72% of Americans say there is too much money in politics.
The left and right agree on this, but the vast majority of politicians that want to fix this shit are Democrats.

yeah I like to point out that since citizens united has become law Democrats have controlled neither the courts nor the legislature in large enough majorities to change anything

majority in Citizens United :Â
Thomas: appointed by HW Bush, Roberts appointed by W Bush, Alito appointed by W Bush, Scalia appointed by Reagan, Kennedy appointed by ReaganÂ
Dissent:Â
Stevens appointed by Ford, Sotomayor appointed by Obama, Breyer appointed by Clinton, Ginsberg appointed by Clinton
Simply a fact that if we had not elected republicans to the presidency we wouldnât have citizens united prostituting our gov to the highest bidder

They have to repeal citizens United. There should never be one person controlling the US elections because that's what he's doing

The UK has a spending limit of roughly ÂŁ34 Million per party. In the 2024 election the UK in total spent around ÂŁ70 Million.
Elon Musk alone has spent more than 5 times the entire UK alone, and that's only the stuff people can track from Elon.
It's legit insane how America has turned elections into a fucking sport.

The thing is that if all 80 million of us who voted against Trump donated like 10-25 bucks to a pro-democracy candidate, we could easily drown out the billionaires. Maybe like 20 million of those voters are truly unable to afford $10, so make it 60 million. It still stands. Elon Musk doesn't have nearly as much money in reality as he has on paper.
3
u/Technical-Activity95 Monkey in Space 2d ago
what for? for some ad campaign?
1
u/brokemac N-Dimethyltryptamine 2d ago
Canvassing, ads, organizer salaries...maybe I don't understand your question. OP's post is about how Elon Musk is using his money to influence the election. I was saying we can do the same thing across 80 million people with very small donations. What are you asking?
2
u/Technical-Activity95 Monkey in Space 1d ago
if you have 80mil donators you don't need ad campaign. the ad campaign is how you get the 80mil
1
u/Big-Lettuce644 Monkey in Space 2d ago
Paying to get more ads, what an idea đ
2
u/brokemac N-Dimethyltryptamine 2d ago edited 2d ago
Haha, yeah, it seems like a ridiculous question unless I'm missing something. Everyone knows that money helps win elections. The candidate who spends more wins 90% of the time, and small contributors are the lifeblood of grassroots campaigns fighting pieces of shit like Ken Paxton. James Talarico would not stand a chance if everyone was like "what do you need money for?? Fucking ads?" đ
