Discussion Do you guys consider BULLY a decent album?
What do you guys rate the album as well? In my opinion it’s a 8.3/10. The DELUXE is what saved the album IMO. The original BULLY feels so empty, and the mixing was not that good overall.

The Deluxe version? Yes. The regular is mid

Something about regular bully feels empty.

So why not just finish the regular album instead of creating another way better version and calling it DELUXE??, my fave: this one here, sounding amazing in DELUXE and sounding lifeless and half baked in regular

It was rushed have you not seen how many times it got delayed

I wouldn’t say mid. Realistically most people who don’t know the songs well wouldn’t be able to tell them apart on first listen. More like one is a 7 one is an 8

If the original Highs and Lows was on it, it would be generational. Otherwise it’s a great album.

better than anything since donda? yes! is it a good album? meh not rlly especially considering what this man is capable of

Bully is not better than vultures 1 tho
16
u/drnavygaming 22h ago
musically i agree but lyrically bully is better. Vultures 1 seemed like kanye didnt even try with they lyrics and just wanted shock factor for alot of songs

But if you're someone who doesn't pay much attention to lyrics, like if english isn't your native language like me, I don't really care about lyrics much as long as the song is catchy and it slaps. In that sense, vultures 1 clears for me personally tho

u/Alienxcool 15h ago
The lyrics on bully really are not good either

I'd say it's at least a 9 in my opinion. Genuinely his best album in a while.

I heavily agree with this. V2 and D2 were just disasters.

Major step in the right direction. Deluxe to me was incredible and All the Love is one of my favorite ye songs period.

Decent? sure, great or up to his old standard? No
4
u/NekkidGranmaw 1d ago
I hate this take fam. "His old standard" are words that just don't apply to Ye. He's made a career out of obliterating anything anyone considered "standard" or "acceptable".
You get what you get and the very nature of his art means some stuff you will like, and some stuff you won't. And that's ok but suggesting he has some standard to live up to will always leave you feeling disappointed. He will NEVER make another Pablo. He will NEVER make another Graduation. He will NEVER make another Yeezus. I could go on
3
u/Mindleaps 23h ago
You could say this about every artist…
1
u/NekkidGranmaw 16h ago
Yea no shit. That's ART. But there aren't many artists who have the range Ye has.
2
u/essicks 23h ago
I don't expect part 2 of any those things. I want the reverse of that, I want new original stuff. He is not up to his old standard and Donda (maybe even TLOP) were signs of things starting to slip. His old standards didn't have multiple one and sometimes even only half verses. His old standard never had bad mixes which he needed to put update patches to fix. His old standard didn't have punch in from other rappers still left in. I could go on.
The guy use to be a perfectionist who had a cohesive vision of what "new" he was bringing to the game, knew who to work with and how to achieve it. It's what made him the first Hip Hop ARTIST and not just another Hip Hop star.

u/GenerallyJam 21h ago
Bully was an apology album to his fans and was intentionally made to be derivative of his old stuff. In the father BTS video he was talking about making “i am a god” type drums for it. I think the next album will be him experimenting more
1
u/NekkidGranmaw 16h ago
There's SO many variables in the "standards" you named. Pablo was notably the first "alive" album that was only possible because of streaming. Just another example of him experimenting with releases which has ALWAYS been experimental.
Honestly, the only "standard" you can say Ye has is that he WILL experiment with the music, methods, releases, shows, fashion, etc....
Mixes for any given project depend heavily on whos around you and BULLY deluxe was mixed AMAZINGLY. Perhaps his best mixes album. Why not acknowledge that as a "return to standard"? TCD was mixed pretty badly btw.
He had no unfinished verses on BULLY either.
My point is what it was....setting up expectations about what you think an artist SHOULD or MUST do, especially one with the range and level of experiment Ye has, will literally ALWAYS leave you disappointed.

u/Aggravating-Basil495 1d ago
Absolutely. Production wise its perfect mix of every sound that Kanye has done on every album since College Dropout. He also addresses the scrutiny that he’s received over the last few years. In my opinion i feel like that makes the album authentic, because it shows he has self awareness about how the world is viewing him.

I feel like it’s around a 7 - 7.5. Has a lot of great songs (all the love, king, etc) but some bad ones as well (circles). I am happy with how it turned out though after all the stuff that happened last year and the horrible first edition filled with ai but overall a good return to form.

6/10 for me, it’s his second worst solo album

It’s quite forgettable with super short songs and bland and repetitive lyrics
This one here is the best song on the thing by a long shot

Maybe I'm too used to full album playthrough of og?
I love it. Deluxe felt like a miss to me.
I expected more horrendous nightmare with a title like,"Bully "after everything and then it's mostly just tame ye with beats. Which I think was the point. Pretty heavy threshold to push just to make a point.
But he did end up free from contracts...
Not his best but best in a long time
Vultures all felt like ass. Unfinished
Donda felt bloated but I played it nonstop.
Donda 2 has moments but unfinished
Jik in undercooked but gorgeous moments.
Just glad ye stopped chopping the cuss out honestly
I prefer Jesus not doing laundry

It's his best album since TLOP. I genuinely love Donda, but it has too much filler.

Disagree, jik is better than bully either way

JiK has its moments, but it's undercooked.

I disagree. I think it’s perfect and better than yhandi could have ever been.

u/HomeworkBusiness4461 19h ago
for me PERSONALLY it’s one of the best he put out, mostly for the overall mood of the songs and the spot ye was in before dropping it, i think that given the circumstances he gave the best with what he had.

It's worse than every album from the first 20 years of his career

u/Stormmistic 9h ago
Vultures is right there

u/Alienxcool 9h ago
Not counting vultures 1, that's why I said the first 20 years. I'd say his career started a bit before the college dropout

It’s a 8/10 overall but about a 4 by Kanye standards. It’s nowhere near an album like mbdtf, but I’m glad it exists and it was worth putting out. Production is pretty good, some songs just feel a little empty and could have used a couple more full verses from himself or features. I think he had trouble getting other artists on the records due to the controversy, and was also being very mindful to not say anything that could respark the flame. He kind of kept quiet and just showed he still has his gift for production- I think his next album will be a full return to form.

By Kanye's standards? No not really. But I feel that way about all his releases since Donda so I guess this is his new normal unfortunately.

I’d call it mid. After offending everyone made something kinda bland that wouldn’t offend anyone. Meanwhile what made his great albums was in part that he went pretty emotionally raw and crazy on them.

No, It's some BULLshit. I literally haven't returned to it in any capacity since I first listened to it. It's basically the album equivalent of reheating an expired hot pocket from yesteryear, then sprinkling some Great Value spices on it and calling it a "reinvention" and a "much needed return to form". When really, it's a complete step back artistically. However - and when there are cool ideas - they are packaged to be as agreeable as humanly possible. Shit was served straight from the McYeezus dollar menu without a side of fries.
Like if it got deleted from existence tomorrow, what would even be lost? Circles? Oh no! The horror!
