Chapter 1196- feelings? Spoiler

Hello, Everyone. I am wondering how y'all feel about 1196. Did it improve your impression about how Kamabaka Queendom was written? Did you like the theme of self-love, how it was tied to defense, and how it was seen as a necessary condition to love others? Did you like how it was the Okamas and Ivankov (the fucking QUEEN) who taught this lesson? I am not part of the LGBTQ community but I know it must be hard to persist as yourself when a lot of the world just wants to deny your existence. So learning to love yourself must also mean resisting such a world.

Tbh I saw a lot of this chapter as criticism of Japanese masculinity and more explicitly the aspect of it that is valuing self-sacrifice. It also dealt with the idea of toxic masculinity. I thought it was a great message especially as a queer woman.

it took the Okamas of the Kamabaka Queendom Isle (who have always been sour stereotypes imo, not meaning to bash I just don’t like their designs being i am a trans nonbinary person and they feel pretty offensive to me) and made them much more interesting and enjoyable as characters, still not perfect but any fleshing out is nice, and i’m really glad Sanji has remembered some of his time there and that it’s given him amazing character development, the self love angle is perfect and very meaningful to me as a queer person, love loved it!! Ivankov remains one of my fave non-Straw Hat characters, Sanji remains one of my favorite Straw Hats, and yeah, i loved it!

It was beautiful and perfect. I loved the message of self-love. I feel like it really put some respect on the okamas when they look so exaggerated.

Its like, this is a kingdom for people who simply couldn't fit in anywhere else. where they learn to love themselves, as they are, more than anything. And that self love becomes great power.

I especially appreciated such a heartfelt message with Ivankov following Tim Curry's passing. Rest in Peace 🙏
