Agreed. I prefer no commercials, but cool zone podcasts do them pretty minimally and easily skippably so I don't mind.

All I've been getting for months has been prep, female viagra that kills you stone dead if taken with alcohol, & a shared calendar for devorcees. I'm glad they stopped with the one that starts with the lady yelling "SEX TOYSSSSS", I was getting concerned that it was audible to people on the machines next to me in the gym via my bone conducting headphones.

God, the "SEX TOYS!!!" one was unhinged to have as an ad, I'm so glad I haven't had that one in months. The Reagan gold was apparently on episodes of Cool People ca.2023, and I've been jumping around on that one and Margaret and Sophie have joked about them. Lately I've mostly been getting ads for other iHeart podcasts, advertised as though I should already be interested in people I've never heard of.

Yeah, like I would love zero commercials, but this seems like it will allow Dan to put out the content he wants. And that first episode was fantastic (or maybe I was just having withdrawals) so I’ll take having to hit the skip button back to have Dan back doing his research.

He said he missed it, and it seems like the case, because he put out a 3 hour episode and was fairly delighted every moment of it.

I'm happy for him. Hopefully after a decade of letting his brain marinate in the right wing cesspool for the betterment of society he finally makes some cash and can buy Celeine a house and fund some more road trips!

Jordan said at least once that their decision to not have commercials was "stupid. So completely fucking stupid".

Even just one commercial break up top of every episode and they both probably could have paid off their student loans and bought homes rather than renting and middle class dreamy stuff like that.

I respect their dedication of remaining impartial to monied influence, but hopefully Dan can live the moderately comfortable and financially secure life he deserves after pulling 80 hour weeks for a decade in exchange for a hat pass.

Also, outside of lawsuit threats (which would have happened other way) iHeart seems not to care about what they say at all. Like, Robert has badmouthed iHeart and things that became iHeart in episodes. Gare has talked about unionizing against iHeart on a podcast.

I can't imagine that they are going to put their foot down on anything Dan says, when Robert suggested visiting your enemies with piss filled supersoakers.

Like it or not, being listener supported also takes work. And it seems like work Dan didn't want to do anymore.

He has insurance, doesn't have to feel bad if he takes a week off, and doesn't have to do any of the back end stuff.

This is key for me. I can tolerate less interruptions in longer blocks. I feel bad for the people who can’t skip the ads while listening but tbh the way it was structured they didn’t bother me much.

I started a Cooler Zone free trial to avoid the ads but they still have the musical ques playing leading up to and out of ads and I felt like it was happening a lot.

It's a great one too!

Molly Conger is a fantastic guest, and she clearly enjoys being in the passenger seat

Her own podcast Weird Little Guys is seriously fantastic too. She covers such intense and important topics that I have to limit myself to like 2-3 episodes only every so often because too many start making me a little too Nazi punchy to be able to concentrate and be effective at my job

Excited for what's to come, but I found Jess a painfully dull subject for a first episode. Nothing you haven't heard a million times before from assholes. I actually started listening to another podcast before I remembered I was halfway listening through KFC. Think I'm kinda looking for more high stakes people to focus on, or seriously wacky. But I enjoyed listening to Molly. She was engaged and was putting the effort in to at least Google as they were going along. Interested to see who else Dan brings in.

I always hear people say this about Iheart/CZM shows and it’s not an issue I have literally ever had. I listened to this entire episode with not a single commercial. I do pay for Spotify premium, is that the difference?

Are you US based? Maybe it's different outside the US. I have premium and there were definitely ads. For whatever it's worth, I dont have a huge issue with the ads. I skip then anyway. I know it's not always convenient if youre listening without easy access to the controls, though.

Edit: to add clarity, I am in the US and did have ads, with premium.

Spotify definitely has more ads than something like Pocket Cast even with premium. There is also a subscription for no ads but it’s only with Apple.

I live in the US currently, but my phone is an overseas model and all my settings and accounts and everything like that were set up when I lived overseas, so you might be right that’s the difference. I know that advertising laws and things are stricter where I’m from.

They're unbearable when the hosts spend 5 minutes pretending to love multivitamins, used clothes stores and cat food that gives their cat nicer shits

I mean, yes but it's an inconvenience, if minor. You fast foward, but you go too far then you back off into an ad but you need a couple second to place if it's an ad etc.

I know the situation is seemingly different per feed or such but I do find those IHM ad tunnels incredibly long.

If you’re on iOS you can use the drea podcast app to strip them out. You’ll still have the music intro/outros to the ads but it’s better than nothing.

Download the Drea app if you’re on IOS (it’s free). Download the episode, then hit the little waveform button. It will scan the podcast to identify ad timestamps (if somebody else hasn’t already done so), then when you play it back it auto skips ads. Gamechanger for CZM pods

It’s $5 a month to not hear ads on any of the CZM shows. You can subscribe with Apple Podcasts or Spotify. I listen to all of their shows ad free and it’s the best $5 I spend every month.

I was pleasantly surprised 6.5/10. Has Tucker fallen off this guest was the complete bottom of the barrel.

On a more serious note I appreciate Dan highlighting that Tucker was abusing the guest. Its the difference between KF(C) and the shows they cover.

Its just a denoiser. They clearly recorded the episodes and then noticed a problem (probably a buzzing noise or something similar) and threw a denoiser filter on it.

I edit videos and podcasts. Audio problems happen to even the most professional of productions. Just part of the game.

There have been knowledge fight episodes where both Dan and Jordan separately had audio issues in the past.

It happens. Its not something to worry about, im sure by the next episode it will be figured out.
