Discussion Why do people care?
Simple statement ik Balmer is in the wrong and he essentially created the hole the clippers are in now, BUT I really don’t see the point in shitting on him at least he tried to create a winning team. Hating rich people for the sake of being rich is dumb, he wanted to create a team that would win a championship it backfired SO WHAT? We’re the clippers were always ass I got no beef with someone trying to smidge his way around certain rules for the idea of winning.

Because doing that leads to the likely outcome of eventually being caught, which puts the team in a worse situation moving forward

"Idc” isn't an argument on why its okay an owner knowingly put the teams future in jeopardy. It just means you don't have principles.

“Principals” are dumb when your aim as a owner is to create a winning team. Under the table deals happen all the time, he just got caught

Any one of the following reasons:
1. Reddit, by default, hates rich people and Ballmer is uber-rich. Same on every other sub, niche topic or broad topic. I’m with you on this. The upvoted voices of rich-haters on Reddit is borderline suspicious and feels manufactured.
2. Sports fans are fickle. Especially American sports fans in big markets.
3. The fallout has basically killed our 10-year future.
4. A lot of trolls on this sub.
5. Reddit is particularly prone to extreme, black-white responses from people.
6. The PG trade was already bad and this made it worse.
My specific beef: Lawrence Frank might be the best GM in the NBA. Look at all his other non-Kawhi/PG moves. I think Ballmer basically forced him to work around this handicap, and now he’s suspended for 6 months.

Just playing devils advocate, but how is this situation with our draft picks and future any different than what we have been dealing with the last 8 years? Aside from the tarnished rep.

The PG trade was a “calculated bet” within the rules. We’ve known that it was a bad trade for like 3-4 years.
The background behind it made it even worse.

I totally get that the PG trade was absolutely brutal. And screwed us from the start. Ballmer not only circumventing for Kawhi but then also giving in to the trade demand was the start.
I was just curious as to why you think the next 10 years of our future is screwed because of a draft situation that is the exact same if not better than before. Instead of OKC swaps every other year we have the Raptors picks in 31 and 33.

It’s a good point. I think it’s all just one big clusterfuck that traces upward to signing Kawhi. That’s why it hurts even more now with the sanctions.

Also, we followed the Lakers playbook, but 1) our Lebron was always injured, including in key moments, 2) our Lebron demanded a player who wasn’t a complimentary piece like AD, and 3) our BI/Randle ended up being an MVP and lots of extremely valuable picks

I totally agree with you statement though, but when I see all other doomers talking about our future, it's like damn did they not see what we have dealt with already?
Yeah it sucks all around but I'm just glad to have Kawhi far away so we can slowly air out the stench and try to move forward.
As for Ballmer and Co, I am just Apathetic and don't know if they will ever gain my trust back personally.

Lmao. So since the past was so bad who cares that our future is? Nah fuck that. I’m pissed. We were set up great. Now we lost another 5 years of picks. Can’t wait till we are contending in 2036

Which part of me saying it sucks translates into your brain as who cares?

You literally qualified it by saying “have you not seen what we already dealt with” like what we are dealing with right now isn’t the worst thing that’s happened.

Best gm in the league is fucking insane lmao. Like genuinely unhinged

Look up his body of work. Aside from Kawhi PG acquisitions (which you can squarely put on Ballmer) and tell me 2 bad moves he’s made…
2
u/AshenSacrifice Buffalo Braves 3d ago
His body of work is one conference finals appearance in 10 seasons lmao.
Acquiring Chris last season was bad. Getting Bradley Beal was horrible, letting Moussa walk was bad. Trading a first round pick and a pick swap for harden was terrible. Extending Kawhi 3 more seasons was horrendous. So much mismanagement of assets

Letting Moussa Diabate walk then trying to sell us on Mo Bamba and Kai Jones, both released before the all star break. John Wall over Hartenstein. Pick swap moved us further down the draft just for a couple of months of Eric Gordon.
Signing CP3 when Ty Lue wanted nothing to do with him whatsoever. The entire Bradley Beal situation. I didn't like the Rajon Rondo move. We can keep going.

He was infatuated with a con man and gutted the franchise for him, kicked SGA to the curb, and then got caught paying Kawhi under the table. All the criticism is highly justified.

"Hating rich people for the sake of being rich is dumb" Nah
1
u/MassiveMango37 Jordan Miller 2d ago
Why? Live with what you have and deal with it. I understand if he was genuinely bad but all he did was try set us forward
1
u/ExpensivePattern981 2d ago
I am living with what I have and dealing with it, while also recognizing that every rich person is evil.
1
u/MassiveMango37 Jordan Miller 2d ago
Wild that your deciding that every person who has accumulated wealth is evil
1
u/ExpensivePattern981 2d ago
That level of greed is undeniably evil :)

u/MassiveMango37 Jordan Miller 2d ago
I’d be pretty stoaked if I became a millionaire overnight am I evil? :)

He never had the fans or repercussions in mind. Just his own personal agenda and gain. Get off his nuts and be mad at the guy cuz we sure are

u/MassiveMango37 Jordan Miller 2d ago
I’m not “on his nuts” not defending him but the way you guys are angry at him you’d think he bombed a hospital

I care because I’m a fan who spends my time and money on the team. I invest in the team. And all the while Ballmer set us back instead of moving us forward. We are worse off than we were with Sterling. Only silver lining is we are still a destination for players.
But if you are asking why people care it’s because he bet the house and lost. He’s not just playing with his money when it impacts the fans. His wallet will be fine but our watching experience gets worse.
It doesn’t feel good to be the laughing stock of the NBA. Probably the biggest laughing stock of all professional sports.
