Technical Question Just updated to Bazzite 44 on Ally

And holy fck

Sorry for the late post, I know Bazzite 44 has been out awhile.

Life happened and I haven’t had a chance to touch my Ally for awhile.

I decided to turn on my Ally and check on somethings and accidentally updated from 43 to 44 and holy fck I don’t get it.

I’m aware HDD is gone, before I lose my mind would someone be able to please provide some answers to the below?

My keyboard and mouse no longer work in desktop mode, new clue how to get it back up and running.

NO clue how to switch the mouse from gaming to desktop mode anymore, long press just vibrates twice and that’s it.

No clue how to find my Bluetooth settings in gaming mode

It’s just a giant headache, I was working on something in desktop mode and rebooted now I can’t even get to where I wanted to be since my keyboard and mouse no longer work.

Sorry for the rant, I’d greatly appreciate if someone could provide me some answers and tips on how to navigate Bazzite 44

Bazzite is completely obsolete now on handhelds. Switched to cachyos handheld.

Does switching to cachyos mean that it can go straight to steam Big Screen like Bazzite? I assume it doesn't run all the desktop processes like steam os and bazzite?

Look for Anatase , it's basically bazzite if it 43 continued to be updated. You can rebase you device and return to normal life.

CachyOS has a handheld edition just like bazzite. It’s arch based as is steamos.

I wouldn't go that far. 44 is a big change and needs some time to fill up features lost in HHD.

While thats going on switch to 43. Or other distro.

Why wouldn't you? What makes it worthwile what distros like SteamOS don't have, for example?

Bazzite 43 vs any other distro out of box experience is not a competition at all. Bazzite wins by far.

44 takes out HHD and to fill that space and make it same out of box experience, we need to wait for sometime.

No other distro provides same out of box experience as 43 even today. Antase is more like a fork of bazzite 43 so I am not counting it as copetition.

Antase is still an option if you want similar out of the box experience.

Do I count this as atm 44 is obsolete? I mean, they went input plumber. Like anyone else.

They are basically SteamOS on Fedora. Yeah okay, cool, but... Where is the journey going? What can they do on a handheld? Its 95% the same.

And when SteamOS is able to run Nvidia on Desktops it will be obsolete even there.

People behind steam os and bazzite are different. There goals are not exactly same. Even though they share similar solutions, their overall output is different.

Still there are many devices that wont work with just steamos which work with bazzite

I use cachyOS handheld edition one. Runs quite well for me I’d say. Some says it gives u better performance because of cachyOS’s own proton. But idk I’m busy nowadays. I’d be glad if someone made a dedicated video about it

Bazzite 44 is just real pain. For my Ally I went to 43 and for my legion go 2 i went back to windows.

I had to rollback to 43 because 44 broke HDMI out and audio on my Ally X.

I rolled back to 43 within 2-3 days

Could you please provide the easiest way to do that? Someone suggested deleting the partition 🤦‍♂️

you should rebase to Anatse. it'll keep getting updates and keeps HHD. i had stability issues in Bazzite 44's gamescope session, but they're non-existent in Anatse.

Ive heard mixed things about Anatase. What has your experience been like so far? I went back to Bazzite 43 because 44 had similar issues as OP described, and im happy there for now but dont wanna stay on a distro that isn't getting updates. Im traveling with my Ally currently and just want it to work so dont wanna mess with Anatase just yet. Was considering trying Steam OS again since ive heard its better than it was last year when I tried it.

So far, it's great. I am on the Ally X. Unlike SteamOS, you can rebase to Anatse, so you won't lose data (if I recall correctly). In terms of day-to-day stability with Steam and emulation, it's been the best. In Bazzite and CachyOS, I'd get Steam crashing when exiting a game 10ish% of the time. It was very annoying and I could never find the root cause. It hasn't happened to me once this week using Anatse so for that alone, I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks for the response. I didnt know you could rebase from Bazzite to Anatase. That alone makes it worth a shot.

It wasn't that serious or complicated. Check out this thread:

Was able to Rollback to 43 thanks to your post, it was so simple, thanks so much

Glad I could help! Not sure what I'll do once 43 isn't available. I've heard the creator of HHD made his own distro. May need to check it out. It's called Anatase if you're curious

Funny I’m literally watching a video about it now actually lol trying to see if it’s worth it to switch over now or stick with 43 a bit until it matures a little

I know this isn't too helpful, but I switched to steam os official. Problem solved ! I had some mouse issues myself, and also audio issues as well with bazzite. None of these have occured on official steam os, even after multiple updates

Thank you! Am I able to DualBoot with SteamOS?

Yes. It's possible. Here's a good YouTube tutorial Dual Boot SteamOS without reinstalling windows
