Id bet that comment comes from someone who has literally never left America and has very little idea of what's happening outside of their immediate bubble
it's always the people who rarely travel or interact outside of their small circle who are the most anti immigrant. if they'd touch grass (God forbid!) they might change their views
I’m sure there are others that could offer better details, but in general France’s economy is in serious trouble. Even before paying interest on its debts, the government is running a deficit, spending more than it collects. Lenders have such low confidence in their outlook that even Greece gets better terms than France. That leaves them in a position to either cut spending or raise taxes, and they already have the highest taxes in Europe. Hence the cuts to teachers in an already struggling education system. And here we are.
Thank you, I appreciate you bringing clarity. So now, in a pragmatic sense, is there a real solution to this? I'm not discouraging protesting but they need to bring forth ideas that could help solve this. Does that exist and what is it?
There's some seriously braindead takes in these comments.
Also, why is this sub a dumping ground for rage bait attempts and shit that has nothing to do with a podcast?
Jesus was just watching videos from Marseilles (southern France) that showed riot police being driven back from their positions .... Countrywide unrest
According to my French friends in Paris it is genuinely a civil war down there. Many buildings have been burned to the ground for no reason. Massive amounts of looting. Police fleeing.
She needs a job. People who pay bills don’t have time to play the role of performative protester. I have more respect for OF models than Greta. At least OF models provide a service and offer a modicum of value.
Saw the most insane thing in NYC on Oct 7. Mamdani shares a stage at a vigil of jews mourning murdered jews on Oct 7th. The vigil is attended by peace activists from both sides.
His base (these protesters) now lable him a "Muslim zionist" and accused him of being too pro Israel.
It's kind of magical really. Schools are underfunded and overcrowded. Almost like it wouldn't have been an issue if France didn't import 300k-350k immigrants a year when they weren't economically stable and already had spending issues.
Now the same immigrants and/or their children that were given a place to immigrate to out of their 3rd world country burn France to the ground.
Have family and Friends in France. Paris & Lyon. When I was in the military I met this French military dude and a German military dude. We all drank and had a blast. The German dude is a gay far left liberal who is voting for the far right afd in Germany, and the French dude is married to an Algerian French lady (her family arrived legally) who is voting for LePen.
The cost of living is also much cheaper. The average American is barely making ends meet and has no savings. The average American and average French person have roughly about the same amount in savings.
Maybe if those people put more energy into working instead of burning cities over every little thing that might possible somehow in the future ask them to do something of their own accord, they'd have a median income higher than 2k per month
I have a client with headquarters in France. They do not fucking work. It’s genuinely impossible to get ahold of anyone, ever. I frequently get automatic replies saying they’re on holiday for the next 5 months.
When I correspond with the folks at their US subsidiary they are always equally flabbergasted and confused about whether their French counterparts do anything whatsoever.
Oh come on, it's not going to destroy any civilizations... The French have been at this for a very long time. It is ridiculous but I guess it also kind of works. The cost is probably not worth it every time though.
How is it working if they’re constantly doing it? Seems like they’re frequently on the precipice of chaos insinuating that they’re not happy and prior protests didn’t work..
To be fair, this version of western civilization is quite shallow and rests on a thin later of correct opinion. The youth don’t even develop dialectical skills unless they go to therapy. No one reads Plato or Plutarch, and base desires rule the mind of most.
I think maybe try baby steps like not allowing your authoritarian governments to strip you of rights. And grow a back bone and stand up for yourselves.
Say the whole thing. You want the right to abort a human baby for any reasonup until birth. You can still get safe abortions in plenty of places. You just can't abort whole people now. What we have in most places is now closer to aborting a "clump of cells".
Cool so you were there? And the government has been overthrown? Or were you sitting on reddit being a pussy while these animals destroy their own city accomplishing nothing in the process.
We’d obviously never do this for an infinite amount of reasons that are obvious to those of us with functioning brains.
I can absolutely tell that most of the people on this thread have never visited the US and have absolutely no idea what is going on here lol y’all are actually the ones being brain washed by your governments and I wish you well. We’re doing great over here haha don’t worry about us.
You’ve clearly never been to an American protest. The military shows up and they have a lot more weapons and tactics at their disposal than the French.
Unfortunately our police are armed with guns, not baguettes and stern looks. Try this in America and you’ll be killed. What are the French even standing up for here, exactly?
You've obviously never been to Paris. You spend any amount of time in Paris and you will see police armed in full military gear. It's been that way for a long time due to the number of high value religious and tourist targets in the city. I've personally never seen them harassing anyone, but they aren't lounging around smoking cigs in mime makeup either.
It's easy to speak on such a subject when UK governments don't just open fire on protestors. We understand we have the right to protest however, that comes with the increased risk of dying for the cause.
Cops fleeing cities is cool? Like, their cops are total pansies, something the world thinks of the their entire country while we’re on it, and this is somehow something America should aspire to?
Bros in America violent protests looks bad and it sometimes results in destruction to historical monuments, important buildings and causalities and overall chaos. The Right wing will most certainly start beating the drums on things like immigrants and foreign influence and these claims may come with partial truth. But when i see any protests happen in America i immediately see people usually older ones say "As long as its peaceful i am okay with it". And we see quickly violence ensues somewhere and the protest is slowly dies down with the Violent part highlighted. This is a fundamentally wrong and dangerous view that will fast track you towards authoritarianism without even realizing it happen. My point is protests where 100,000 or more people gather will certainly have violence or people who go off the rails but watch carefully, because of your going to only allow peace protests this will become the biggest tool in the hands of any agent that is against its cause and lead to the failure. So question the demands of the protests and see how valid it is there maybe chaos but if their cause is rightful and just and they couldnt achive it through peace people will eventually start getting more and more crazy
1) What caused it, how it was formed why now?
2) If its just or something that the constitution or the laws guarantee or if its against a corrupt politician or party It is clearly your movement too and support it of you can.
3) Violence does not always mean its foriegn interference or ''overthrowing of a Right wing government''
4) see if they were able to achive their stated goals ? did it happen with ? did it happen with violence or did it get crushed?
Today is not the Students protest.
This one is a general strike from various Union, truckers, dockers, firefighters, medical staff and random people protesting against cost of life, climate crisis, police violence, tax cut for big company and many other things. Was planned about 2 months ago well before the students movement

Th people shouldn’t be afraid of their governments. The governments should be afraid of its people.
