Rant Public debt

Public debt just hit 13.1 trillion. It was 8.7 trillion when he came in office. Our debt ceiling of 10 trillion, made by Parliament in 2024, has been toppled.

If everyone in kenya, new borns included, according to KBS the population is 54,227,015. We'd each pay sh 241,577.01, if we were to pay today.

4 triilion increase is insane, with little to nothing to show for it. But we're the ones who will be burdened with paying.

Huyu jamaa aende tu.

I wonder why it is becoming to hard for them to settle such a debt while everything has gone up ..they are taking the price of everything up day by day and yet they can't settle such a debt..

The unnecessary borrowing imeleta hii yote. Inflation ime increase, more money is circulating, prices are going up. But nothing of value is being made, sources of revenue are not diversified, all they know to do is to introduce new taxes. The odius debt petition in the high court right now is the only thing that can save us.

The national government has refused to cut down expenditure and ballooned our budget. It also borrows faster than it can increase tax revenue leading to large budget deficits, thus more borrowing to plug the gaps.

A huge chunk of the tax revenue is also being used to repay debt, a large chunk of it being the interest payments (while the principal amount remains intact). Add in corruption and ineffective projects expenditure and the situation becomes worse.

They're definitely looting the money.

Our debt ceiling of 10 trillion, made by Parliament in 2024, has been toppled.

Parliament removed the ceiling and capped it to 55% of GDP. But this Kasongo government has taken it to nearly 63%-70%.

By July 2026, our public debt was above 13.2 trillion!

Uhuru left debt to GDP at 68% in 2022.

Yes. But there was a hard cap then which the current government removed and blew past, taking us back to the same percentage of debt-to-gdp ratio.

The 9/10T cap was actually put there in 2019 when that parliament removed the earlier 2012 PFM ACT that had a 50% of GDP debt limit.

Meaning setting the target to 50% + emergency cover of 5% (55%) in 2023 is returning back in practical terms to the earlier ACT and to the EAC standard.

Problem is that the new cap, even older one, was not adhered to. Parliament did us a disservice here.

Do you understand why the ceiling was revised? How do u expect public services and wages and development projects to be financed when the debt servicing cost eats 70% of government revenues? Ama u like to blame Ruto on every problem Uhuru created 🤦‍♂️

But he collects way more than Uhuru, he borrows way more than Uhuru, he steals way more than Uhuru. Both are bastard who took our country down the drain since 2013. Ruto was Uhurus DP who even defended the borrowing. Husikuwe mjinga boys

News flash: unmanageable and expensive debt has to be refinanced and paid by new debt. No matter how much is collected, half goes to paying back Uhurus debt.

So because Uhuru dug a deep hole, the solution is for the current government to grab a bigger shovel and push debt past Ksh 13 trillion? Both things can be true. Uhuru created the structural debt trap, but the current regime promised a economic turnaround instead of accelerating past the legal 55% GDP anchor.

Ama u like to blame Ruto on every problem Uhuru created 🤦‍♂️

Don't be deliberately obtuse!

Pandora papers came and went. Name one corrupt politician behind doors since the time of moi. Clearly politicians know they can bend the law or even amputate it when it comes to corruption.

More than half of the 4 Trillion ( 2.5T) was used to repay maturing debt from 2013 - 2016. There's still more Eurobond debt peaking in 2027-2028. Some of it got restructured with a buyback so it's not a single big $ billion payment like the one that caused the default panic in 2024.

So in matters debt Uhuru did far worse in managing it.

This year's borrowing will add another 1T plus

This is very concerning. Politicians need to be punished for their bad decisions. But in Kenya, they are rewarded

USA is 40 trillion usd in debt. Working as intended. This system was never meant to balance the book.

How is when he came to office is relevant for the debt? You do realize that 8.7 trillions need to be paid with interest and refinanced on a budget that is already in deficit where close 70% of government revenues go paying these previous 8.7 trillion debt and the new debt taken to finance the deficit!

This is how dumb voters think 🤦‍♂️

How is when he came to office is relevant for the debt?

Because 90 percent of the debt accrued during his tenure has been loans being acquired and misused. And the same dog was in the previous government so both ways he's accountable for the loans.

If the new debt was being taken to finance the old debt, why does it still keep going up? Not once have we heard of any good progress from the Kasongo government, only loan deadlines that they keep begging to be extended.

You're the dumb voter in this mix chief for supporting this government, don't you ever forget it.
