My Kitten
Kitten keeps touching my nose with her nose
I’ve had my kitten for just under a month she has been letting me hold her and every time I do first thing she does is touch my nose with her nose, when I’ve looked it up says it’s how they say hello but I have been with her all day working from home.
is it affection or is she just sniffing me?
*** thank you everyone, I’ve never had a post with so much attention I’m not an active Reddit user, my kitten Smokey is currently asleep at the side of me im glad she is trusting me and loving me. After some nose boops she has been more affectionate tonight then attacked my hand/arm in playful way. I lost my soul dogs almost 5 and 3 years old I didn’t think I could love another pet but she is my baby although 5am wake up calls make me question my life choices. ***
My cat bites my nose to give kisses. I always kiss her nose/muzzle and I think she's mimicking it, she always purrs when she does it, but it hurts and I feel bad whenever I flinch away.
It might be unnerving having a big ol’ noggin coming them 😆 if I put myself in their paw pads I would feel a lot more comfortable coming toward a human head than the other way around
My Mommy Tat was greeted for the first time at a homeless shelter. I assumed she was abandoned to the street because she started purring when I tried to let her rub her scent on my fingers. Her two boys who I didn't know were on the way (she didn't look preggo) rub their face on me and kiss me nose to nose. I don't know where Mommy Tat went before the kitty cops caught her and put her in the shelter but whatever happened means I'm not allowed a kissy. 😐 Fortunately her two boys aren't ever going to be outsidy so they randomly get kissy and affectionate. Enjoy it if the kitty wants to mark their human with such an affectionate gesture!
When I first got my kitty, it took him a week or so to get used to me (and me to him, quite frankly). Then one day, he came up to me, put his paws on both my cheeks and touched his nose to mine. I Googled, found out it was a kitty kiss and instantly fell in love.
After 50 years of being a cat servant, I never had nose boopers until my current pair. Never has a human nose been so thoroughly and enthusiastically booped. Makes me melt 🥰
I have my Calico for two months now, she lets me hold her short amount of times and carry her around. She sleeps in our bed sometimes and she comes running like a dog when I get home frome work and get out of my car
But she does not poop my noes or lays on me ever 😑 I would love to have a purring kitten on my lap, but it seems that's not her thing
Give it time, my lads are 3 and a half now and I've had them since they were kittens. One has become the most affectionate little idiot all the time and the other one saves it all up for a massive burst of affection then slinks back to judging me from on high
My cat when she was younger was like yours, following us around the house but not wanting to cuddle. As your cat gets older they may become more cuddly!! All of our cats after they've reached around 7, become more cuddly and wanting to spend time with us petting them.
Some of my herd still do nose kisses, but if I’m late with dinner (in her mind), my girl Mishi walks up my chest as I’m sitting and mashes her whole face into my nose to remind me.
My foster kitten does this with me. I’m her favorite. I’m the only one that can pick her up without a fuss and she bops noses with me. It’s not going to be a foster fail, I promise
I started looking after a semi-feral cat, and since then, I began learning cat language/behavior. You’ll be surprised at how different they are at communicating.
It would be a great idea to learn more about how they interact and react and whatnot.
Head boops are the most divine connection with a cat!
There is research that suggests that cats release pheromones when they boop you, and while humans can’t detect/ respond to these pheromones, we still experience a calming sensation
So cute. And like other people have said, her slightly "mad" face? Idk how to describe it... my cat does the same thing and its her "i love you and want pets" face and doesnt do it to anyone else
The reason cats do this is because when they’re born, they rely only on their sense of smell to find their mother’s milk and siblings because their eyes are closed at birth. so this is identifying you as an important person in their life.
One of our cats does the nose boops but very enthusiastically. She knocks my glasses off most days but I know she loves us and is my emotional support animal
My cat does this when she is in her super relaxed, cuddle mode (eyes half open, purring). I call it her “kissies”. She lets me kiss all over her face and head and I imagine she’s doing it back when she touches her nose to my face.
I know people say cats aren’t affectionate, but they’re like humans, in the way that they have different personalities and some are way more affectionate than others. I’ve had cats my whole life.
It’s cat kisses! Cats do gentle headbutts to each other to show affection. This is a pic of two of my TNR friends who are besties. When a human gets a headbutt or nose boop, it’s a real honour.
They sniff and exchange breathe with each other to figure out if a new cat is good, healthy, receptive, etc. You need to breathe back. You may just get a head boop out of it.
This is on the list with what I call “mind melding”. This is where they put their head to your forehead and stay there a bit. I’ve had a few cats that do it. OP your kitten loves you very much!
Op; I love all the attention this cat is giving you, and you probably do too. If you don’t want 5am wake up calls, get an automated feeder. Seriously was a game changer for me!
