as noted in an earlier thread, i am actually jon. i'd been lurking here and there for the last few weeks and decided that was rude and that i'd say hi. i'm incredibly honored by all this, and deeply appreciate how much my work can mean to other people.

not sure how much i'll be in here, as i've basically never posted on reddit before this, but if people were interested maybe i could do an ama in here or something. not sure how that works exactly. who knows. hope i didn't ruin everything forever by showing up!

OC Jon Bois-inspired football (the European one) documentary - The Players That Nobody Wanted

Having grown frustrated with the lack of good football content on YouTube, I decided that I would try and spend my summer productively for once, if anything just to find out how hard it is to make a video on the scale of Jon Bois' research and Blender/Google Maps projects. Turns out it's a lot lol.

I know I don't have the greatest speaking voice and I'm not nearly half the writer that Jon is, but I'm hoping someone in here will enjoy the video and if not, please give some feedback. It would be very very appreciated, should I try doing this again. There are already creative choices that I would do different, now that I know slightly more about what I'm doing.

The video is about several players who rose from the bottom of the English league system to the Premier League. Their stories both before and after they made the climb.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHKgmVnhV4E&feature=youtu.be

I have called it part one and I have rough plans for a part two and beyond, but I haven't even begun writing for it yet. I have other stuff on my plate atm, but if there's interest for it I'll see if it's possible that I can make time for it next time I have a substantial break in my schedule.

I want to be up front and say that artificial intelligence has been used to generate the code used for getting the stats for the players and making the graphs for them. I can't code sadly and doing this by hand probably would have taken days or weeks that could otherwise be spent on improving the video or script. AI has not touched the actual script for the video and I imagine (and hope in a way lol) that will become readily apparent by some of the wording and writing in there.

Thanks if you spent your time reading this. Hope you have a lovely day and enjoy the video.

17776/20020/20021 BOIS BOWL WEEK 6 UPDATES

Sorry, everyone. Delays happened. As for your round of updates:

Rulebook for Reference Things we missed:

  • The New Hampshire Wildcats successfully got a ball off Elon

  • Army snatched a ball from Louisiana Tech and successfully brought it home

Updates on Last Week's Developments:

  • UGA left Saban Field empty-handed, and Alabama kept their ball.

  • Kentucky narrowly fended off an ambush by LSU and successfully kept their football

  • Miami, Texas Tech, and Baylor, as projected, got home safe & sound. Miami currently sits #1, with Florida State looking to attack, and Texas Tech and Baylor are tied for #2 with Arizona State and TCU trying to knock them down a peg.

  • Louisville got home safe & sound.

  • Temple lost a ball to UConn, who are set to return home without resistance

  • Toledo fended off Buffalo, letting the MAC's darling boys keep a share of the #4 position.

  • Akron headed off Eastern Michigan and stripped them of their football

  • Scoring error on our end: Rutgers did not have a football for Indiana to steal. Disregard that

  • Arkansas Pine Bluff gets home without issue

  • The Stonehill Skyhawks join by liquidating the Sacred Heart Pioneers. They're heading back to Massachusetts with two footballs and only Duquesne trying to challenge.

  • Fort Valley State gets home safe and sound.

New developments:

  • Turns out USM deposited their ball back home before their skirmish with a misguided Troy.

  • The South Carolina Gamecocks emptied Florida and are set to head back up north with no hassle.

  • Liberty holds off Sam Houston State to get 2 more footballs on their field.

  • Houston scoops a ball from K-State, which Oklahoma State is looking to intercept

  • Syracuse snatches a ball from the Virginia Cavaliers, but Louisville is chasing them up to New York.

  • California successfully fends off Virginia Tech to get a ball on their field

  • Wake Forest snatched a ball from NC State and followed a tip all the way to California to try to get another.

  • The USC Trojans knocked Penn State off the leaderboard and were last seen moving west.

  • UCLA utterly failed to get anything from Oregon.

  • North Dakota State & the Air Force snatched balls from Las Vegas and Northern Illinois. Nevada is chasing NSDU back to the Fargodome, and UNLV decided to chase the Air Force instead of NDSU.

  • Mississippi Valley State, Southern, and Florida A&M made successful challenges on Texas Southern, Prairie View, and Alabama State.

  • UT Martin, Samford, & Eastern Illinois all joined the chaos after stealing footballs.

  • Houston's Cougars made it home with a ball without a hitch.

  • UCLA made it home with their newest ball, bumping them up to 3, and are attempting to make a play on Oregon's stockpile.

  • Ohio State took a ball off Iowa and are heading home with it.

New Developments:

  • Kentucky grabs a ball from South Carolina and are heading home, but LSU looks to intercept them

  • The Baylor Bears stormed Mountain America Stadium and made out like bandits, with ASU's entire stash in their possession and clear roads back to Waco.

  • Texas Tech's Red Raiders have successfully raided Folsom Field. They're currently charging back to Lubbock with no resistance expected & Colorado's two footballs.

  • Louisville grabbed a football from North Carolina State and are heading home with it, but Florida State looks to challenge them for it.

  • Temple gets a ball from South Florida and are heading back to the Linc with it, but UConn is hungry, feeling invincible, and looking to challenge them for it.

  • Toledo took a football from Ball State, and only a Buffalo attack stands between the plucky MAC squad and another ball.

  • Eastern Michigan raided the Junkyard for UMass' football and are heading home, but are set to run into Akron before getting back into Michigan.

  • Indiana's Hoosiers stole Rutgers' football and are looking to swipe Nebraska's before heading home.

  • The Southern Jaguars lost a ball to the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions, who are returning home with it.

  • Sacred Heart joins the fray after snatching a ball from Maine. They're heading home with it and Stonehill looks to challenge for it.

  • A third D2 team joins, with Fort Valley State stealing from Central State of Ohio.

OC Jon Bois - inspired New York Knicks doc

Hello!

I've posted in here before to promote my Jon Bois-inspired Mets docuseries last year, entitled "Misery." Thanks to everyone from here who took the time to watch!

Over the past year or so I've been working on another documentary 3D animated in blender about the New York Knicks. It's the story of the January 2024 "Metal Bats" Knicks, all the "what could have been" speculation about that team, and the journey that the team has been on from that point up until winning the NBA championship this past season. The project is titled, "Metal Bats." The link is here:

https://youtu.be/GlJhmD54gzQ

I will say, since doing "Misery" I think my style in Blender has evolved quite a bit, but at its core I would still say it's Bois-inspired. Jon Bois is in general one of my biggest inspirations.

Throughout the doc, I explore statistical deep dives, online fan narratives, the ever-changing offensive landscape of the NBA, the association of blue collar work with defense in basketball, and much more.

I created this project as a labor of love. I am not monetized on youtube or anything. To anyone who takes the time out of their day to watch - thank you so much.

Made the "Never stop stirring" eggs. They were pretty good

They were great, first time I've ever made scrambled eggs where I was like, wow.

I didn't have any unsalted butter, so I used margarine. Gonna get butter and try it again soon.

You should definitely should give it a try if you haven't yet.

I had no clue that JUICE is scheduled for three Earth fly-bys for gravity assist, before flying towards Jupiter! That's so many! There's some really great graphics of it on the Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter_Icy_Moons_Explorer
