to a pentagram.

There’s a lot of contexts where a hexagram is just a hexagram.
But anywhere they celebrate Halloween publicly this should not be used.

Your post/comment was removed because it links to content which may benefit a bad actor (individual or organization) when you visit the website. Those benefits include engagement, views, and even revenue, even if you just want folks to take a look at how crappy they are.

My guess is that this was manufactured somewhere that the difference just isn’t as culturally obvious. But to put it up as is? That’s inexcusable. WTF.

exactly. its probably made in china or vietnam and they meant to use 5 point star

Probably true, but it’s the “niggardly” problem. Even if it isn’t fundamentally racist, it’s close enough that you should not use it.

Even if that’s the case, which it very well might be, the owner/staff should have returned it upon seeing what was on the cover of the book. To me this seems intentional.

I mean the witch trope itself is a direct extension of antisemitism, never even mind the star

Hmmm... wasn't that Macklemore's lame defense of his Jewface costume with the black jacket, beard, and long hook nose, that it was just meant to be a witch??
Of course he had no explanation of his moronic statement at the time that "Today I feel like a man" or whatever, a grotesque parody of what a bokher says at his Bar Mitzvah ceremony...

I would let the restaurant owners know. They may have no clue. I would give them the benefit of the doubt. The sellers of the animatronic is a different story

Since it comes like that on Amazon, I would assume positive intent and let them know. They can easily cover that with a print out of an actual pentagram or anything else.

If it makes you feel better the Star of David was a symbol for magic long before it was a symbol for Jews

I’m going to assume the seller is ignorant because how do you confuse a pentagram with a Star of David.

So the hexagram is also an occult symbol not just the pentagram. This is not necessarily antisemitic

This isn't great, and we know the reason that are doing this, but that is the stereotypical image of a grimoire.

Lmao no it's not. Grimoires that have a star is almost always a pentagram

Wouldnt the stereotypical image have a pentagram, not a magen david?

u/cutthatclip 2d ago
It's the "seal of Solomon". The cosplaying wiccas love it.

Sure, neo-pagans love appropriating judaism you’ll find no argument there from me. If you google “grimoire” though, the vast majority have pentagrams if there is a star. I dont think the stereotype is six-pointed, even if that is sometimes used

Seal of Solomon Grimoires, but whatever. We are fighting antisemitism over here not my incorrect impression of a Grimoire.

I saw Eitan Levine posted about this on IG. Someone at the Halloween decor company effed up big time on the pentagram….
Edit to add— Maybe it’s because I’m in the US South and someone asked me if I was Wiccan bc of my Magen David, but I think some people just don’t know what a Magen David means and are DUMB
