Gear - Tech Issue Timecode on Iphone 17 pro max

Hey guys! I'm using 2 cameras for my shoots and the deity tc1's and have been wanting to use the iphone 17 pro max as c cam or a backup cam, problem is i cant figure out how to connect my tc1 to it, i've tried a 3.5mm to usb c adapter and no luck. Has anyone tried to do something similar?

Last time I checked the iPhone doesn’t read LTC. A tentacle via Bluetooth into the Blackmagic camera App is the only option I’ve used successfully.

Same. Just did this last month successfully!

This is great to know as I am not currently in the Tentacle TC ecosystem. The Track E recorder interests me for a failsafe outboard mix redundant recorder with TC stamp that I start at beginning of day and stop at end of day though. With that I could use with Blackmagic camera iOS app syncing.

Mavis app works with Ultrasync Blue via Bluetooth, BlackMagic app and REC app work with Tentacle via BT. You can also buy a BlackMagic ProDock and then use any timecode generator with a TRS=>BNC cable

Just to add to this. From my testing, a single Tentacle can TC sync at least 3 iPhones running the Blackmagic camera app if all of the iPhones are all close enough to Tentacle.

Blackmagic App is the only way IIRC

As a slight aside; I believe that the iPhone17-Pro can receive MidiTimeCode (MTC) via the USB connection, from a discussion on Ambient where they mentioned the iPhone. At the 23:00 mark...

I have my own Open-Source project using a RP2040 microcontroller (PicoTimecode), which outputs MTC and I'd be really interested in here if it works with the iPhone. My device can also bridge Audio LTC into MTC.

I expect to push out a new release later this week... including some MTC improvements.

Blackmagic App is free and has timecode sync via Bluetooth (tentacle sync boxes work great). Also has lots of other great features that the DoP may like to have use of.

hmm. I haven't looked into it but does anyone know if BETSO TCX-2+ timecode transceiver and generator boxes will work with iPhone & Blackmagic App ? It's in 902 - 928 MHz (USA/Canada) Frequency range not 2.4Ghz bluetooth transmission looks like no.

They don’t work together. The betso doesn’t do Bluetooth, which is what the app needs.

Deity c21 3.5mm to USB-C is designed specifically for this purpose. It provides 2 channels of audio - one channel is LTC (timecode) and the other is scratch audio from the mic on the TC-1.

You can use this with anything that records video with audio. You then will have to use something to convert audio to timecode meta data once you get the video to you computer before you can sync with anything.

Black Magic app _might_ decode LTC into metadata in real time but I’m not certain of that.

iPhone 17 accepts only MIDI Timecode via USB. Tentacle SyncE 2 and Lockit Boxes from Ambient output Midi Timecode through the usb port https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fax8ISkQ6k
