Discussion السلام عليكم

To make a long story short, university starts in one month. I am currently torn about what to major in. I want to study English—specifically Applied Linguistics—and pursue an academic path involving a master’s degree and certifications like CELTA and DELTA; I already have two years of experience teaching English in my home country, and I am 18 years old. However, my family wants me to major in Accounting instead, arguing that it offers a clear career path, makes finding a job easier, and has low unemployment rates. Should I follow my academic dream, study languages, and take a chance, or should I opt for the secure path of Accounting?

My friend is MD but she found an opportunity in English teaching and she took it, she did celta and she is now working in translation, you still can follow your dream and study accounting as a backup plan

AT 18 having 2 years of teaching experience already puts you in a good position. I wouldn't choose a degree based only on job security. Accounting may offer a clearer path, but thta doesn't necessary mean it's the right one for you. My advice would be to research the opportunities in both fields, speak to professionals and understand in terms of money and then decide
