Admin [META] Kind Friend Updates / Chat GPT and Yo[u]

Hello Community,

I hope you are all doing well, or atleast a little better than yesterday. I wanted to put a post up around some recent changes and behaviour in the sub.

r/KindFriend has been privated.

Kind Friend was originally created as a sister sub to Kindvoice to handle more friendship orientated requests while Kindvoice focused on emotional support. Recently it seems to have caught to the attention of a number of bad actors. The posts had been gradually trending to a younger audience and I was becoming increasingly concerned that it was facilitating people looking to take advantage of these members. As such the sub is currently privated to prevent access and any further risk. I would encourage those seeking purely friendships to try more established subs such as r/makenewfriendshere or r/needafriend. This behaviour has thankfully not transferred over to r/Kindvoice.

Previously friendship posts had been against the rules of KindVoice, although not strictly enforced given that a lot of the time a good friend can make a world of difference to someone's current state. We intend to continue the current status quo in this regard and deal with friendship posts on a case by case basis as it makes a minority of posts. I would highly encourage users to use more focused subs for this if seeking purely friendship. If you are reaching out for a friend because you feel lonely or want to improve social skills, that post still has a place here. Just please be aware many offerors are volunteering their time when they can and should not be considered a permanent support placement or lifelong friend.

Chat GPT Usage

Over the past few months ChatGPT started recommending us as a place for lonely users or those who were feeling down to seek human contact. Alongside this we saw a dramatic increase in the number of bots, monetary requests and ChatGPT generated posts. We have literally gone from a few bans a month to a few a day.

- Accounts with less than 5 comment karma or less than 3 days old will now be caught in a filter for approval. I appreciate some people don't want to post here on main so a mod mail will be raised for each submission caught in the filter so they can be approved.

- Chat GPT is NOT against the rules currently HOWEVER PLEASE BE AWARE that many people come here looking for a human voice. You may believe that in writing an answer via Chat GPT you sound more articulate or better at supporting. In reality the message it often conveys to the looker that they can't find someone who is even willing to use their own words. Comments may be removed if they feel too robotic when the person is looking for a connection.

Final Notes

I would love to hear any community feedback on these points.

A huge thanks as always to the people that donate their time to help others. Look after yourselves where you can.

-AJ

[META] Seeking C[o]mmunity Feedback on Rule 2

I hope all of the Kind Voices out there are having a wonderful day and that my message finds all of the Lookers slightly better than they were yesterday.

This post is to gather some feedback from any willing community members around rule 2. Recently I have been rather lax on it's enforcement given r/KindFriend isn't hugely active (although it's had a surge recently) however I am aware there are a number of other very popular subreddits that fill the same niche so I want to ask your thoughts:

- Do you mind friendship based posts on this subreddit or would you rather keep them to other spaces?

- Do you feel requests asking for daily supports fall into this category?

- Any other thoughts you may have.

Looking [L] 22f struggling every day

I have depression, anxiety, cptsd, autism and hallucinations along side physical health issues. The past 2 months have been hell. I've been through a bad breakup which still feels like it's killing me, lost all my fsmily due to cutting them off for my own sake the only family I tried to keep (my little sister) has now been forbidden from seeing me, I've had another miscarriage after one earlier this year, I have no friends, I'm isolated and can't even get myself out of bed unless it's to do something for my dog. I feel so alone and every night feels worse and worse. The voices are getting louder, therapy is only focusing on my anxiety, I can't sleep without someone there and I have no one. I've never felt so lonely in my life. Honestly could just use some company, maybe someone to talk to about it to prove I'm not insane because I feel it. I'm trying to function bur I just cant. I just meed someone kind to talk to but no luck to find it.

Offering [o]How to heal from an unfair failure?

In the past, I joined a school in my final year. I was personally good at Maths and I studied it a lot.

During our end of semester exams, some of us, including me, were sacked from the exam hall because we owed school fees.

The Maths paper was 2 hours to complete, but just 10 minutes into the paper, I was sacked. Causing me to get 5 out of 100. I wasn't the only person who was sacked.

On the day they shared the scripts, some students peeked into my paper to see what I got. Is like they've forgotten I was sacked or something. They started spreading I'm not good after all. Is like they were waiting for me to fail or something.

Even the teacher looked at me in a certain way.

It has been years, but it still hurts me. How do I heal from this? I'm doing great now but that memory still hurts me. 5 over 100 with 40 multiple choice. Hmmm.. so unfair.

Looking [l] Can't be depressed. Have a toddler.

I’m not really sure how to say this, but I’m hoping to find someone who understands what I’m going through.

I guess I’m just really lonely and want someone to talk to.

I’m a mom, and lately I’ve been trying to come to terms with the fact that life isn’t going to turn out the way I thought it would.
I think one of the hardest things is being promised a complete family, believing in that future, and then realizing that you’re pretty much on your own and sometimes I can’t help but think about how unfair it is, especially as a woman and a mother.

How you don’t really get the luxury of falling apart because there’s a little person who still needs you every day.

I’m not even sure I’m angry anymore or maybe I am, but I’m just tired of being angry.
Tired of being disappointed, tired of wishing things were different, and tired of thinking about how unfair everything feels.

I’m slowly learning that sometimes things are just the way they are. You can be sad about it, you can be angry about it, but it doesn’t necessarily change anything and at some point, you have to figure out how to keep living anyway.

I don’t necessarily want advice or to be told that things will get better. I just want to talk to someone who understands depression, loneliness, disappointment, and that weird stage of acceptance where you’re not exactly happy, but you’re trying to make peace with your reality.

Especially if you’re a single parent or have gone through something similar.
I guess I just want to feel a little less alone tonight.

[L] Feeling lost in the world.

Hello. I'm a woman from Europe.

Life feels lonely as of late. Its so hard to make friends as it is, I've never really had many people in my life, so when I met my online friend life felt like it had colour.

I thought we clicked so well but they ghosted me. I didn't realise how alone I was until I met them, and when they ghosted me I wasn't expecting the deafening silence that is my life.

I feel lost.

I could really use some conversations with good people, show me there's some good out there in the world? I really need it.

Looking [L] (25M) I'm gonna sleep out in the cold tonight, anyone I can vent to?

Since I'm still homeless and we're transitioning to the fall, temperatures are dropping and as a result it's getting colder at night and harder to sleep. Last night it was super windy and it was really hard to get any sleep, but tonight is somehow going to be even colder.

Also, I applied for a job at an Amazon Warehouse and got rejected immediately, so I'm bummed about that as well.

Tonight is going to suck so I'm asking if anyone is willing to hear me vent so I can mentally prepare for the rough night tonight. No one under 18, 21+ preferred.

30M, I'll listen to you. Let me know if you're anxious/awkward/need to practice socializing/sleepy etc. No need to worry or hesitate, whatever is on your mind first. Just let me know a bit about you so I know what/who to expect.

Often told I have a soothing voice but you can be the judge

Open for about 2 hours

[L] Anyone else understand their issues perfectly in therapy but still feel numb?

After surgery and some trauma, I went through months of therapy. I can explain my patterns, my triggers, all of it. I sound like I have it together. But I still feel numb all the time, like I'm watching my life instead of living in it. Does anyone else have this where you understand everything in your head but still feel disconnected from your body or your emotions? Not sure if it's a therapy thing or something else.

Looking [L] Does anyone else feel lost and lonely in life just like me ?

I don’t really know where to start. I’ve been feeling a bit down lately, and I guess I just need somewhere to let my feelings out.
I’m currently unemployed, and to be honest, I’m scared of going back to work because of past trauma from previous workplaces. I’ve also developed trust issues with people, and sometimes the thought of having to start over in a new workplace feels overwhelming.
My relationship with my family isn’t great either. Things with my mum can be quite toxic, and now I’m living in another country with my partner, far away from my family.
I thought moving away and starting a new life with my partner would make me really happy. I thought we’d understand each other and that I’d finally feel at home. But the reality isn’t always like that. Sometimes we’re good, and sometimes things happen that leave me feeling upset and misunderstood. There are times when I wish my partner could understand how I feel, but I don’t always know how to explain it.
The hardest part is that I don’t really have any friends in real life whom I can open up to. Most of the time, I just keep everything to myself and cry alone.
Sometimes I miss the old days when I was a kid. I miss the feeling of being younger, before life became so complicated. I don’t know if I’m looking back at those memories through rose-coloured glasses, but sometimes I just wish I could go back to a time when things felt simpler.
Right now, I feel so small and helpless. I don’t have much, I’m not where I want to be in life, and I honestly don’t know what I’m supposed to do next. I look at myself and feel like a failure. I wish I could be better, stronger, and more capable of handling life.
Sometimes I even wish I could win the lottery and buy myself some happiness. I know money can’t solve everything, and maybe that sounds silly, but I think I just want the freedom to stop worrying so much and finally breathe.
I wish I had someone I could lean on, someone who would listen and understand without making me feel like I’m a burden.
I don’t really have a question or a solution I’m looking for. I just feel lonely, lost, and tired of keeping everything inside.
Does anyone else ever feel this way? Like you’re trying your best to build a life for yourself, but somehow you still feel unhappy, alone, and unsure of where you’re going?
I just want to know I’m not the only one who feels like this.

Looking [L] 33m just need to talk or vent about my daughter and ex-wife

So basically my ex got remarried and they are presenting like this happy perfect couple everybody gets along. My daughter says her new stepdad is awesome and great and wonderful blah blah blah but I guess it’s still kind of hurts maybe. I have a great relationship with my daughter so I don’t feel like I’m being replaced, but it still feels weird. Is this normal?

Been a while but never left my people alone [o]

To anyone who may need this:

Over the past few years, I've been offering peer support to people going through difficult times. Sometimes, what helps most isn't advice it's simply having someone who listens without judgment. I've also completed a certification in Cognitive Therapy through Alison, which has helped me approach conversations with greater empathy and structure.

Opening up isn't easy. It's normal to worry about being judged or misunderstood. My goal is to provide a respectful, supportive and confidential space where you can share what's on your mind.

I'm happy to listen if you're dealing with:

• Anxiety or feeling overwhelmed

• Low mood or stress

• Relationship or friendship challenges

• Self-esteem or confidence issues

• Major life changes

• Grief or other emotional struggles

You don't have to share your real name. If you're comfortable let me know your age so I can better understand your perspective.

A few important things:

• I'm not a licensed therapist, psychologist, or counselor. I offer peer support not professional mental health treatment.

• If you're in crisis or believe you may be at risk of harming yourself or someone else please contact a trusted adult, local emergency services or a qualified mental health professional as soon as possible.

• I'll always encourage professional help when it's needed.

More than 250 people reached out through my previous posts and many said that simply being heard made them feel a little less alone.

If you've been thinking about reaching out maybe this is your sign.

You deserve support and you don't have to face everything alone.

Looking [L] I’m 25, my family is falling apart, I have no direction in life, and I'm exhausted from pretending I'm okay.

I'm 25, in the final year of my BA History degree, and I genuinely don't know what I'm doing with my life anymore.
Things at home have been getting progressively worse. My parents' marriage is deteriorating, my dad has been staying at his office for days at a time, and my family depends on him financially. My relationship with both my parents is getting worse, too. My mother constantly compares me to relatives and family friends, while my father compares where I am in life to where he was at my age. I feel like I'm perpetually disappointing everyone.
College isn't helping. Most lectures are online, the teaching isn't great, I barely interact with classmates, and I'm approaching graduation without a clear career path. I don't want to spend my life competing for jobs I don't care about, working just to survive, or being measured against other people's achievements. But I also don't know what a realistic alternative looks like.
Outside college, I've become increasingly isolated. I barely go out, I don't have many people I can talk to openly, and I'm constantly anticipating something else going wrong—whether it's my family, my future, or the wider world. It's exhausting to feel like you're waiting for the next disaster while you're already struggling to get through ordinary days.
The worst part is that I've reached a point where I genuinely don't want to be alive anymore. I'm not posting this because I expect a stranger on the internet to solve my life. I just don't know where else to put all of this, and I'm tired of pretending that I'm fine.
If you've ever reached a point where your family, career, finances and outlook on life all feel hopeless at once, how did you get through it? I'm not looking for motivational slogans or someone to tell me to work harder. I need an honest conversation.

Looking [L] 23F looking to talk to someone

I have made some questionable choices in my life. To be transparent I ended up becoming the affair partner. I understand it's a heavy topic and also that I am the bad person here.

I am stating it here because it is my relationship I want to talk about and I don't want to spring it on someone... I don't have anyone I can't talk about this in person... Please feel free to DM me if you have time for me...

Looking [L] There's nothing

Nothingness.

Nothing but loneliness, anxiety and desperately trying to cling onto the idea of being able to carry on.

It hurts.

And there's no one you can tell.

Because responses, reactions, the true responses, will range from indifference over disdain to hatred.

There are people who prey on you, just waiting for a moment of weakness to "reconnect" only for them to dump their same old negativity onto you at the very first opportunity.

Which is why you broke up with them in the first place.

How do I go on from here?

Looking [L] I made a mistake at work and now I can't stop overthinking it. I could really use some reassurance

Yesterday I made a mistake at work. It's something that can be fixed, but I now have to deal with a client who is very sharp and knows how to put people under pressure.

What scares me most is having to face him and deal with his reaction. I keep imagining all the things he might say, how he might react, and how uncomfortable that conversation could be.

I'm also anxious because my coworkers will find out about the mistake. I'm afraid they'll judge me or think I'm not good at my job.

The frustrating part is that nothing has really happened yet, but I'm already living through every possible negative scenario in my head.

Rationally, I know it's just a work mistake. I'll have to deal with it, fix what I can, and move on. But I can't seem to stop thinking about it.

Have you ever made a mistake at work and then spent hours or days worrying about facing the people involved or being judged by your coworkers? How did you get through it?

I could really use some reassurance and hearing from people who have been through something similar.
