This is unironically one of the only good subreddits on this entire site
If not for KIA and maybe TrueUnpopularOpinion, I'd have stopped using this garbage site a long time ago.
Every other community is run by power-tripping basement dwellers who will censor and tone-police whatever you say. I'm not even talking about ones that are primarily focused on politics, I'm talking about EVERY SINGLE ONE. You're required to behave like you're in an HR meeting, down to the words you choose to use. One of my posts (Which had hundreds of upvotes by the time of its removal), was removed yesterday solely for saying "mogged." Another time, I was permanently banned from a sub for lonely people because I'm active here. I didn't even break any rules. Oh yeah, the same thing happened in one about a disability I have because I used a no-no word (The "r word" in this particular case), to describe myself.
Half the time, I can't even submit anything before a bot scrubs it automatically.
This is the only place I feel welcome. Thank you to whoever created it.

It's keeping me sane bro. And the guys and girls here are genuinely nice.
28
u/LivingGirlRepellant 17h ago
Same here. And yeah, people here are incredibly chill. I've not once experienced the usual harassment and witch-hunting on here.

u/OGawdILoveTacos 9h ago
As much as I hate admins and this site, I'm glad they had enough brains in their heads to allow you to hide specific subs on your profile instead of all of them.
Hide all of them then everyone instantly thinks you're a rightwing nazi hiding, or bla bla bla. Being able to hid KIA, asmongold, GGdiscussion though and keep everything else visible means my account just looks like a pretty average account that just goes to hobby subs.
Having this sub or those like it is just instant ammo for the retards around this site to not even try to debate you, but instantly attack; sad but true.
They're just upset because they know we're right but refuse to accept it, they even go beyond that and try to destroy these places because they're authoritarian assholes.

u/jojojajo12 17h ago
Except when you talk about the MCU and they all reveal that they continue being shills.
1
u/YingYangWoz 16h ago
Atleast sometimes they have something that’s a decent watch but it’s not as bad as Phase 4 or 5 of the MCU that was some real buffalo diarrhoea shit

"At least my husband doesn't use the leash to hit me now, just his bare hands, he's changing."

u/All_Usernames_Tooken 11h ago
Or if one of the characters has an ounce of gayness SOME people on here get really offended. The rest of very nice and respectful.
2
u/JustOneAmongMany Knitta, please! 11h ago
There are a few assholes and fanatics here, like there are everywhere else. The difference is that this place won't ban or dogpile you for saying something that isn't part of The Message. It's why I still post here.

There was some sort of game releasing a few days ago on one of the bigger gaming subreddits and it had a whole lot of purple in its artwork (just the color, nothing weird on a first glance) which led me to asking why we see so much of that color recently and people got really mad and defensive. I wasn't actually interested in making fun of games like that, it was supposed to be an honest question why people think that is.
No responses other than idiotic "jokes" and questioning where all the purple in games is supposed to be and downvotes and aggressive defense ... It's a lost cause, no real communication possible any more.
20
u/nothinfollowsme 17h ago
My best guess is the people whinging were butthurt because in their perpetually online reality and in their heads, you were attacking/criticising one of the sacred "colors" of the rainbow. Which is a "no-no" in certain subs.
6
u/Guessididntmakeit 16h ago
Probably and yeah, I see how it can be understood like that but in that specific case it was just an honest observation with the added question why that is.
We see this a lot with orange and blue combinations, those stick out, they appear brighter together and therefore "pop" more. There is a science behind it and I get the reason.
The color purple by itself doesn't have that effect so I was hoping to get some comment that would shed some light on this design trend.

I think that would be a fair question. Why overuse a color just for the sake of it? Unless the person really love the color purple(it happens) maybe you just got people who really liked purple I guess. We will just blame Prince for it I guess.

True. Look at the colors red(which mc donalds uses still) and orange(whataburger, a Texas burger chain), which iirc trigger the appetite at a psychological level because of those colors. I always found that interesting. Blue iirc, is supposed to be a "cooling" color, which lowers defenses because it conveys "relaxation/calm".
The color purple by itself doesn't have that effect so I was hoping to get some comment that would shed some light on this design trend.
Well it is reddit. Someone will get offended over something(especially a larger subreddit where the echo-chambering is pretty high) and it be a nothingburger because they were mad because someone on the internet earlier told them that they were wrong!

But remember, YOU are the one engaging in culture war nonsense, not them!
21
u/stillgaming8k 17h ago
I use TrueUnpopularOpinion too. I agree that it's also one of the best subreddits for free speech.
26
u/LivingGirlRepellant 17h ago edited 17h ago
I actually used to moderate it briefly a few years ago on a different account. The guys running it care about free speech and only remove stuff when the admins are literally breathing down their neck(s). I remember they would basically message us and say "You HAVE to remove these kinds of viewpoints or else we will ban your subreddit." Basically mafia tactics.
3
u/Exciting-Meat-1381 11h ago
Ironic the reddit slogan is "frontpage of the internet"
41
u/mrhorseshoe 16h ago
I wonder why someone hasn't made an alternative reddit with a more moderate-leaning moderation staff. I'm not even conservative, but the extremist left-leaning moderation is disturbing.
42
u/slipknotbg 16h ago
Because it will be infiltrated and conquered as everything else.
11
u/Succubia 13h ago edited 12h ago
Sadly yes. The radical left has invaded most gaming and other internet culture places. Even in France it's very much the same
17
u/Jefedagga 13h ago
Because the our side sucks at fighting back.
They like to complain but thats kind of it. "DOESNT MATTER. IT WILL JUST GET TAKEN OVER BY THE WOKE SIDE ANYWAY" this is what you see on this side and its annoying.
I wish the woke clowns would have been like this lol. But unfortunately they fight and sure, they fight dirty, but at least they do something.
10
u/PM_ME_AWESOME_SONGS 12h ago
I wonder if it's not that our side is bad at fighting back, it's just that we don't have time for this. Most of us probably work and have to take care of our families, so culture war and stuff is secondary and we rely mostly on numbers. Wokies are infamous for being spoiled brats supported by their parents or being simply nepo babies that always fail upwards.
8
u/OhHolyCrapNo 10h ago
It's because the majority of "our side" aren't online fighting culture war battles. They're just out in the real world doing actual things
2
u/TheSittingTraveller 10h ago
But that would make it easy for the left to brainwash their young children.
So unless they don't give their kids internet, they're screwed.
11
u/DMaster86 11h ago
The problem is that most normal people have a life. A family, a job, hobbies, friends and the time to do battles online is simply not there.
On the other hand you have a bunch of unemployed activists with no life that spend their life doing that.

1
u/antariusz 1h ago
Because the ultimate power structures (the admins) will ensure that it happens eventually.
Even KIA has to kowtow over certain unmentionable topics that are too taboo. The funny thing about 4th wave feminism is they have the basic facts right, intersectionality is reality. It’s just that they get wrong “who” are in charge of implementing the systemic institutional racism and sexism and authoritarian fascism.
4
u/TheHat2 10h ago
It's been tried multiple times. Voat, SaidIt, and .win being most notable examples. Just never had a big enough audience.
6
u/OGawdILoveTacos 9h ago
Yea, its been pretty well established at this point that if you didn't create your site back in the early 2010s and it got big within 5 years, it's not making it.
Same with discord alternatives, it's too established and too many are on it. Unless they suddenly start doing something insanely controversial like ramming porn down everyone's throat, they aren't going to die and people aren't going to move to another site.
I actually worked with the first devs of saidit when they wanted to make a mobile app years ago and I made them a pretty bla one but it worked (just a website wrapper was all I made, lmao). I lost any desire to keep working on it because I knew it wasn't going anywhere and I just had no drive because of that fact.
Wish elon would just buy this site already so it either dies or gets cleaned out like twitter did.
1
u/Negirno 9h ago
The .win sites are full of actual racism, misogyny and antisemitism. At least on the KiA subs there. Almost all the other subs are ghost towns.
I don't know if the users there are wokie trolls who bring the site down, or terminally online people from "our side".
Either way, it's a lost cause.
2
u/TheHat2 9h ago
I'd guess the latter, personally.
There was also Lemmy, but I dunno if that's still a thing, or if there were any KiA offshoots there. Basically Bluesky but for Reddit, if that gives you any indication of the audience...
1
2
u/MyLittlePuny 15h ago
They either become infected and conquered or become right wing moral purity grounds instead.
The only hope is someone moderate making their own site/forum and keep it moderate.
16
u/gummytoejam 16h ago
Reddit is largely a one way media for me, like TV. I flip through the sub reddits like I used to flip through the channels.
When Reddit got rid of random, it was so they could corral you into specific subreddits and block your ability to find new, better ones.
7
u/Huge-Guidance-1637 14h ago
It is interesting how much modern social media is focused on sorting users into silos that rarely if ever interact with one another. Reddit in particular had to make a lot of changes to reach this point as the original design was about discovery and interaction. Like you said, they removed random. They also changed /all multiple times to suppress specific subs and even entire classes of subs. They became very firm with anti-"brigading," even though crossposting used to be very pushed. It's also interesting that all of this happened while a small number of moderators took over the bulk of the established subreddits.
Twitter and facebook have done similar things. I guess it's easier to control what content is and isn't seen by the masses once you've established a firewall that can be selectively lowered as needed.
9
u/Daihaiseisai 17h ago
I've lost count to how many times someone seemingly well-minded suddenly starts dropping words like bigotry, incels, dogwhistle and such. Oh, and no one uses the word sex, it's always "gender" for some reason. Weird place indeed.
10
u/BlakeEleven 16h ago
Yeah OP. And I am honest with you by saying this, since I despise reddit but here I see a lot of people that have the freedom to say what they think, even if I don't like it, I won't have a psycho crash out episode like some libtard, or make a video about it with a cringe AI thumbnail like some kind of far right, conservative schmuck "that is here to guide and save you from the freaks". I despise both sides equally, since both of them judged me harshly for different things. I am either chud since I love me some booba and vegana that are not created because of my toxic masculinity, or I am some kind of misguided gay/incel/femboy/whatevertheyhate because I love to read Berserk and I am not a fan of [insert comic book name] or some gay ass MCU shit and worst of all - had fun playing Pragmata.
11
u/Sitri_eu 15h ago edited 15h ago
That's why mods crack down on anything that could even remotely put this sub in danger.
Overzealous? Sure. Necessary? Unfortunately yes.
There are more than just a couple of knifes pointed at this sub that would go off the very second a single person steps out of line.
7
u/Desperate_Put_4568 12h ago
When every reddit sub is "consume product, don't question", "orange man hurt my fefes" or "you're a racist for noticing", this place certainly feels like a nice change of pace. How can reddit possibly claim to rage against the machine when they agree with 99% of the corporate viewpoints? They are the machine.
8
u/alkevarsky 10h ago
Yep, most of Reddit is nuts. I was banned from a Medical Doctor sub, a sub for supposedly evidence- and data-driven individuals, for linking CDC statistics. The stats were racist, apparently.
7
13
u/Brainscroll 17h ago
Yeah it's one of the only places you can say what you want.
23
u/jojojajo12 17h ago
Man, there is a topic that is banned in this sub, you can't even name it.
5
u/Brainscroll 14h ago
Still better than almost every other subreddit.
4
u/ThatDamnRocketRacoon 14h ago
Yes it is. People get pissed at the mods here sometimes and there's been times when they get heavy handed about subjects for no good reason. That said, I've always defended a lot of their actions. We survived a time where subs were getting banned left and right for "wrong think" and they kept this place alive by being very strict with some rules. They were right to do it. I'll always give them a little leeway.
4
u/MidnightFrost444 11h ago
That's more the fault of Reddit than of KIA itself, though. I've had a conversation or two about the banned topic here. As long as you're careful to not say the wrong words and trip the censors, it's fine.
It's bullshit that that's necessary at all, though.
3
u/PM_ME_AWESOME_SONGS 12h ago
If it's what I'm thinking about, this is Reddit as a whole. Every time it comes up in the Catholicism sub, there's an automatic warning about it.
2
u/jojojajo12 12h ago
No, you can talk freely about that topic in many other subs, like CriticalDrinker.
1
u/East-Session-6475 12h ago
This is absolutely messed up. How have they achieved this godlike status that is beyond any criticism?
6
u/slipknotbg 17h ago
Mostly but not entirely. I don't think such place exist on modern internet.
7
u/Brainscroll 17h ago
That's true. X is the closest.
5
u/ThatDamnRocketRacoon 14h ago
X is still the wild west with what you can say, but maybe the most constraining algorithm of any site. You go a couple of days without responding to a subject you like to comment on something else and your feed completely changes.
2
u/AmazingAngle8530 13h ago
And that happens even outside of subjects where Elon is putting his thumb on the scale. If it is one of those subjects... try responding to anything in UK news or politics without your feed being 80% Rupert Lowe.

u/PenileNotPenal 9h ago
Thank you to whoever created it.
That would be u/david-me. And unless he's using an alt, he won't be getting your message because:
This account has been suspended
How long it's been like that, I don't know.
2
u/Super-Implement9444 9h ago
It's actually like an alien world on some subs, I stopped going on the a long time ago so when I accidentally stumble upon them I forget these people actually exist lmao. You never see any of them irl.
2
u/Weigh13 15h ago
They exist here as well. I was permabanned without warning the other day from here and no mod would even tell me why. It took a couple days for someone to look into it and then I was just given a warning. They still never told me what comment was the problem only that I was participating in "idpol" talk. So, no this sub isn't immune to reddit bullshit.
5
u/KK-Chocobo 14h ago
Im permanently banned from asmongold sub. An admin banned me on a post I made 10 months ago. And since the post is removed and it doesnt even see it, I couldnt even argue.
After spending some time thinking hard. It was some woman absolutely raging out at an airport, wrecking the spot.
I remember saying something along the lines of 'behave like an animal, then they should be in cages'. I didnt even say anything about race but I assume the woman in the video being non-white had something to do with the ban.
This site is done. I finally learned and got used to twitters format and the difference is day and night.
1
u/Interesting-Math9962 12h ago
I was auto banned for regarded by Reddit automo and thus banned there too
3
u/Weigh13 15h ago
Full interaction with the mods. Maybe I should make a full post about this: https://imgur.com/a/1VVeCUx
1
u/Enough-Lead48 17h ago
Blocking saferbot should help with those autobans to my understanding. There are a few subs that are good as well. They are for gooner gachas or smaller games that are too small to have politics ruin the sub.
1
u/Succubia 13h ago
Because it's not filled to the brim of leftists. And if there's some, they are probably the last of a dying breed... moderates
1
u/DeanAaah 13h ago
Not many subreddit's are anymore. R/nonpolitical twitter is usable, but not many others I can think of... Old reddit used to be so fun.
1
u/BLAZERLIKESSODA 6h ago
What is KIA? All I see is what looks like a subreddit for the Kia car brand.
1
u/fishgus 7h ago
Reddit is a Liberal turf cesspool. If you have opposing views they don’t want you to be here, especially if it’s a Mod. This isn’t a site for free speech unfortunately. You don’t have to be a Republican or have right leaning views either, most times if you disagree with the majority in the slightest you will get name called and harassed.
1
u/REM777 1h ago
Not sure who down-voted you, but you are not wrong. Every sub-reedit I've seen (especially when not logged in) is extremely (1) Anti-American, (2) Anti-Moderate, Conservative (3) Anti-Debate if you disagree (4) Anti-Facts (5) Anti-Capitalism, pro-commie/socialist. Not all /r/ are echo chambers, but the majority are. There are some good people out there, but far and few between. They will call you a "Bigot", "Racist", "Fascist" or any other slur that they use to justify their hate against you.

Don't know... There's a few bad apples here too.
I generally think that Reddit is full of brokies... And that also filters into conversations about game ownership and subscriptions.
I don't agree with GamePass as a whole... But the brokies absolutely swear by it...
Brokies also think that they are holier than thou (because how else are they going to feel "special"? - ie wokies)... And considering that brokies never put their money where their mouths are... Means that brokies have essentially ruined gaming.
It's greed essentially... Greedy entitled brokies... Who don't contribute anything... And who expect the world for free... And Bluesky is full of them.
I expect a few dozen non-commenters to downvote my comment / reply... Or come out with some sarcastic quips... Because the brokies don't have a coherent and logical argument that can act as a valid rebuttal... Despite them clutching their pearls and saying that I'm hurting their feelings... Because it would mean having to stare at themselves in the mirror.
FACTS!

Actually broke people pirate everything and Bluesky users and liberals in general are more often than not affluent nepo babies so it's probably not that black and white. Delusional communists come from all walks of life.

As dumb as YouTube comments can be sometimes… you see a lot more of this kind of “sanity” in several YouTube spaces, regarding anti-censorship and anti-PC takes. And in life in general. It’s only on Reddit where such opinions are rare.
