A Russian drone strike on an office building in Kyiv killed at least four people and injured seven others, including a child, on Sept. 25.

“Everything that is part of ordinary life is simply a target for Russia,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said, calling for stronger sanctions and other measures to impose concrete consequences on Moscow.

The strike came amid waves of Russian drone attacks on the capital that began early in the morning and continued throughout the day.

Advice for working in Ukraine as a Lawyer for NGO

Hello everybody! This month I had the opportunity to visit Ukraine (Lviv) and fell in love with the country. I don't know how to explain the feeling, strange because I'm not from ukrainian heritage (my grandparents were from Italy). Now I'm back in Argentina but I was thinking of working in Ukraine for a NGO where my expertise could be useful. Has anyone worked there doing civilian relief work? I'm a lawyer graduated in the University of Buenos Aires Argentina, with 8 years of experience in contract law and grant agreements. Or worked for a NGO being a lawyer from another country? I know it sounds strange, leaving a peaceful place and work during a war, but I would like to help this country with my expertise. I know that there are several job offers in some renowed sites like ReliefWeb, UNjobs, Impactpool, UN Talent or Devex. Does anybody had experienced such offers? I'm fluent in English though I'm still learning Ukrainian. I have work here, but it's like I feel isn't doing anything useful for humanity. Any insight positive or negative would be appreciated. Thanks!

German Food/Drink In Kyiv

Pretty self explanatory, I live in Leipzig and am In Ukraine for various reasons and want to take my Ukrainian partner and some friends to a place with German food and drinks. I could ask google but I felt like asking locals if they know anything any more niche than a standard Bräuhaus

I live in the east and most likely what they have here will be Bavarian style. Just a throwaway question
Дякую 🙏

Idk how to start this. I've been here almost 2ish weeks now as I volunteer. I met a woman and... in this short amount of time have developed extremely deep feelings. Has this happened before for anyone here? Im anxious at the thought of what things will be like when I leave.

Visiting Kyiv next weekend as a journalist

Hi All,

I'm an independent journalist and some friends and I will be visiting Kyiv next week for about 3-4 days. We want to be upfront: we know we're visitors who get to leave, and we're conscious of the difference between reporting on daily life here and treating it as a backdrop for content. Our aim is to give people abroad a more accurate picture of what daily life is actually like right now - shelters, alert apps, how people adapt - rather than the flattened version that usually makes the news. We are looking to stay at one of the hotels in the city centre near a metro station/shelter and will take every precaution with the Telegram and alert apps. We are travelling to Kyiv from Lviv, getting the train from Prague first. We've been keeping track of the situation for about a month now and would be very grateful for you to answer our questions.

  1. How are things now compared to the escalations about two weeks ago?
  2. Which areas should we avoid? Is the centre really mostly safe? Should we stay in the centre for maximum safety?
  3. Any recent changes to curfew times or checkpoints we should know about?
  4. Is it currently sensible to travel between Lviv and Kyiv by train, or has anything changed on that route recently? Would by bus be safer?
  5. Is there anything people specifically get tired of foreign journalists asking or filming — a cliché shot or question that's become a sore point?
  6. Is filming in metro stations (would just be of ourselves walking around not of others) currently allowed?
  7. Are there stories or aspects of daily life that locals feel are under-covered by foreign media, that you should prioritise over the obvious shelter/alert footage?

Thank you very much for your time all, look forward to reading your replies.

Thinking of staying over the winter, what should I know?

Вітаю 👋

I'm weighing up renting an apartment in central Kyiv from December into the new year. I'm a foreigner but I have served seven months in the ZSU including four months in Donbass, so I am used to living rough. I understand this winter is going to be particularly brutal with the interceptor shortage. I really just want to experience the city while I still can (I've never visited, only passed through) and meet some new friends.

Thanks!

Few questions about living and visiting Kiev

edit: Sorry, Kyiv not Kiev

  1. How often do you meet with some energy crisis, black outs etc. and how do people used to deal with that? How serious they are?
  2. How often do you meet with some russian strikes and drone attacks? How big % of them are actually a thread to you and how much are less dangerous ones
  3. How do you know about incoming attacks, how much time ahead and how can turists also get informed and link with the system?

Thanks for all the answers.

Visiting Kyiv after 10 years

I’m 25f and I’m flying to Ukraine with my mom for family business following a death of a family member.
I’m very well aware of the situation ofc, but since I don’t have any friends from Kyiv I’d still like to get some insight on how bad is the situation. I really want to make my mom’s trip as good as I can, taking her to nice restaurants, or mall shopping.
(I also really wanna find a good tattoo studio if anyone know something let me know tysm)
Anyway, we are not easily startled or overwhelmed by the fact that this trip is probably ain’t gonna be like a trip to Western Europe.

Here’s a second question for foreigners who are bored in Kyiv and want to try some niche spots—so here goes...

I already asked the first question myself—I was curious to hear everyone’s thoughts, so it’ll be interesting to read the responses here, too:

In your opinion, what’s the best shawarma and where can you find it? Or, if it’s a non-chain fast-food spot, which one and what dish?

Visiting Kiev for a wedding

I'll be driving to Kiev from Warsaw, I've downloaded the Alert app but I'm not sure which region I'll be staying at yet. Any tips on the best region? And how is it in general lately? I've seen news articles coming by of the air raid sirens being on over 14-15 hours a day sometimes, is that common? Not sure what to expect.

Sorry guys, Kyiv*
