Looking [L] I feel like I can't talk about my problems

I'm 18f and for the longest time I so badly didn't want to be seen as attention seeking or annoying by talking about my problems to people, like having depression or honestly anything. But now I feel like I literally can't talk about anything emotional with people. Over the summer I was having a vacation with some of my closest friends, and they were sharing personal things, and they asked me and I just couldn't say anything. Today again another friend asked me something specific and I really did want to tell her but I just can't. Idek

After spending so much time learning to handle my emotions myself or having to it has become difficult for me as well. As a human though I know that there has to be human connection in order to feel. So ive taught myself that if its a deep no for me I will listen to it but if its a mild discomfort then I will open up and talk about myself. Why? Because we all deserve basic decency and to be heard. Feeling uncomfortable doesn't always mean bad, sometimes it means you're doing something you're not familiar with.

I totally get you. I’m the same way. I found that it was harder to open up to my friends irl vs people online but honestly it just takes time to open up to people. The right person will get you to open up and feel comfy enough to tell them stuff.

It takes time to learn to open up. To feel safe opening up. You closed off over the years because no one made you feel safe or welcomed enough to be open. That’s not your fault. So don’t punish yourself for struggling now. Just take it slow and slowly let people in. It will get easier the more you do.
