Reminder: Weekend-Only Political Posts Begin Today

Hey everyone,

As a reminder, the community-voted change is now in effect.

Starting today, political posts are only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Today marks the beginning of the Week 1 soft enforcement period of the 30-day trial.

What That Means:

  • Political posts made Monday–Friday will be removed.
  • Removals during this first week are reminder-based.
  • No punishments for honest mistakes.

Beginning next week, standard enforcement will apply.

Weekends are defined as 12:00 AM Saturday through 11:59 PM Sunday Eastern Time (ET).

This rule was chosen by community vote and is being implemented as a 30-day trial. We’ll reassess after the trial period.

If you’re unsure whether your post qualifies as political, please review the definition in the JU rule #11.

Those posts currently in the queue regarding politics will be approved. Any posts following this will be removed until Saturday.

Thanks for helping keep the sub balanced.

(Well, i don't want to expose anyone, even if they're anonymous, so, there's only my screenshot about my statistics post)

Man, i don't even know how to start, it's not a long whole story but, yeh, i was like, looking for a cool subreddit where I could post random stuff and all that. I found the r self subreddit, ok, right, i posted my shyness on here, my dumb and comical shyness, without attack anyone, ANYONE, in there, not even target any shy type of people, just actually joking with myself, and how 'slice of life' is being shy even with a bakery woman, a post for identification, and... eh, it didn't take long, but they literally started massively downvoting me until my post's reach plummeted, a practice that's prohibited on this subreddit I'm posting from, btw.

I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, I JUST WAS BEING HAPPY despite the embarrassment. A few minutes passed, everything's fine, they just didn't like me, that's okay, and then someone commented on my post, they mocks me, like, i'm neurodivergent, so like, I didn't perceive the malice, you know? I tried to be positive and gentle as always. My title was like "sometimes we need to be quiet", not literally, i said it in a comic way, it appears obvious in the prose of my text underneath, was not satirical, i was trying to be positive and silly, as always, and then, backing up to that anon, they said, they was talking about agree with my title, that I need to stay quiet, and i just ???? w-what? :'3 rude?? oww! I feel bad for that, and i reported him, and now I'm here, i unsubbed from there because people appear so hostile with shy and really charismatic people. Other one post received the same treatment of massive downvote for no reason! And i just, nope, that's not for me, i hated this experience, and I'm seeing the same thing happening to a non oomf who posted after me. It's not moderation faults, really aren't! They said to no do that in the rules. But people are so mean in here even if there's a rule to not. So i... i don't know? I didn't tried to search for a better subreddit after this, this experience feels so awkward... y'all, take care if are joining in this subreddit, i don't want any non oomf being harmed by rude people.

POLITICAL (Weekends only) Justunsubbed from Gamingcirclejerk. As expected, liberals and progressives who love discussing politics on social media aren't actually educated about the politics they preach.

Well, I've finally done it. After months or possibly even years of not using it, I finally unsubbed from r\gamingcirclejerk. Not because of how obnoxious they are, but because of how absurdly shallow their understanding of politics is, even by the standards of social media discourse. Their understanding of politics is basically "Trans rights good, blatant Bigotry bad" with barely anything else and is literally adults with a sheltered middle schooler level understanding of American politics (or arguably even lower than that in some ways). Even progressive subreddits like r\whitepeopletwitter, various powermod run subreddits, and r\political_revolution have notably more political education in comparison since they're at least on a regular teenager level and not a sheltered middle schooler level. Basically, r\gamingcirclejerk's understanding of American politics lives and dies by a "Trans rights good, blatant bigotry bad" mantra while failing to realize any systemic political issue in nuanced ways. Heck r\gamingcirclejerk's understanding of politics feels like its stuck in the early 2020s "performative corporate racial awakening" even if it's fucking 2026. And due to this severe lack of political education and nuance, r\gamingcirclejerk falls for corporations using "wokeness" as a means of marketing. Whereas most tend to see right through corporations using wokeness (I.E POC and Queer marketing "representation"), r\gamingcirclejerk acts as if those are actually representative of ideology instead of just marketing. r\gamingcirclejerk will sometimes either implicitly or even explicitly side with exploitative billion dollar corporations on behalf of "owning gamers" because their ideology can be boiled down to "Epic Gamer bad. Opposite of Epic Gamer good". r\gamingcirclejerk's understanding of American politics is so awful and shallow it makes 2010s and early 2020s trendy performative social justice activism look like a democratic socialist book on class relations and economic or social grievance driven radicalization written by a professional sociologist. If anything, r\gamingcirclejerk is one of the most politically illiterate subreddits on the entirety of Reddit, only rivaled by developmentally delayed teenager meme subreddits.

This brings me to the reason I unsubbed, their bootlicking of Nintendo due to their "we treat our workers well" narrative. It's not that surprising that a subreddit that often falls for corporations using liberalism in ways most internet users wouldn't would fall much harder for corporations using progressivism as marketing. After all, many people can tell how Disney queerbaits using fake LGBT representation, but those same people would cite an ABC News article on "Democratic Socialism" as a reasonable source for leftist ideologies. So, if most people who can obviously tell when a corporation is using liberalism often fall for the same corporations using progressivism, then what chance does a subreddit with the shallowest understanding of politics have of realizing corporate progressivism? No matter how many times you try to explain to r\gamingcirclejerk how "We treat our workers well" is a marketing ploy to make Nintendo seem nice or actually discuss the reasons why Nintendo has that perception, they will dismiss it with "Well, someone online told me Nintendo is nice, so therefore Nintendo is nice". Because to them, concepts like NDA's and corporate selective transparency as well as Nintendo being super controlling of PR and super secretive don't register in their brains because they lack the political literacy to understand how corporations work. Nor do they realize that Nintendo's "Better treatment" is common in the rest of the Japanese games industry, yet other Japanese game developers don't have the same "wholesome wonderland corporation that cares about standards in ways other companies wouldn't dare" narrative that has dominated the way Nintendo's been mythologized in North America for the last 40 years.

If there's one thing I've learned from politics over the last 10 years that applies to politics as a whole for over half a century, it's that democrat aligned white people (both liberal and progressive) prefer narratives that don't implicate them and instead reaffirm their status or comfort them. For example, "Tax The Rich" is a popular slogan because it reaffirms privileged suburban white people status as "oppressed" compared to cartoonishly evil billionaire republicans and doesn't require an understanding of economic class in the USA. "End free trade" isn't a slogan due to implicating suburban white people who support progressive politics as actually privileged compared to lower income people who suffer from free trade immensely and actually discussing the issue of class, something progressive politics is specifically not supposed to do. The entire reason why modern day "anticapitalism" and "Democratic socialism" focuses on primarily on the idea of billionaires is because discussing billionaires allows for anticapitalist rhetoric and populism without the concept of actual capitalist systems and class, thus making it palatable for privileged people who think they're "oppressed", yet treat anticapitalism as a trendy consumerist lifestyle, which means expensive Nintendo products fit right into the "expensive products about regulating capitalism" merchandise area. The reason why topics like "Medicare/Housing/College for All" "Minimum wage worker debates" and "Taxing the rich" are so popular is because they're extensions of the culture war debates about welfare and economic regulation. So, to a progressive, the concept of Nintendo products vs the rest of the industry is an extension of the consumerist culture war of Obama reformism vs the Tea Party, Bernie Sanders vs Donald Trump, or Antifa vs Militias.

Nowadays, due to corporations controlling the public sphere, the entire lifeblood of "left wing" movements depends on white liberal approval. Supporting anti factory farming politics, but only because "hurting cute animals is mean and not hurting them by consuming vegan products can solve literally any problem in the world" instead of actually engaging with intersectional left wing anti factory farming ethics, politics, or philosophy and completely misunderstanding the issue. Supporting Black Lives Matter and acting smart by talking about "systemic racism", yet backing down when actual calls to defund the police instead of performative ones become uncomfortable for your privileged suburban policing supported upbringing, then pulling a 180 on police reform when a mass shooting targeting light skinned rural kids happens and then supporting a law and order bill disguised as "progressive". Supporting anti Asian American hate, yet using deeply culturally essentialist and orientalist narratives about issues in Asian Countries under the guise of "liberalism" and "cultural critique" while often using White Savior narratives about "saving" Asian women from their own "corrupted" culture. Supporting "Democratic Socialism", but believing it just means culture war debates about welfare, minimum wage workers, and economic regulation instead of anything radical in the slightest because some billion dollar corporation told you so and sold you "tax the rich" merchandise while you start celebrating McCarthyism once actual socialists start having a presence in American politics and call out the foreign policy of the party you support.

This means the "Nintendo treats it's workers well" narrative is highly effective because it's a company representing white suburban culture saying "We Agree with you politically". It isn't just any company supporting "Democratic Socialism", it's the company representing childhood innocence, Modern Suburban Americana, and a commitment to "wholesome" standards saying they agree with you politically. If any other video game company said that, most people would see right through it. Heck, Big Tech uses this same "We treat our workers well" narrative, but many people see right through it due to their controversial image and big tech companies (comparatively) being more transparent about workplaces. However, Nintendo isn't just any company. They've created an entire brand around "Wholesome wonderland corporation who cares about standards in ways no other company would" since the Days of reviving the games market with the NES's quality control, often using this to manipulate people in predatory ways, including political ways back in the NES and SNES days as well as marketing their console to white suburban families, meaning that most of their fanbase is disproportionately white nowadays. Heck, the "We treat our workers well" mantra used by Nintendo is effectively a status quo reset, which prevents proper analysis of the companies monopolistic and anti-consumer practices such as fixed prices, high priced proprietary accessories, or vertical integration and reducing them to a mere "Wholesome corporation who just happens to be harsh on fan projects with DMCA's"

Overall, r\gamingcirclejerk is basically a subreddit for immature adults too sheltered to actually think about politics in nuanced ways and think all politics is about arguing in very minor (in the grand scheme of things) arguments about representation culture wars in video games and not ask bigger questions about actual American politics, especially when it comes to the games industry. You never see r\gamingcirclejerk bring up more insidious non culture war aspects of the intersection between gaming and politics, such as Microsoft allowing their technology to be used by the Israeli Military, Game companies letting their game engines be used as defense training technology, the role Saudi investments play in major game companies, games industry lobbying, or Tencent's ties to the CCP. I'd argue if more people were aware of how the games industry intersected with politics beyond culture war battles about representation in games, people would be able to see through Nintendo's "Democratic Socialist" adjacent marketing. That's the thing, Nintendo's "We treat our workers well" narrative works so well because progressives are too politically illiterate to understand how corporations work and how they weaponize progressivism (NOT liberalism) to seem hip with millennials.

There's a quote from MLK and Malcolm X that's worth remembering about white liberals and white progressives, especially in recent years. MLK's quote is "I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice". Nowadays, we have a similar problem with our corporatocracy. The Biggest problem isn't the ultra neoliberal corporations like Koch industries and other "obvious villain" type corporations or the reactionary right wing movements they fund. It's the liberal corporations who co-opt "Democratic Socialism" by turning it into a massive and center right (on the grand scheme of the political spectrum) "progressive politicians" who are always dedicated to bringing order to the Democrat Party instead of real economic justice as well as their white liberal/progressive base who always favors movements that reaffirm their status rather than challenging society in meaningful ways. Malcolm X's quote is "The white liberals are foxes... The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the 'smiling' fox.". Nowadays, in our corporatocracy, the wolf is overtly reactionary corporations like military corporations and big oil, but the fox is corporations that present themselves as progressive by co-opting anticapitalist sentiment and neutering it by turning it into marketable trends.

At the end of the day, there's one thing about white liberals and progressives that defines them. They will always prioritize their own comfort and prefer that things reaffirm their own status rather than movements that implicate them. This is a major reason why so many political movements nowadays end up being weak in the grand scheme of things. It's because they don't want to alienate their white liberal and progressive base by implicating them and instead decide to reaffirm their status, even when the movement should actually challenge biases. Whether it be various performative "anti racism" movements to modern day "democratic socialism", movements nowadays are designed to be feel good marketable trends as opposed to anything actually radical, due to how corporations now control the public sphere via social media, which allows them to turn any sort of movement into a marketable trend via co option or shut down movements before they get off the ground if they're too radical and can't be co opted via algorithms and moderation. And this is how the "Nintendo treats its workers well" narrative came to be, because Nintendo's primary demographic in the USA is white and a corporation tied to modern suburban Americana saying they support you politically reaffirms a privileged white persons status very well. The thing about "Nintendo treats their workers well" narrative is it isn't just a condemnation of Nintendo and their manipulative tactics used to trick people to doing their bidding, but also a condemnation of the Democrat party and their dedication to bring order to the status quo under the guise of justice as well as their voter bases political illiteracy which makes them easily manipulatable.

Totally Outraged Just unsubbed for ASKHR, im shocked?

You could literally ask advice there cause your manager or coworker admitted to framing you and they'll tell you to go self reflect on what you did for them to want to do that to you?

I'm completely shocked.

So before i go self reflect, anyone else that noticed this pattern in that sub? Imma copy and paste what i posted there downbelow!

''[NL] How would you advise an employee to handle being framed/scapegoated?

Workplace Issues

I'm basically being framed by my co-workers. It's especially one person who admitted she feels management/HR is gonna make me their boss and for her this is a game of Survivor so she won't let me take anything from her.

I tried to speak to her multiple times and be transparent about how nothing I discussed with HR was about her or in ill intent and that I'm just following the advice they gave me.

Now she's basically gathering up to frame me. Every time management has a workplace complaint, she gathers everyone and tells them it's due to my ties with HR. I'm the person who is making everyone complain about us.

This time she made a mistake. The director of our accommodation had workplace complaints she shared in a meeting with management. HR had nothing to do with it. Now this co-worker went on to tell everyone that this was a "play" from me and HR to set them up?

How would you advise me to deal with this?

Management did eventually admit to wanting to give me leadership tasks and I declined multiple times. They tried forcing me and I asked for transfer but they refused that too. So I'm wondering in what other ways can I solve this?

My manager in itself isn't trustworthy. He basically tells me everyone is jealous of me and scared of my potential but then goes on and throws me under the bus when it's time to defend me.''

Slightly Furious Just unsubbed from Baddlejackets

The sub has gone from poking fun at mediocre jackets to full on bashing of any kind of DIY patches, patches from bands they see as “posers”, or lgbt pride representation in jackets. Every time I see a post from the subreddit, not only is the post itself just a picture of an average jacket with nothing really exceptionally bad about it (in some cases, the jackets are actually pretty cool), but the comments are an absolute war zone. I’m tired of it. Let people enjoy their hobbies.

Slightly Furious Waiting to Wed is genuinely one of the most toxic communities ive ever participated in

I'm exhausted by the comments people make there. You can post a genuine concern about your relationship, ask for advice, or try to discuss something important, and instead of engaging with what you actually said, people fixate on irrelevant details, make snide remarks, belittle you, or treat you like an idiot for having feelings and expectations.

Apparently, anyone under 35 has no idea what they're talking about. If you want marriage, you're rushing. If you're frustrated by your relationship timeline, you're immature. And if you push back against someone's condescension or disagree with their backhanded comments, you're immature again. Somehow, the real issue how they spoke to you in the first place gets ignored.

What bothers me most is that this is supposed to be a community where people discuss relationships, commitment, and the desire to get married. Yet too many interactions feel less like people trying to help and more like people waiting for an opportunity to judge, project their own experiences, or make someone feel stupid for wanting something different.

You can disagree with someone's choices without being disrespectful. You can offer advice without talking down to someone. And you can think someone is making a mistake without treating them like they're beneath you.

I'm not saying everyone has to agree with me. I'm not asking strangers on Reddit to validate every decision I make. I'm saying there's a massive difference between constructive criticism and being needlessly nasty to someone who came there for a discussion.

The condescension I've encountered has been exhausting. Sometimes it feels like people are so focused on proving they're older, wiser, or more realistic than the person posting that they forget how to treat another human being.

I can handle disagreement. I can handle criticism. What I won't tolerate is people disguising contempt as advice and then acting offended when someone calls them out.

At this point, I'm genuinely questioning why I participate in that community at all. A space that's supposed to support discussions about relationships shouldn't make people feel like they're walking into a room full of strangers searching for reasons to ridicule them.

Mildly Annoyed Just unsubbed from CPTSD

I must have joined back when I joined reddit and have only recently saw some posts as I was doing some research. Did not realize I had joined until today.

Today, a post came across my dashboard that was basically just a "please give me applause, I bullied someone" post. 98% of the comments gave those applause, gleefully. Almost every commenter that supported this poster engaged in bullying behaviors themselves, openly, against those who called them out for it. Name calling, explicit bias based bullying, calling people the worst kind of bigots for having the audacity to experience life differently (not for their beliefs, just for straight up being born). I figured I should report for the bullying, only to find mods in the comments supporting the abusive behavior.

Upon re-reading the rules, I found there was nothing protecting people from bullying, just from bigotry. Specifically a really weird, fetishistic take on bigotry (which would be an automatic unsub already just for the ick factor) based on several posts, the rules and mods. But nothing about no harassment. Odd, in a mental health sub. I have run a mental health group, on FB. First thing we were advised by larger groups to do was have a no nonsense no bullying policy because if you didn't, things would devolve fast.

Looking further, this seems to be a overarching trend of it having a subsection of people who have turned it into an echo chamber of being cruel for cruelty's sake in the name of taking agency or "healing". Aka just putting people down to feel better yourself. I blocked everyone I could on the post, as I have no desire to interact w/any adult whose response to a real live person out in public is to bully them. Nor anyone cheering it on. Talking online, via social media comments etc. is one thing, online has been cruel from day one. But a sub dealing w/long lasting harm caused often by similar behavior allowing dehumanization and abuse while claiming to not is wild to me. The second I saw "joined" in the corner, I unsubbed. I don't need poorly modded mass subs in my life. Especially one that hides a local game store nightmare level of fetishism towards minorities behind therapy speak. As a minority, the implication I am not human or adult enough to have agency over my mistakes, and instead my identity excuses them really is infantilizing.

POLITICAL (Weekends only) i unsub from r\TrollCoping because it's boring and biased now

This sub is starting to get boring, and it also seems to have become biased toward the left. Most of the jokes don't seem funny, and people don't know anything. The sub itself also seems to be gatekeeping jokes, especially opinions about the world. Now the sub is full of boring stuff. Even in this day and age, most of the jokes are basic and low-quality, and there's starting to be nothing interesting anymore. On top of that, they even downvote people who disagree, even on topics like mental health and the world today.

I unsubbed from them a while ago, purely because so many people there act so pretentious/condescending.
Any name that doesn’t fit the status quo is ridiculed. Whether it be an unpopular name, a name used for the “wrong gender” (ex: Elliot for a girl, even tho its neutral), a name thats also a place (ex: Paris, Boston, etc), a mashup name, or something made up.
Even if its a name for an adult changing names or a character or just hypothetical, ppl get upset. So many times I read comments just to see a lovely name being bashed on or downvoted like hell. Its so exhausting
They dont feel like name nerds, them feel like name superiority-complex-ists

Too many weirdos with superiority complexes on there. It's like they're in a competition to be the best pet sitter (or already think they're the best) on earth, even though it should be a place to help each other. They also jump to conclusions instead of trying to understand the person posting and the situation. Make a mistake or need to improve? Unsure how to handle a situation? Be prepared to be heavily criticized and treated like a pile of dog crap. Also a lot of people post pets on there instead of caring about their privacy. I hope they get permission to be posting these animals and houses online.

it sounded like a cool concept at first, as i support owning pets in a responsible way to both the pet and the rest of the world but unfortunately the subreddit owner is a schizo who goes on constant rants and will remove comments that go against his extremely restrictive beliefs, the guy just needs to get a fish and get off other people's backs. he is extremely anti-breeder, anti-grooming, basically anything he deems abusive towards animals, i wouldnt even be surprised if he was anti-vet. i have had my comments deleted multiple times and gotten condescending modmails about how there is no such thing as ethical breeding. the straw that broke my back was a post someone made about grooming and dyeing poodles in unconventional ways. everyone was commenting that grooming poodles is necessary and pet safe dyes exist. the subreddit owner deleted every single comment, including mine. the guy is a serious loser and needs to get a life, it would be a great subreddit if it wasnt ran by him.

For context, the original post (now deleted, I forgot to take a screenshot of the post's content itself) was one in which the "elephant" was the word "H\*tler", which is a banned post (for obvious reasons).

Almost every time I see a post from this sub, it's 50% guaranteed to have broken the banned posts rule. Everyone in this sub always gets downvoted for upholding the rules even though it's necessary because almost every post breaks the banned posts rule left and right. The mods have actually been trying their best (rare mod W, ik), they literally put "(Read the rules before posting!)" before anything else in the sub description and even once said "READ THE RULES ISTFG" and people still don't listen. Every time a mod makes a post explaining a reasonable change to the rules, everyone spams "literally 1984" gifs and it's so annoying. I didn't know basic human decency is considered controlling.

Then here, ppl proceed to show a complete lack of respect or empathy when I make a reasonable claim about why the rules are in place.

I'm not even a big Star Wars fans. Used to watch clips here and there and read books and played games when I was very young, but I never even watched that much of The Clone Wars.

I watched the first six a couple of years back as an adult with my brother who never liked Star Wars, and we thought the original was fine, Empire and Revenge were the best ones, Phantom Menace was surprisingly entertaining, and Return and Attack were the worst ones.

No nostalgia, no Clone Wars to improve the plot and characterization. Just our own opinions.
