Question/Advice Needed Need to be explained kittenhood
Hello! I hope this post is allowed. Our sweet 8 year old diva passed away in July. She had unknown kidney issues and we found out too late. We are looking to open our home to two kittens when the time is right. When I got motley I felt like cats were just kind of like house plants and they would learn how to do what to do. Motley ended up great but definitely not because of me! I was 14 and didn’t know much. We are looking to get a kitten or two in spring. We got a puppy last November who grew up around our cat and has been so depressed since she passed. They were the best of buddies.
I need to know all about kittenhood. How to train what it should look like etc. I have no clue. Like should we get two or should we get one because we have the dog. We want two so if two is better we will go that route. Just any tips tricks or anything anyone has! I’m reading Jackson galaxy’s book to get a good start going.
Thank you!

You want 2 kittens. This better for them & for you & you dog. Kittens who grow up with siblings (they don't need to be biological siblings, just close to the same age) learn how to play, interact, and empathize with others - cats, humans, dogs, etc. When they play too rough with their sibling, their sibling lets them know in ways they can understand more readily. So, when you play with them they have a general idea of what hurts - you'll still have to set some human boundaries, but they'll understand them better.
We just adopted 2 kittens & we already have an 18-year-old old-man cat. The kittens play for a few hours & then they seek out Grandpa Stanley for cuddle nap time. Rinse & repeat all day long. Stanley is getting the cat interaction he needs and the kittens are getting to be terrorists without driving anyone completely insane.
Kittens like to climb. If you don't want them climbing your curtains then get them cat trees or cat shelves. Kittens & cats will scratch surfaces to "sharpen" their claws. Provide lots of surfaces (cat trees, scratching posts, etc.) they can use for this. If you catch them clawing the couch, pick them up, take them to one of the approved surfaces and use their paws to scratch it. Repetition will be paramount for this, but they will eventually learn. If you keep 2-3 clean litter boxes then you should have no problem with them not using the litter box.
Get 2 kittens. You, your family, your dog, & your future kittens will thank you.

Oh, sorry! The part where they said, "We are looking to get a kitten or two" and the other place where they said, "Like should we get two or should we get one because we have the dog" led me to believe they were asking for advice on how many to get. My bad!

OP was definitely asking for guidance on whether two or one was better with the dog. Your response was valid lol. Chiming in because this a pet peeve.

Get two. They will probably become best buddies,
and your dog may make it a trio. Enjoy!
