I 100% agree with what you are saying. I am also one of those people that believes we can’t say how we would act in a situation unless we have been in that situation. I would love to say based on my morals that I would never do what this man has done, but I also know that group think is a very real concept. It’s easy to judge but I’m not sure that we should. Understanding allows us to never do this type of thing again, condemnation makes sure that we will.

Nah, I'm going to fully judge the assholes who took part in the rape, murder, and pillaging of an entire village of unarmed civilians. You can choose to excuse/ justify their behaviour, but I will not.

I don't think there's a greater agony than realizing that something horrible happened to you and your loved ones for no valid reason.
Car accidents happen, people get sick. These are horrible but we understand them with time.
These people were killed at the whims of people she'll never speak to, sent to her home by other people she'll never speak to, based on ideological nonsense that she'll never understand.
From her perspective strangers killed her family because they just fucking felt like it. She's right

My grandfather was drafted into Vietnam. He has a Purple Heart. He was a marine sniper and was shot through his scope (into his shoulder) during a fire fight which is displayed in a case with his medal. Ngl, without context it’s pretty cool to see. Now it just makes me sad.
He has NEVER talked about his experience outside of saying he saw the worst of humanity. I remember more than once staying overnight at my grandparents house with him having night terrors, screaming and crying.
So many young men went out to do what they thought was right for their country and for those in Vietnam but were lied to and came back never the same yet these assholes act like they have honor. They’re the ones that make rest of us ashamed.
